Just discovered this video, I agree about the big 3 albums followed by Who are you & Who by numbers. One point is that Quadrophenia is not a soundtrack, the album came out in 1973, the film came out in 1979. The film wasn't thought about until the album was released.
Great show guys. For me: 1. Who's Next 2. Quadrophenia 3. Tommy 4. The Who by Numbers 5. Who Are You #1 always will be the same, the others constantly change in order.
1 Quadrophenia 2 Who’s Next 3 Sell Out 4 Tommy 5 My Generation (HM…Live At Leeds two disc version with Tommy…if we were counting live albums that would probably be 3)
Great show Hack here are my top 5 Who albums: 1. Who' Next 2. Tommy 3. Who are you 4. Quadrophenia 5. It's Hard 6. My Generation 7. Who by Numbers 8. The Who Sell Out 9. Face Dances
I am essentially in agreement with Pete here. I agree with Hack about the current Who tour; great show. It's been going on for a few years actually, and still is going on. It was interrupted by COVID but resumed recently with a different name but it's the same tour.
Great show Hack! I can tell when you talk about The Who, you get excited and have great admiration for the band and specifically Townshend and his genius. I'm the same. The Who speak to me in a way that Zeppelin and Sabbath don't. Their music speaks to your soul and I think because of Townshend's youth and experiences as a young man, people relate to their music on a human level. Live, nobody comes close to their power and intensity.
Enjoyed your interesting thoughts and comments, and those of your guests, on The 'Oo. Thanks for another great show Hack. Listening to you from the U.K.
Great show. As always Martin's choices are interesting. My top 3 are in no particular order Quadrophenia, Tommy and Who's Next. I also like The Who Sell Out, By Numbers, Who Are You & Face Dances.
Excellent show, Mr. Hack. Too bad you cats only do this once a month. Twice a month would be great, and weekly even better. But l understand, everyone here leads a busy life. My five favorite Who albums are: 5. Who Are You 4. Quadrophenia 3. Who’s Next 2. Face Dances 1. Tommy Cheers from Noo Yawk, ova heyah, mates! ~8^ )
Nothing to be ashamed of. You're actually very fortunate to be in a position to have a great band to explore that's new to you. And they're actually currently touring, albeit without two original members, but it's still a great setlist performed well.
Listen to his solo albums Psychoderelict and White City. Of course Martin will be able to comment more in detail on Pete Townshend (vocals). Catch up with some previous episodes on SoT with Martin.
My favourite is without question Live At Leeds. But for studio, it's either Tommy or Quadrophenia. I could never get into Who's Next; I just don't get the hype!
Great show Hack. Would strongly recommend Tommy - Live with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. It's better than the studio version imho and a must must listen.
Meaty Beaty and big and bouncy is a perfect album . Yes a sort of Best of 60s but with the cover it is for me their best sixties album . I do not like Tommy , even 50 years after buying it . Live at Leeds , Quadrophenia , Who’s next are all great . From Pete his fist album is on level with The Who’s albums
Without Entwistle and Moon it is *NOT* the Who and should be called "Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend in Concert sponsored by AARP, Depends and Geritol"
No, Tommy doesn't sound like the work of a seasoned musicians. It sounds like the work of someone young, still has a lot to learn but has something to say. That's far more powerful.
Sorry Martin, 'Endless Wire' is my least favorite Who album by miles. The only Who record I dislike. But I am with you on Empty Glass and All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes. Love those.
Never got into them. I gave them a shot like all other groups and they never did it for me. They have a handful of really good/great songs but also a lot of filler. All great musicians but the Sum of all the parts does not equal greatness

Cool stream Hack man ✌️👍
Thanks Andy. Cheers
Loved the show, gentlemen... bravo!
Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel. Cheers
I saw Rod Argent talked about playing on Who Are You. He said all members were in meetings all time … so may be that’s the thing….
I saw The Who when I was in high school at CNE Stadium in 1989. I remember it being a fantastic show. At that time I only knew Tommy and Who's Next.
Cool
@@GuitarHack66 I'm from Ottawa so it may have been my first road trip with some buddies.
@@tylerport7909 I'm in Toronto and I've seen a few shows there.

The only album I really like is "Who Are You". I can't say there's another one I like in its entirety but I can appreciate them. Cheers.
Agree. They never did it for me
1) The Who Sell Out
2)The Who Sings My Generation
3) Quadrophenia
4 Happy Jack/ A Quick One
5) Who's Next
No Moon, No Ox, no interest.
‘The Who Sell Out’ is… awesome. Pete’s writing here, for the first time, ushers in the merited superlative of ‘genius’.
Great show, guys! I admit (not without shame) that I'm a newbie to The Who; this helped a lot; thanks! 🍺🤘
Glad it was helpful!

Great show with this TRIO”. Thx. MARTIN/ PETE/ HACK. I’m a minority, I love PETE TOWNSHENDs vocals 👍💯
Glad you enjoyed it

Looking forward to 'Who's Next and Lifehouse demos' delayed 50th anniversary box set... hopefully it'll make it on time for the 51st anniversary.
