My trip to Nicaragua: Nagarote & León

The distance from Manaqua to Nagarote is 48km which is about an hour. Nagarote is a small town known for its typical Nicaraguan snack called quesillo. Quesillo is made out of tortilla, a little bit of salt, a special cheese, cream & onions with vinegar. Although they do sell quesillos all over the country, Nagarote makes them the best because it originated there. Many locals pair it with a traditional drink called tiste. Tiste is made out of cocoa bean, corn, rice, & cinnamon and is served in a jicara cup. I highly recommend stopping by to try it. It’s so creamy & refreshing. YOU GOTTA TRY IT 😋

The distance from Nagarote to León is 51.5km which is about another hour. León is the former capitol of Nicaragua & is known as the city of churches since there is a cathedral on every block. León is home to the largest cathedral in Central American called Cathedral-Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This cathedral is a significantly important and historic landmark of León, Nicaragua. It’s a Roman Catholic Church ⛪️ completed in 1814 & the famous poet Ruben Dario is buried inside. Also known for the home of “La Gigantona” which means “big lady.” All located in the Central Park. She is a representation of tall Spanish women, higher knowledge, beauty & splendor. She’s dressed in colorful, lavish clothing & is about 9 feet tall.
Tomorrow we will visit “el cerro negro” which means “black mountain” where we will go volcano boarding. 🌋
