I worked split shifts for about 5 months when I was a PSE. It wasn't too bad for me. Luckily, I lived only 15 minutes away from my office. If you are looking for a great job, get through the 1st 2 years. Don't expect any holidays or Sundays off, because you will be working on Amazon and 3rd party delivery service parcels. Your schedule will constantly change, it will get better once you become a full-time flex or full-time employee. The pay and benefits are great.
What's the pay like? I'm considering leaving my current job for the post office due to the overtime I've been told I could get. I get no overtime at my current job and I'm willing to give up my free weekends if it means more money to help my kids.
Thank you for the support and your very welcome.. But I am human. I May drop a few F bombs here and there if they get me vexed enough.😅 More to come and I wish you the best. Peace
When I was pse I did split shifts, had to work in offices over 60 miles away, Amazon Sundays etc. now that I’m converted to FTF Im still like a pse with guaranteed 40 hours but still have to work every Sunday by myself. One old timer retired and it’s past the time that management was supposed to post bid but they still haven’t because they are trying to get pse in place before they give me my bid. Union clerk won’t file grievance. It’s sad how they treating me.
I've been a clerk for 10 years.. I hated the splits.. my theory is, "if doing something a certain way makes sense, the #Postoffice will do the opposite"
Medium small sized offices are where it's at. 48 hours a week average. My life is a breeze. About to early convert next month. I haven't even done a year as a pse. All luck of the straws. Never did a split shift either.
As a career employee, i can tell you that the USPS does f**k with your personal life. It's hard in the beginning, but you need to grind it out because in the long run, it's worth it and it does get better for you. Just do what they ask and when you get the time in, you will get a better job position. No one has it easy in the beginning. I worked 35 years and retired in 2020. I lived there basically the first 3-5 years, but with time comes seniority and sooner or later you will get a bid job that you can live with. Hang in there.
AMEN!!!!!! I couldn't have said it any better... I truly hope you are enjoying retirement. Stay active and productive. Most importantly stay far way from this place.. Be blessed. Peace
What honey,,,I was sooo ANGRY, MISERABLE at that place. My god every morning I wanted to slit my wrist. Or wish I would have gotten runned over....I dipped (regular) and all that pension and tsp can be shoved up you know where...I will never allowed anyone to tell me I have to stay there due to being able to start over or It gets easier. .....anyone who stays there and hate it,, then ur a coward, straight up
Needed this today!!! I’m 4 months in and I was supposed to go back at 4pm today now I’m going back at 1 pm instead! I’m discouraged arguing with my husband about the schedule. Lorrrrdddd pray I make it!
Rico got your info from watching Jay H. I am retired Army and now waiting for my prints to come back so I can start as a PSE Sales and Distribution Associate at a small post office. Looking forward to Service to the Community and fellowship with my co-workers.
Can we see a video on your journey from the moment you decided you wanted to work for the post office to where you are now and would you recommend that company to work with?
Worked in a Plant for 2 years and now have been at a small station for 5 years. I only a have to do a split shift maybe 2 or 3 weeks a year luckily, but if you want to be guaranteed to never get a split shift as a clerk, work at a plant. No one ever does split shifts at the plants. I absolutely hate the Split shifts because it ruins your day. You aren't getting paid for the whole middle of your day. If I had to do more than the few weeks I do a year, I'd be gone. Probably back to the plant if possible or maybe somewhere else entirely because that's just straight up bullshit honestly.
So, I am a new PSE, start date is June 5th 2023. I was told that I will be doing split shifts six days a week. Not a problem for me, but, my question is. Hiring MGR. mentioned that there is no overtime given although you will be doing eight hour shifts six days a week. So my calculations put me at 48 hours total-weekly. So, how is that not overtime after 40 hours? Or is it because the USPS considers overtime after your 8th hour and that’s why you are getting split shifts so you don’t come into overtime because they keep you right at 8 hours daily before overtime kicks in at the 9th hour. I am so…. Confused can you explain. Thank you, Sheree
Absolutely.. when you first come in to the post office you have the opportunity to make a lot of money. As with everything it comes at a price. One of my friends purchased his first home as a PSE. The money is there. It's all on you.
Not at all....my mother is 56 and just recently got back in the post office. She is also working in a plant. I say go for it. Your as young as you feel.. just commit to the process. You'll be fine. Peace
I was just offered a career sales service distribution clerk would I most likely have split shifts ? I’m honestly not interested in split shifts I used to doing my hours at the plant and going home once I’m done.
@@terellewalden8929 well if your career absolutely not... splits are for newly hired pses. But who knows. This the post office that we're talking about. That might try and throw a monkey wrench in your gears🤷🏽😅.. I wish you the best. Peace
