Odetta Holmes, (December 31, 1930 December 2, 2008), known as Odetta, was an American singer, actress, guitarist, songwriter, and a human rights activist, often referred to as "The Voice of the Civil Rights Movement". Her musical repertoire consisted largely of American folk music, blues, jazz, and spirituals. An important figure in the American folk music revival of the 1950s and 1960s, she was influential musically and ideologically to many of the key figures of the folk-revival of that time, including Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Mavis Staples, and Janis Joplin.

i was so Graced By God to have had the great honor&privilege of seeing Odetta in person in a small theatre in Mill Valley, CA she was so elegant and classy and wise her aura was pure light and magic & yes her captivating voice & countenance swept you up to Heaven for an evening. then i had heard not long after maybe a year ...of her passing. Thank You Odetta & ThankYou Jesus. I heard that Bob Dylan said after listening to Odetta, he wanted to become a folk singer.

Thank you Annalena. Two Giants of American Music ! Excellent !!!
A wonderful lady and a great performer - sadly missed.
I so love this woman and her voice is so enriched it is so captivating and so invigorating its unreal. I can listen to her sing all day long and not get tired of it at all. She has that deep southern voice and she applies it the way it is best in my opinion. I have loved her voice since the first time I listened to a song of hers that a friend played for me. I sure do love those southern singers and I would love to have met Odetta cause she rocks the house without even trying. Her voice will captivate you in a way you least expect and you will not be able to stop listening to her singing, if you are truly into blues and southern singing, cause she hits home in all the right ways and I love it.
A truly caring and sweet soul. I met her first time in Stockholm Sweden, early 70's then again many years later in Taos New Mexico....we still had the same connection.... and Yes, I'm smiling ♥️
