So glad we could provide some help in the washer department!! It’s looking so good!
For sure! I thought it was super simple and clever! Much better then just a regular washer. Those would have totally ripped out.
So glad we already have ours. Great stuff guys✌🏼
Super jealous. I hope Our next bus build will have them already.
Lucky dawgs 😜
Nicely done Caleb!
Thanks guys!!
Good job! Like the washers with flat iron stock! Are y'all planning on going anywhere that freezes? If so, a bit of insulation on that gray water tank would help! We're just saying that from the Canadian Goose perspective! HONK!

Thanks! Yeah I thought the idea was pretty clever when I first saw it! We don't plan on being anywhere that cold so it wasn't a huge concern. To combat the freezing we plan on getting a little immersion heater if it gets that cold.
@@BackroadPurpose Ohh! Good idea!
So our 3500 predator generator should fit under that size of compartment. Thanks for the info
Love they story line in the episode! Pumped to see what next episode!
Thank you!! When I was editing I was like "Does this even make sense...?" lol
Backroad Purpose I get in the same mode so I know exactly what you mean ! I was like that with my last episode I was like “ nope I’m not going to drop it , I hate it ... “ 😂 then I let my wife view it and she said it’s by best one yet lol
Hahaha! Gotta love the wives. They sure know what to say. and idk how they do it but they're almost always right too. lol. Ill have to check out the video!!
Backroad Purpose for sure and thank you !!
So helpful bro. Thanks!
Extra storage space will be good nice work are you going to do a roof raise ?
We did not do a roof raise. We're short people
@@BackroadPurpose alright me also
I like what you did.
Thanks for sharing.
I was thinking about using threaded rods to support strut channel under the boxes.
But I'm thinking about your design.
I'm just concerned that the few bolts thru the L-channel frame wont be enough to keep the boxes in place.
How did you convince yourself that they wont fail?
The grey tank is going to be super heavy.
Thanks.
I actually had the same concerns at first before building it. I just did some reading about iron strength and weight ratings per load. Each bolt that I used could hold 550lbs. I ended up using 12 on the big box. So 800lbs in this box is no issue.
Your welder, where can I get one that small? Thanks Craig.
Harbor freight! 120v unit.
Hello please can you let me know how you cover the new storage? There is another video?
hey! we used 18ga sheet metal to cover it. I just posted a tour video where I showcase those boxes!ua-cam.com/video/I6EggQ7_fUs/v-deo.html
I want to do this so bad but this looks like so much work 😭
It is but it's also super useful.
so what I have learned this year is that the frame (chassis) and the bus frame (floor) shift at different rates. You should attach things either to the floor, or the chassis, but not both.
What do you mean shift at different rates?
@@BackroadPurpose words are hard sometimes. Flex is the better word. The bus flexes differently than the chassis. It's pretty much just sitting on top of it. When you attach something to both the chassis and the floor, you are changing the way it flexes while traveling. You can stress it and cause cracks where it shouldn't be stressed. Make sense?
Good point. I seem to remember seeing a schoolbus safety video where the body of the bus is made to flex/slide on the chassis in case of an accident, safety reasons, or something like that. Like what you did with this, I’m about to do the same, but with 100 gallon grey water tank. Have you had any issues with just bolting to the subfloor? Isn’t that just sheet metal vs bolting to the chassis?
I have to build the exact same thing for my bus. Have you seen it done with Unistrut? someone mentioned that it might be a cheaper and quicker alternative
I have. I couldn't imagine it being cheaper. It was about $.70 per ft of angle iron.
@@BackroadPurpose WOW that is Cheap. Where did you buy it?
You have done a great job.Do you have any ideas on what you will use for doors.
Thank you! And I actually got some 16ga sheet metal for the doors. It was pretty cheap too, only $30.
@@BackroadPurpose You are always thinking, great job.Keep those videos coming
Why not just weld it to the bus vs using bolt?
awesome job. did you use 1 1/2 Angle Iron?
I did! Pretty happy with it as well
Just curious Caleb, are the compartments watertight? Nothing worse than getting caught on the highway in a rainstorm and the finding out the road spray off the tires has soaked the inside of the compartments. Sorry just playing the devil’s advocate. They look great and if enough bolts are good mores better.
I wouldn't call them water right because I couldn't close them up and fill them with water but they are waterproof enough that water will not get through. I also used polyurethane caulk in between the metal rails and wood to seal them up a bit more.
Goodo, just checking. I have a flat deck trailer with a drawer crossways under the deck for packing chains and stakes and stuff. I went to get wood in the fall with some slushy snow on a gravel road. When I opened the drawer it was not pretty or dry. I took out the drawer and haven’t put it back.
Thanks for the info, Caleb. We are still in demo mode. Not looking forward to the floors. I am glad I am not the only newbie welder. So nice having one, though. Storage is key. Keep up the good work, we look forward to more. Be safe, travel often, adventure always.
How's the skoolie?
Awesome!
Wait how did you do the doors?
At the time I hadn't figured it out. Sorry to leave you hanging but I did end up getting 16GA sheet metal and 3 2" hinges and just attached them at the top.
Are you sure you didn't study Engineering? Because some, if not all, of your philosophy, throughout your entire journey lies behind the same type of principles. Could also be chalked up to common sense lol.. In the end though, Enjoy watching your videos, your channel, your perspective..
Haha thank you! I haven't studied engineering. I just do what I think it best. Lol probably more on the common sense side of things. Thank you so much for watching and sharing! I really enjoy sharing these videos with you guys
Why does everyone do intros they suck! I have Acton to do I don't have all day!!!!
