  • Programming The RETEVIS RA685 Duel band Handheld For 2M /70cm
Retevis sent me this great little handheld to review, The RA 685 is a super first time radio for the newbie or for anyone that needs a budget duel bander.
This simple no nonsenses analogue radio works out of the box, is simple to program and use, best of all its great value for money at around £40 to £50 that's less than the FT-4XE from Yaesu and only a couple of quid more than the cheapest Baofeng (prices at the time of upload)
Dual band Ham band Radio: 144-146MHZ(RX/TX) 430-440MHZ(RX/TX)
    See website for details
    www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09F8GJ4V...
This video/upload is my view of the RA685, I am not paid, sponsored or affiliated with Retevis in any way. Hope you enjoy...
    Just for fun
    Please subscribe and like.
    Cheers
    Mike - M0MSN
P.S. do not take my word for it, give it a go for yourself.

Loving how a retevis rep is answering most comments so far on this vid.
I have one of these. I found chirp to be easier use for programming than the retevis software but I do have both. I’m new to all this and I’m gonna go ahead and guess it’s just a learning curve, for me at least.

Hi Mike, nice video. I managed with chirp but I got the impression the set was only responding to the computer for a short window following switch on. Regards, John G8CQX

I'm surprised it worked so easily for you. I have a Retevis R95 dual band mobile radio and the software from the website doesn't recognize it at all. I have to use chirp to change anything. A small gripe, otherwise a decent radio. Supposed to be 25w output on high, mine hits the dummy load with 23w on mid and almost 40w on high.....it's 10w more than my licence allows....not too shabby for under $100AUD delivered to my door. It does have the crappiest microphone I have ever had though, it feels like a kiddies toy, and you have no option to change it for another mike without a major headache.

Will it scan in memory mode and is the backlight meant to stay on when receiving a signal ?

Lol, Baofeng does influence a lot, but it doesn't define ham radio. 😂
