No game that claims to be like it has ever come close to replicating the nearly endless replayability that came from spore, as each time you played you had a different canvas and tools to use based on your creature and the parts you got for it. I have always wanted to see a similar or duplicate system made that could be used in a more modern game; what you have made gives me hope that in the future a game may come to take the place of what spore tried to be.

Looking back at Spore, and also, this recreation of the UI, it's making me think of how useful a perfected version of this could aid 3D artists at blocking out basic creatures that they can use for 3D projects. I for one struggle at sculpting from scratch. So a tool like this would help with reducing the hassle. So if this program also supports exporting your creation into other 3D software for cleanup and final texturing, I can see it as a viable tool that lots of people would use.
So UA-cam finally put this in my recommended and im so glad it did, you give me much hope for a even Fan revival of Spore so long as EA doesnt screw with it

The creature creator in Spore is something so unique and rare to see that I thought it could only be product of a forgotten technology or some kind of black magic fuckery. Glad to see someone who is not only able to recreate it but also to explain the ideia behind it. Really amazing my friend!

Hi everyone! The announcement trailer for my game, CREATURE CREATOR, just released: ua-cam.com/video/FgXHPeQhEXo/v-deo.html Among other features, the game includes transformable body parts, procedural animations and *online multiplayer* 🎉
I really hope that game developers work together in this project and make it bigger and great with the help of 3D Artists and animators to make it better than the original Spore. I waited for Spore to be updated but it didn't. I hope that this dream come true starting from this project. I will be happy to donate to grow this project Thank you Daniel

Incredible Achievement! At times I also thought about replicating the Spore Creature Creator to some extend, in order to have a parametric creature building system to speed up the process. For me the most tricky part is the smooth-welding of the limb meshes with the body mesh, to make them look more like they have grown out of the body and get rid of the seams. Yet I haven't found an idea to solve this, which is not very complicated. One was about point clouds and remeshing on the fly. But converting an arbitrary shaped point cloud into a 'waterproof' mesh is far far beyond my knowledge, left aside doing it efficiently).

@@DanielLochner You're so nice, thanks. That looks like a prelude for really cool oeuvre game for any creator. This got me thinking. What if the Spore community had materials and tools for creating custom animations, body parts and mechanics, and the game had a simple enough code that it could be changed without breaking? Wouldn't we now have a dozen completely different games made from one?
@Zhanazar Thanks! 😊 That’s exactly what I’ve tried to create! The source code to the plugin and entire game will be made public the same time the game on Steam is released! In Spore you CAN do aysymmetry by holding alt or control. Also if you hold down left click on a color, you get access to a larger variety of values of that color. Spore had all kinds of small things like that to make it tick. Though, I can't stress enough how good the Galactic Adventures DLC level editor was. Easily one of the best DLCs ever made.

This is a really interesting project! I'm a modded Spore creator and from experience, if you could implement these features, your Spore would be superior to the OG: _255 parts limit: Spore stops animating at around 255 parts. _Transferrable part clusters across creations _Single metaball parts: Spore doesn't allow single metaballs to be added on the body, only separate mesh or clusters of them like limbs. _Alpha semi transparency: Spore is extremely bad when multiple semi transparent objects are seen through each other and cause rendering issue. _Jiggle: spines, limbs and some body parts in spore can jiggle and if they stacked on top of each other like s chain, they'll behave like one. However, they have issue attaching the mesh to the bones if there are too many jiggle parts. _Attaching parts to a lower jaw that can move along with the lower jaw _Bone structures that aren't trees aka with loops
As some one that hasn't touch cpp too much or used unity ever this is super stressful looking :o but it looks great and I'm glad others care about spore, good vid!

The creature creator in Spore is something so unique and rare to see that I thought it could only be product of a forgotten technology or some kind of black magic fuckery. Glad to see someone who is not only able to recreate it but also to explain the ideia behind it. Really amazing my friend!
Thank you so much Eduardo! Was basically magic when it came out haha! I actually just released the official announcement trailer to the Steam game which includes (among other features) transformable body parts, procedural animations and online multiplayer! ua-cam.com/video/FgXHPeQhEXo/v-deo.html

Casually ran into this while looking through Unity devlogs (I suck with tutorials, devlogs seem to help me tho)
and good Aud.
I love this to bits, to think that it's actually got a Unity recreation is amazing.
Props to ya man, your channel gives awesome insights to working with Unity too. All the best with all your projects, and university!

Among other features, the game includes transformable body parts, procedural animations and *online multiplayer* 🎉
God, how did you help me !!!! I have already dug all of UA-cam, but found nothing !! You are the best !! ❤️❤️
This is something i wanna play, and i will play it :>
Haha! I saw your "Weird Unicorn" on the Discord server! :P
I really hope that game developers work together in this project and make it bigger and great with the help of 3D Artists and animators to make it better than the original Spore. I waited for Spore to be updated but it didn't.
I hope that this dream come true starting from this project.
I will be happy to donate to grow this project
Thank you Daniel

1 question. How did you make the avatar for your UA-cam channel? I would love to know! Also, I would love to see you continue making this game. Stay safe and don't skip classes kid ; )
How do you only have 7k subs? This put me through a huge nostalgic trip, you have defiantly earned my subscription. I wish I could do more.
Ahh thanks so much for the support! I really appreciate it! 😊
@@DanielLochner Anytime man! I wish i found you sooner...

Dude you are a genius! Thank you so much for putting this project into there world, there are more Spore fans than you might think ;)
I would love to see more work put into it and I'm especially interested in how would you go about creating a procedural movement system for the creatures.
Ahh thanks so much! Really glad you like it! Yes, adding the testing section (i.e. movement) and the ability to transform body parts is definitely on the TODO list! Just really busy with university at the moment, so I'm just happy I found the time to release something and make a video about it! Thanks again, I really appreciate the support! :)

@@DanielLochner looking forward to it!
PLEASE DO KEEP MAKING THIS, THIS IS ALL I'VE WANTED
New update coming soon! Check my latest UA-cam community post for more information! 😁

It's just awesome! I really liked how you implemented the editor from spore on the unity engine. I really hope that you will not abandon the project and will develop it further. Because your work is great! You should gather a team with the same developers, and create a spore 2. I wish you good luck in developing the game.
This looks extremely good omg, I am looking forward to any updates on this!

It’s also using lots of body parts that have been created by the community! I’ll make another devlog explaining the development of the game and all features for the creator.
I would definitely love to see more of this. Spore was such a fun game that I still occasionally revisit.

Woah, I never knew about those features! 😳 Definitely agree. Those small little details are what distinguish a good from a great game!
i love the physics of the body. one of my favorite thigns to do in the creature creator was to play around with the body.
I've been thinking about making a game inspired by spore, this tutorial will definitely help 😊
Awesome! Glad it could help! 😄 I’ll be releasing another update soon, so stay tuned! 🥳

@@DanielLochner HOLY SHIT!!!! DUDE I LOVE IT I WILL CHECK IT ASAP!!!
This is a really interesting project! I'm a modded Spore creator and from experience, if you could implement these features, your Spore would be superior to the OG:
_255 parts limit: Spore stops animating at around 255 parts.
_Transferrable part clusters across creations
_Single metaball parts: Spore doesn't allow single metaballs to be added on the body, only separate mesh or clusters of them like limbs.
_Attaching parts to a lower jaw that can move along with the lower jaw
_Bone structures that aren't trees aka with loops
Thanks for the great suggestions! :D
As some one that hasn't touch cpp too much or used unity ever this is super stressful looking :o
but it looks great and I'm glad others care about spore, good vid!

Finally some one who recreates a part of spore
i remember i wanted to do this once, and i found a bunch of the development diaries online where they talked about the inner workings of the game! i learnt a lot about metaballs that day, and i still remember one of the devs who worked on the automatic texture generation saying "if i made a texture like this, my boss would fire me. BUT if i made a texture like this in 3 milliseconds, i'd probably get a promotion"
Amazing work!!!
