@@the_bruce-z1w It was their best selling performance sedan and a hallmark car for Mercedes. Since you do not know this you have to be new to the car game and especially AMG. The C63 AMG was the main competitor to the BMW M3, RS5 Saloon and the Alpha Quad. It was their most renowned performance 4 door, up until the threw a 4 pot under the hood instead of a V8. The V8 was in the car dating back 2007 for the modern version. It's one of Merc's most important vehicles and anyone who somewhat familiar with performance saloons and coupes has been critical of Mercedes doing just this, except you. The GWagon is a niche vehicle for Merc and they sell a small number of them compared to the(former)C63 AMG.

The CLS Shooting brake W218 (X218 for the SB) first debuted the yacht inspired wooden flooring, it was absolutely immaculate and almost made me buy that car. Surprisingly it was available with all engine types.

The wood finish I first saw in the G-Class G63 AMG 6x6 rear load. In South Africa we got the Brabus version due to the RHD conversion, but I first saw the wooden lining in the 6 wheeler.

Apparently the G580 (electric) is even more capable off-road and has a better wading depth than all of them - and it has four electric motors, one at each wheel, instead of three diff locks.
Thanks for the video! If I were to spec one now, I would go for the offroad pro package. Then unselect the roofrack and ladder ( saves you 4 grand to!) and make it look like the G63 performance, but now it has the best of both worlds. I'd rather have all those modes added then a 0,1 faster 0-60 time. You can then still decide on whatever rimms you prefer (I'd probably keep the offraod ones) and if you want the offroad spare tire or just the regular.
With it now having Keyless entry its now going to be much more attractive to car thieves. Should have left it as it was before. Apart from that. Great updates.
I prefer the previous model of the G. It had a more tactile feel, which, to me, is essential to the experience of using a G. This newer version feels too digital, lacking the mechanical sensation that defines a G for me.
the differences are subtle but all they should be! Updated the infotainment and kept their best interior design language!! Shouldn't have went vertical screen at all. Always try to improve without revolutionizing a running system, this is an example of it Although have to say I'd have kept the old steering wheel and iwc Ahh I see they've updated the burmester too, one extra speaker in the roof.
Great video yet again, just one minor thing. In the future is it possible to make the commercial and video more equal regarding the sound. The commercials are always twice as loud as the video. Just a minor thing!
I’m quite surprised Mercedes are not offering a plug in hybrid G - something that could do circa 60/70 miles of elec and then the rest from a straight 6 or V8 (like a P550e Rover for example). This appeals to company car drivers and surely opens up the sales a bit more. Not sure I get the point of a mild hybrid, the c02 emissions are still very high so BIK is still mental. And in other news, hopefully this squeezes prices of the 2018 onwards G Wagon as they have been high for sometime, albeit they are sliding downhill.

I got the final edition g550, I am torn.. I think that the V8 that is in the g550 is a absolute Beauty but man would I like to have all the other things that the updated g500 and g63 now have. . Get the new(est) one. It sucks to take the depreciation hit but that pain will be soothed the moment you drive out of the dealership whilst having all those updated in your hands. Ahhh….

I think the G500 is the winner here. That powertrain in this vehicle and hopefully some proper off-road tires would be absolutely epic. I'll look for them on the second hand market because they are still out of reach for me as a new vehicle.
