When I first started the Bluick for 2024, I had noticed that the trunk light had burned out. ‪@lexmarks567‬ was kind enough to send me a 2-pack of #89 bulbs for it. This day, I needed to replace the bulb. I thought I was going to have to disconnect the battery, reason being was the old bulb's glass envelope had separated from the base, and I did not want any potential issues of the two wires shorting out. The reason for that is that this car uses cylindrical glass fuses. They are still available, but not easy to replace; better to be safe than sorry.
As it turns out, none of that was necessary. The trunk light's fixture, in GM's infinite cheapness, was simply screwed into the trunk lid, providing the ground connection for the bulb, and they just ran an always-hot positive wire to the bulb. So, disconnecting was as easy as simply removing the one screw that the fixture is mounted with. (Chances are very good, that part was manufactured for at least 20 more years since this car was new, and used on hundreds of GM models). With the fixture dismounted, everything was safe, and I was able to replace the bulb no problem.
But I sort of did myself in. Turns out I had to replace some stickers on the sindshield and that meant I would have the door open for a while. I want to prevent any sort of unnecessary drain on the battery. Only way to do that would be to disconnect the battery, but I decided against it, and that I'd just start it up again and let it recharge that way.
Turns out that wasn't a great idea. It started and ran, and ran for a while, then stalled out. Restarted and ran for a second and died again.
Will it restart? Watch and find out!

Hey Jay I am think I found your miss when you did the first slow motion start at 10:03 mark you can see the spark coming from your spark plug wires it looks like it even travel down to the coil I think you have a bad set of wires I thought I was seeing things but it's there!

I see it. Looks like that wire is arcing to the intake. Good eye!

I see exactly what you mean. I'm not 100% convinced that's spark, because it goes away once the engine is running. That ought to be sparking the entire time the engine is running as those points open and close and the distributor comes around. I would not at all be surprised to learn that that was simply something stuck to it with like a spider web type material. Can't explain it.
The test for sure would be to do it at night because then I could definitely see the spark. But the thing that's throwing me is those are NEW wires, I had replaced them a few years ago and let's be realistic, they only have a few hours on them.
Almost guaranteed there's a decent vacuum leak from the carbinator where it mounts up. That will make it run like crap. Not to mention the choke being off.

I'll look in the dark and see if I see anything. I've gotten plenty of shocks in my life, don't need any more!

I was looking at incandescent 89 bulbs just now and I noticed that they are 13 volt 7.3 watts so it will even dimmer at 12 volts. Don't know if it's always been 13 volts or if that's how they get around the incandescent ban. You want incandescents I'll get you incandescents

No, it doesn't really matter, it works and that's what counts. 13 volts I'd imagine is the nominal voltage; being 12 with engine off and 14 with engine on. That's my best guess. No idea if it's always been that way but it sure sounds logical to me.
