    I have some clear ash boards, recently sharpened chisels, some newly found old stock hangers. Hmm, this will be a nice project to start this afternoon. Thanks James!

    I do like the blending of materials, so the metal hooks are my choice.

    A good sized bit of wood here to distribute the weight of the coats ! I'd probably make a wider one, so as to be able to use hangers, which I find lets the coats "air" well. Sensible of you to make the rack water-proof too, to stop it being marked from wet coats. Some good ideas with the hooks. My favourite hook is a "ball on a stalk" if you can imagine what I mean. The drawer handles could be prone to catching the coat if someone is in a hurry ? A simple but effective design that you're made there for us anyway ! Thank you ! "Hang around to watch more videos" did you say ? I'll get my coat ! HA HA !

    Awesome work James, I like them both, but those metal hooks definitely do a better job at holding bags! 😃👍🏻👊🏻

    Hanging about is one of my favourite pastimes. How did the olde time woodworkers make keyhole hanging hole thingies?

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo
      @WoodByWrightHowTo  Рік тому +1

      They would have been made with two pieces. Or just a hole drilled it and angle.

    I prefer the wooden pegs, but I think I would have angled them up slightly to prevent items from sliding off of them.

    Wood pegs great for coats, metal tee pulls perfect for shower or bath. Enjoy the way you always make carving look sooo simple!

    That was just “plane” “boring”. Lol. Great stuff and love the Celtic carving. Looks sooo good. I think I prefer the metal T contrast with the wood, but hard to go work with either.

    Personally I prefer the drawer pulls, but would like antiqued bronze in that pull better for a coat hook. To my eye the anti-bronze would contrast a bit better.

    I am getting the sense that you like white oak? Oil or Water based Poly? I'm guessing Oil because you are putting it on oil? Or does it matter with poly? Those are pretty interesting metal hooks though. But I know the wood pegs will work better. Thanks kindly.

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo
      @WoodByWrightHowTo  4 роки тому +1

      I dont know why you think I like White Oak? LOL! Thinned oil based poly. the water based poly is a lot more work and I find it to not be quite as durable. not to mention it does not dry any faster. but if you want the look of raw wood that is the way to go.

    Great video James. I've been trying to find a video of yours that you did on Braces (as in brace and bit, not something to hold up clothing) as I'd like to purchase one but have no idea where to start. I don't want to get a modern one that isn't - perhaps - as good as one off ebay or wherever.

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo
      @WoodByWrightHowTo  4 роки тому

      Usually the best suggestion with a brace is go to an antique store and pick up a dozen for a couple bucks each. Unfortunately there were so many of them made that it is very difficult to say this brand in this type has there really hard any standouts. Most people end up buying a couple dozen for a few bucks a piece for picking them up because there's usually a couple of them in the box as well. I know I have a box of probably 20 of them they just tend to collect every time.

      @@WoodByWrightHowTo Hmmm, I'm in the UK, I'm not sure how well that will translate over here (in terms of finding antique stores near me I mean). I'll take a look around and see if I can find anywhere that might have that sort of thing. Either that or I'll murder an elderly relative in the hope that they might have one stashed away that I can "inherit". Good to know that quantity is perhaps as likely to yield quality though, thanks for the advice (and the great videos)!
