      I adore their energies, Dynamic Trios ain't so common back in the days, most HipHop groups are even larger scaled, but mostly I prefer energetic ones like Outkast over gangsta rap stuff

    I worked at a record shop when Paul's Boutique came out, and NOBODY wanted it. You could have handed out copies and people would have handed them back. This is how far ahead of everybody they were. It took years for this album to get the recognition it deserved. I remember seeing this video back on MTV, and it gave me chills. I see this now, and it still gives me chills.

    When you watch the Beasties interacting in the rooftop footage, its abundantly clear how giving they were to each other, and would step out the way for each to have their moment in the lens, never ever about "me", and always about "us".
    All the best bands through history do exactly the same thing.

    I think most people don’t realize the amount of time, and tedious effort that it took to create this album. Recorded analog. Actual tape loops. Also from a stylistic standpoint, what a huge shift from License to ILL. They grew up, no more mindless frat boy music exploiting women. Paul’s Boutique was a huge turning point in their career, especially moving forwards when they began to add more live instrumentation to their music.

    That beat is pure madness. So much stuff, sounds, odd melodies, funky bass lines, lot of different snares, amazing cymbals, punchy kick, top notch engineering/production. Porn for ears. I miss in newschool music production like this, seriously some people just don´t understand why i prefer this kind of production. It aged perfectly. That middle section with turntables/scratches with that brutal bass line... it brought tears in my eyes.

Souvent les paroles des BB ne sont que des absurdités amusantes. Je suis d'accord avec toi que ça ne fait rien, parce que la musique est une langue universelle, je dirais une langue d'émotion pure.     Paul's Boutique is one of those albums you can tell a lot of heart and effort went into making. TONS of samples, music so good you'll appreciate it for decades and hilarious, fun, smooth lyrics. And it is literally overflowing with songs. Few albums have so much talent. Love this shit!

    "Paul's Boutique" is without a doubt the best Hip Hop album ever made. Nobody is even close. When that album came out it was the coolest most unique record anyone had made for that genre to the point where even hardcore and metal fans were hooked on the Beastie Boys overnight. I have had the pleasure of playing that album for my teenage kids recently and they were dumbfounded. New fans goes without saying.

    This whole album is unbelievable. I don't think the youngsters now appreciate just how hard and time consuming it was to create beats like this back then. The DJs, back when DJs could actually mix, were f**king insane.

    This was my snowboarding soundtrack on my Walkman back in the day when it came out. That whole album still holds so strong. I did miss the break on this version where you hear the matchstick light and then hearing the bowl getting snapped before the explosion into the drums.

    1:55 such funky tears, mike is always straight up inspiration to get on the turntables and jam. Seriously, turntablists were the backbone of hiphop - it was never the same when MCs and DJs went their separate ways. Now MCs rap over computer beats and it just doesn't have the funk.

      yasssssssss! autotune and computer beat is NOT the same, even among the best of them out there right now. that's not music to me. that's interesting and sometimes highly clever mix, but it's just not music on this level. you dont get cred from me if you cant old school scratch til your arms hurt.

    The best lyrics not only for any Beastie Boys song but any rap song period. No vulgarity and stupidity just creative irreverence with a twist of brash confidence. This was their genre.

    To make a song strining beats and music from sampling 12 or so records is incredible.
    No Way it could be done today just to create one song sampling 12 records would cost you a fortune. Probably more than any profit you would make with your song going. Platinum.

    This was when Hip-Hop was fun, these guys told stories, cracked jokes, and roasted people. It was just good clean fun and the beats were snazzy and catchy. Not just the Beastie Boys but most Hip-Hop back during this time like Kool Moe D, and LL's early days.

    I remember buying this album back in 89. All of my friends thought it was wack. I told them they were f'n crazy and if they took the time to listen to it they'd see that it wasn't. Glad to see I was right. This album made them into rap icons.

      Bought it as a freshman in college on the heels of License to Ill. Wasn't ready for it. The BBoys grew up more in that interim than I did. Took me a while to catch up. But I did. Great, great record. Unbelieveable.

    A sophisticated, progressive, energizing & often amusing joint, the epoch-making Beastie Boys (w/help from the D Brothers) masterpiece Paul's Boutique is a stunning achievement, the impact of which can't be overstated representing a period in which the B. Boys seemed to expand significantly as artists & human beings.
    My bruvs, GFs and I listened to this frequently and regularly and it never went completely out of rotation, increasing our yields of feat i.e. electrifying-ly good times past present and future w/PB as d ultimate sndtrck. Thanks, Beastie Boys!
