@@jonmakesbeats Dude please, tell me that you’ve recorded your voice over this heavy beat ! Otherwise, is there any chance to get a final mixed/mastered version of the beat on your Patreon website ?
Wow, it's genuinely wild how you're able manipulate all those samples and mix em all together into a crazy cool ass beat all the while teaching us some of the magic, no less in 34 minutes. Bravo to both of you, this is some real inspiring stuff.
Been a fan of your music for years but only recently discovered this channel. This is by far the most informative and entertaining octatrack video I’ve seen and I’ve done a lot of research on that thing. And a really nice beat no less!
So, I originally watched this video before getting an Octatrack and had zero idea what the hell was happening. I am now watching it again after having an Octatrack for some months and it is like I had learnt a new language. Things made sense. Interesting feeling.
That LFO effect you put on that Glock had me going for a second, but I saw you through. Can’t wait to use these these new tricks on my beats. Thanks Barry
Absolutely marvelous! You take your time to explain everything, and in a simple and effective way. The best I’ve yet to see on the internet/ YT. Bravo to you brotha!
Hey Jon! A suggestion. You recently talked about making a “the joy of painting” type serie, I think it would be really helpful if, in it, you go as in depth in your process as in this video. I remember being young and dreaming of in depth beatmaking session videos like these. Plus I got an Octa and love learning your ways of working it. I’m excited to see where you go with this 👍
To create linked slices, you can always create a slice grid and move the slice points around. Ricky Tinez taught me this and it really sped up my workflow on the Octatrack.
Yeah that is definitely a valid way to slice but I find myself moving the slices once they're created so much that it's just easier to do it like how I've been doing it
I love your very clear explanation of doing slices. In each step of your video it is clear what you are doing. And not to forget NI machine makes slicing even easier than the mpc. Anc clear OTC ia more than a sampler.
I’ve been wanting to see your workflow so I can see if there is anything I can improve on while using the Octatrack. The great news is from watching you on stream and your workflow on other gear I’ve pretty much been able to get as close as I can but this video showed me the keys I need to unlock a new level of beat making. 🙏🏻 keep up the good work mate you’re absolutely crushing!
This is one i was looking for. As a long time hip hop digitakt producer I was grateful for the new update but not being able to zoom in on samples or move the end and starts is trash. With this video i believe Its time to make the leap to the flagship and this is so happens to be my workflow also < Its crazy. Thanks Jon
This is incredible! Thank you for laying this all out. I don't think I ever really took the time to explore how slices worked with sampling, and so it just never clicked with the workflow. This makes me want to get an Octratrack because I like this methodical process of getting things set first.
BREH am I just now finding out Jon Wayne has a youtube channel where he teaches beatmaking on the OT? Thought I was recognizing the voice. Shoutout you man you're a massive inspiration
The Octatrack is just so cumbersome to use compared to the MPC. I literally don’t use it anymore. Only when I want it to take twice as long to do anything.
8:46 Wow, might look like a minor detail, but that zero crossing square is _dope_ ! There is nothing more annoying than having to zoom in 100x just to hit those zero crossings manually... (as it is the case on virtually any other device...)
Bro I am a huge fan, still bumping rap album 1 & 2, I was just curious about people using octotrack for hip hop, when I started it, I was thinking why is this voice so familiar, low and behold it’s jonwayne himself, love the content, also tradition every year for me to bump Yuletide bangerz in December.🤙❤️
You're an awesome dude. Extremely interesting channel, I've never really been into sampling with hardware but this is changing my mind! I love the creativity you share, it's a real skill.
I love seeing the wide range of music people make with the octatrack. I use mine for house and techno but this is making me want to give beats a try. Thanks for the great video Jon!
Facts it's a modular machine. Half the trouble learning it is deciding what kind of machine you want it to be and creating a template. Everyone uses it differently
Elektron's sequencers are calling me. 😂these looks fun to use for hip-hop. even the little Model:Samples they came out with a few years ago. Its the parameter Locking for me. i love that as an option
I have a habit of doubling the tempo because it gives me more space to work with. It's like having 32 steps instead of 16. Think of it like a magnifying glass on your sequence. I find normal tempo to be too cramped but I've been doing this for the last 15 years
This is hot! Thank you for explaining much of this process. Such a versatile machine and I’m just learning what it can do. Thank you for the inspiration.
Why isn't the RYTM made for this!? Its crazy. Has the pads etc but Elektron were like, "nah" with the functions but ok on the Octaka with its no pads having ass....?
Thank God! An actual skilled beatmaker making high quality beatmaking videos. A breath of fresh air while the world is falling apart around us. 👏✨

hey barry really enjoying this channel so far. just wondering though, would you recommend always doubling the bpm or only on a machine like this?
