Melchester Model Railway
Приєднався 4 сер 2017
Melchester is the name of my 00 gauge loft based model railway. Set somewhere in Wessex, it was the name given by the Author Thomas Hardy to the Market Town of Salisbury. Melchester is a Southern Region steam era railway set sometime in the 1950's. I also occasionally operate Diesel and Electric locomotives from the BR Blue era of the 1980's.

I visit the Isle of Wight Steam Railway for the first time and see the Adams O2 tank engine, as well as purchase an EFE model of it.

INTERCITY 125: Installing "Maglight" in Hornby's new Mk 3 coaches - Night-time running session.
Переглядів 233Місяць тому
In this video I assess my coaching stock for the Intercity 125 set - a mix of old Lima and Hornby's 1999 moulding. I compare the old Lima and the new Hornby power cars; install the new "Maglight" system and some passengers; concluding with an evening running session on a dark wet evening. I also include my own re-composition of an old InterCity 125 advert, which I played on the piano and spoons!

Great video. Always nice to see real relics from a bygone era. Happy Modelling
A lovely video, expertly filmed with delightful music.
Thank you very much.
Superb video quality and great narration. 🙂
Thank you, I have a new microphone so I'm glad the narration was better.
One thing is clear.........I should have emigrated years ago britain ( with a small b ) is finished. To be honest I have known this for many years . Just my Cottage in Wales that keeps me here after living here 65 years
Question how did you locate the station in the first place did you contact some one at the film studio?great video up load more Please.Francis Herron in Dublin in the Rep of Ireland.
My late parents loved Will Hay so of course in time I did too. My favourite film was 'Oh Mr Porter'. I ended up living close to this old line, I am a steam train lover and it is so sad what Beeching did to this country ripping up railways, destroying communities and making people unemployed and homeless WELL DONE BEECHING. It would be lovely to see this trackbed relaid as a Heritage line. I must visit this place. Thanks for sharing.
Very much enjoyed the video, thank you so much! Could I possibly ask what the audio is at about 13:45? My partner and I have enjoyed listening to it greatly. Thank you for your time, Dawn x
Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the music, it was something I composed myself based on the Oh Mr Porter tune.
Wonderful presentation,many thanks.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.
Another stunning video from Melchester, which is rapidly becoming one of my favourite layouts; largely because of the excellent commentary (and sometimes the storyline) that accompanies the film. You just need to sync the sound levels with the different clips that you include. Regards, Eric.
@@akrills Thanks Eric, yes for some reason the buit in mic has used has been quieter than usual, so I hope you could still make out the narrative. I've ordered a new mic so hopefully next vid will be better sound.
Interesting that Lima was the better model. Layout looks great as always. Happy Modelling
Yes It was a big improvement on the 70's Hornby model. Happy modelling to you too.
Wonderful video l love the old Lima models too for 40 years old not bad. All the best Colin from Mossend railway oo.
Thanks, The Lima model it's still going strong, and runs better under DCC.
The old Lima still puts up a ridiculously good performance for a 40 odd year old design. With a CD motor, the old brutes are even more capable.
Yes, I've heard about people replacing the motor with CD ones. - A bit above my pay grade!
Nice job. Well done.
@@rodericfindlay4147 Thanks for watching.
Very effective night-time views with passengers inside.
Beautiful railway and superb filming. Thank you.
@@rodericfindlay4147 Thank-you very much.
Really interesting to watch! Lovely attention to detail. I was wondering how you make the station anouncements? -It really add an extra level of realism & atmosphere. Thanks so much!
@@alyciamarrison2916 Thanks very much. The station announcements are clips from old 1950's films. It's remarkable how many films from that era often feature railway stations.
Very cool. The magic of cinematography 👍😅
Great video
Thanks Richard.
I visited cliddeston in the early 80s & walked on the platform edge that was left at the time, the garden wasn’t extended at this period so you could access all areas. Great memories. Steve
Great show. Such a blast from the past. 👍
Thank you for posting, a very enjoyable video full off nostalgia.
Absolutely dreadful over development.
thank you for sharing, so much better than watching the television
Thanks very much!
Very funny😂 he was a bit rude.😊
Absolutely fascinating Chris thanks! I'm going to have to visit that, what voltage are they? Cheers Mike
Thanks Mike, I think it's 250 Volts. Well worth a nice trip on the ferry from Southampton.
@@melchestermodelrailway cheers Chris, guess they plug in to someone's extension lead then 😆
@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited 😂🤭Ha Ha! It's probably easier than the batteries that used to power them!
I often frustrate fellow conservatives by letting them know I'm a tree hugger! With me it's similar to what I've read elsewhere in the responses I take it from what I consider to be a Christian perspective and not one that deals with man's legislation and the use of government but one that deals with what God tells us through scripture! Sooo...Just as Christ has saved me and asked for him in my life by own free will he has done so by his own free will! From the King James Version of The Holy Bible In The 13 Chap. of The Book of Psalms at 13:22 - A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: And the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. Being righteuos as far as God is concerned NEVER goes out of style!
Awesome bit of history. Great video. 👍
Very interesting and enjoyable, thank you. What is the lovely Irish tune played?
Fascinating. Thanks for the comparison.
Thanks for watching!
Simply amazing
This whole format is amazing. The scenery and the narration is so informative and relaxing.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Nice video. Thank you.
Thanks for watching.
Very interesting and especially as it is not just a historical relic! Nicely videoed and narrated as always on this channel.🙂
Thank you. Yes, it is very much a working railway rather than a tourist attraction.
Great vid , but I'm confused about dating. I want stock that would be relevant to the 40s, are you saying that the ones sold by Kernow on offer are 50s era, because of the colour? I thought it was SR green, not BR green, and that SR green was used in the 40s ?
Yes, It can be a confusing subject! Anything in Southern Malachite Green that features the "Southern" lettering would be fine for the 40's prior to 1948, so the first two sets (Set 44, and 973) would both be suitable, also anything in the Southern Railway Olive Green livery. All the other sets featured are from the BR era (i.e. 1948 onward) when much of the rolling stock that had been painted in Crimson and Cream was repainted into Southern (BR) Green. It's a bit of a minefield! I found BloodandCustard.org to be a very helpful resource in researching the dates of the liveries I featured in this video. You may find it helpful too.
Thanks Chris, thats most helpful! I was looking for Olive Green too, but thry are thin on the ground for a decent price as a seller called MGR models seems to be monopolising them and charging too much... if you see any let me know. @melchestermodelrailway
Brilliant🎉
Amazing! Curious of which ballasts used on mainline and branch lines thx
That 'not a Southern' signal box looks grand. Being an American who has long had a an interest, though something of a low key interest, in UK trains it is only within the past several years, and through the Trainz railroad simulator that I've even begun to be aware of the differences between signal box styling.
Melchester.....Oh Wow!!!!! Do Roy and Blackie and the lads, still trot out on the pitch come Saturday?
That would be great, I really need a pitch!
Thank you for the video, Chris. I love watching the steam effects in your video. The layout is fantastic as good as seeing the real one.
Thanks Patt!
Hello, it's a very nice layout 👍, I have a question why did you choose switching motors on the table and not under the running surface?
Thanks. It was my first layout using point motors so I wasn't too sure if everything would work, so I used surface motors in case I had to move the location of points and track. Also the layout is only 9 inches above the floor so access underneath is not the easiest although not impossible.
@@melchestermodelrailway ok i understand. It’s realy a nice layout and i like it very well. Thank you very much. 👍😃
I love the layout and how you tell the stories. Nice to hear about you playing the organ at home and in the churches, before I retired I worked for a company that produce the electronics for pipe organs. Great vidoes so keep them coming.
Interesting to hear that, thanks very much.
What a lovely layout. Very impressed with the visual effects and most of all this is a modeller who isn’t afraid of having some fun, we need more of this in the hobby 😁👍
Thanks very much, it's always great fun except when things don't work properly!
Thank you for showing us your fantastic layout. I look forward to part 3.
Thank-you very much for watching.
Your layout looks amazing Chris. 👍 Great work. Happy Modelling
Thanks very much!
Hi Chris. Your talent is absolutely superb. Wish I had a 1/4 of it. About the only thing I have the same as you are the surface point motors. Seen a lot of your videos alway leave me spell bound. Thanks Chris. Thumbs up thumped 👍 .... Pete....
Thank-you Pete, that's very kind of you to say.
Absolutely excellent Chris, love all that you've done. Your video editing and style really shines through well done 🎉
Thanks Mike, that's very kind. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Fantastic video matey was wondering when you were going to post again. Just some issues with very quiet audio at times during the video. Cheers Shaun
Thanks Shaun, yes I had some problems with my mic so the narration was a bit quiet at times.
Many thanks. I don't own an Accurascale Deltic but videos like this are Extremely helpful to assist in tracking down similar problems. Like the way you analysed each step. Well done. Howard.😊
Thank you.
Listening to Beethoven's Pastorale and wondering how you are. No videos for a little while. I do hope all is well with you.
Thanks Kelly, I'm fine thanks, part 2 of my layout tour will be coming soon, but have been very busy with a project on my music channel so not much time recently for model railway stuff.
It looks great, but it's too neat and tidy.. it needs more coal all over the ground and I would have made one nearly empty ready to be filled up.. One thing with scratch building is that you can tailor make it to your railway layout instead of being generic.
Lovely video Chris, beautifully put together. Thanks very much for the mention, TH looks great on Melchester. Steve
