My gran who hasnt sang in years stood up on stage at a family party, sang this to an audience of family and friends who havent spoken to eachother in years, she had the whole place in tears, every single person standing, the place went mad for her and she done us proud! I didnt think such a beautiful sound could come from my gran! Amazing!
When that trumpet first sings, my heart jumped so high. It jumped higher than when I see my highschool crush at school. It was like my mind was pierced by that clear voice. And then, Ella sings, and my heart started to soar. One of the best moments of my day
This song, this performance puts my 18 month old daughter to sleep from her first days of her life...we dance to Cheek to Cheek and this brings the sweet dreams to our eyes... blessings to the souls od Ella Louis and Mr Gershwin...love to the world !
sublime, exquisite, perfect in every way "Summertime" is one of the most covered songs in the history of recorded music, with more than 33,000 covers by groups and solo performers. Sublime. Magical. Awesome
I know I am young and this is "before my time" but I have been in love with this woman for I don't know how long.. her voice puts me in a state that I can't help but love
J'avais 20 ans. Salutations et portez-vous bien.🎶 🥂🏖️🎶
I went to see one of my favourite singers early 80s Iris Williams she sang this you could have heard a pin drop talk about a standing ovation, Iris was from Wales fab voice
What a great performance from Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, and also my all-time favourite song, and my mum used to sing so beautifully and a great piece, and now I`ve got a complete Porgy and Bess on CD,and originally released on the Verve label, and they`re so many versions of this song, such as Adam Faith,Fun Boy Three,The Zombies,Gerry and the Pacemakers, etc.
I'm Arab and Young and I love this kind of music and perfect original voices... Gene Pitney, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong.. all those are old but gold..
They were before my time - and many people my age like dubstep, rap, and Bieber.... but nothing compares to these music legends. The opposition they faced for being colored in that day and age while being true to their art shows that anything is possible with passion, love, and undying self expression.
+Caleb Ventura What kids listen to today isn't rap. It's shit. REAL rap isn't listened to anymore. REAL rappers are music legends. You don't know what ''rap'' is fam.
+Tom H Should have clarified instead of associating a whole genre with what is currently "top 40" my bad. Glad that you're very passionate about it though, shows that the true art will survive with true fans.
Caleb Ventura Yeah I apologize for "lashing out" I guess lol I realize now that you meant the fuckin Bobby Shmurda/Fetty Wap shit. I am quite passionate actually haha. Have a nice day
mouwersor I'm talking mainly about Millennials, which vary in age....and I don't feel morally superior, just discouraged that so many don't appreciate this music.
Ella Fidgerald wieczna nigdy nie gasnaca gwiazda amerykanskiej piosenki i do tego rownie genialny Louis Amstrong . Ten utwor jak i wiele innych , to prawdziwe szlagiery . Nigdy sie niezestarzeja . One sa takie sentymentalne . az slodkie .
When I hear Ella singing this song with so much emotion. I can almost feel the baking sun on my back and the sweat dripping down my face, as I'm picking the cotton in the Summertime heat. While the rich slave owner's kids are happy, playing and laughing in the garden pond. They are the same age as me, but born in different worlds.
One of these mornings You're gonna rise up singing You gonna spread your wings And take, and take to the sky Until that morning Ain't nothing can harm you
Absolutely with out question- the greatest song ever written and sang by 1 of the best singers of all time Ella Fitzgerald- Shane about Armstrong he spoils it
Absolutely without question one of the most tedious and boring songs ever written, destroyed by more amateur singers than one can count. Ella here is ok, but even she can't make much of it.
O.M.G. all credit to various fantastic arrangements but this version of "When Jazz Saints March - *George Gershwin, Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong* " - "Summertime"
«Ой, ходить сон коло вікон» («Summertime») Її написав Джордж Гершвін 1935 року для опери «Поргі та Бесс». Але насправді, кілька століть тому, ця композиція була співзвучна українській народній колисковій «Ой, ходить сон коло вікон». У Нью-Йорку Гершвін почув її вперше у виконанні Українського Національного Хору під керівництвом Олександра Кошиця.
First time i heard this song it was in 4th grade and my teacher had taken a small group of students to see the choir at the Mt. Baker Theater. It was amazing, i wanted to sing like Louis... looking back... a 9 year old girl singing like louis is kind of silly... but i loved it.
Easy listening world class song. Great to listen to while on lockdown (coronavirus) 2020. Two wonderful performers with voices that compliment each other so well. ❤❤❤ 🍪pocket uk.
Ella, loved and respected as she is, has seldom been given the accolade she deserves as by FAR the greatest singer of the 20th century...beyond Pavarotti,Sinatra, Simone, Callas and Swartzkopf. I would have preferred it without Satchmo singing a verse, but Ella then does her verbal trumpet solo afterwards with sublime variation and subtlety! Astonishingly wonderful!
I don't get why people always want to name "the best" at anything really. Even among female jazz singers, who's to say? Ella certainly gets lots of plaudits, all well deserved I'm sure, but the contrary view is that she was actually at her best with the Chick Webb orchestra (which she inherited] and singing with the likes of the Ink Spots, but after the war she gradually became (in my opinion) carried away with herself as an "artiste", lost the ability to swing and with little respect for her audience or the composers or even her fellow artists, became very self indulgent. She could still do it, note her fabulous albums of Cole Porter songs, but the best? I guess she'd be in the mix, which is certainly something, but uncritical admiration does nobody any favours.
@@MrDorbel My best is not everyone' s. I guess that my main point is that the tight trained opera voices get the big accolades and Ella had hers but for me she outshone all opera singers.

This tune is an oasis after a very long time in the desert.
Well put!
we need more music like this one... happy people beautiful times.
It's kind of a sad song...bittersweet. Definitely down tempo
Louis & Ella, what a remarkable pairing. He plays that horn like no other, and her voice is smooth like butter. Sweet Summertime...
Soooooo true! Ella is singing high and contrasts with Louis Armstrong's raspy, low voice...
