Alan must have some serious inner discipline to carry out this musical cull . I can understand when he sold most of his DM memorabillia a few years back , but this mentally not so easy or financially lucrative . For me ,it would be like selling a part of your soul.Hope all goes well for both parties and aiding any record shop's survival , can only be a great thing nowadays.

As Mr Wilder doesn't have a lot of DM songwriting credits, and I have wondered what his source of income has been since he left the band nearly thirty years ago, perhaps he's short of money.

Alan Wilder used to live in the neighbouring village to me but he's moved now. Hove is half an hour from me but I won't be going as it will be a bun fight and I don't have a record player (haven't done since the 90s). Alan Wilder was the actual genius of DM. Totally lost interest when he left as the songs after Ultra were garbage. Love that faith healer track you're playing that whole bloodline album was brilliant

It looks an amazing collection -im sure the sale will go very well- the Jimi Hendrix stuff looks very interesting as well as the Bowie records -wish i could go -im in Cornwall!!

Wow 40 years eh & have to admit i liked the singles at the time but listening now they all are 1000 times better than i remember which is a testament to Trevor Horn's Production & i would love to say the bands playing but it seems Horn now has said they played on very little on the finished 4 sides which is a shame... The full length title track is up there with the greatest 1980s songs listening back.

At the time, I thought they were the most over-hyped band since the Pistols, and wasn't a fan. Even so, they had a sensational 12 months, and nostalgia-wise this album have stood test of time.

Great stuff. Really interesting to hear from GCF, the creator of such good, contemporary music. Interesting that the H word does not seem to be mentioned in relation to WRNTDP (not that I've seen, anyway). Hauntology being "a range of ideas referring to the return or persistence of elements from the social or cultural past" I think describes aspects of Gordon's work well. As someone of the demographic of the core of the audience of this programme (I'm assuming!), it's not just about some kind of nostalgia, but an appreciation of the appeal of the aspirational ideas of the past - the development of technologies and society to serve the greater good - that were fundamentally optimistic and it is good to be reminded of such positivity. The title, "A Shared Sense Of Purpose" for example, neatly encapsulates this and is as essentially philosophical as it is hopeful. And, yeah, they are sick tunes. I really hope WRNTDP can make it down to Exeter some time : D

Thanks andy & mark for this great review of FGTH’s classic welcome to the pleasure dome lp. I bought the double picture disc lp when I was 15 from the HMV megastore in bond street back in 1984. Still have it to this day. Great album 😊

An album that received terrible reviews at the time, and it's not improved with age. Overlong, stuffed with filler and about three good tracks.

I remember getting the cd as soon as it came out and playing it to death! So controversial at the time which is laughable now.

I loved that album and the title track (I think) was the best track. My preference would have been if they'd stuck to original music perhaps using the 10 minute Mix 2 version of Ballad of 32 instead of the shorter version and adding Disneyland which was later released on a compilation album.

This episode brought back to me the excitement I felt when the album came out. Thanks lads, you made my day!

Always thought it odd that with so much electronics... none of the Frankies played keyboards? Fair play though, the lads wrote some good tunes. My mate bought this in 84... I was into Depeche, OMD and Ultravox.

Never had this album, but all the chart hits were belters!

I bought this album as soon as I heard the single, what a visionary and seminal piece of music! This changed me forever, and my perceptions of what constitutes music. It still sounds great today, amazing production and some great tracks, Moments In Love in particular is still a masterpiece all this time later.

TBH this is Bowie's worst album by far. I remember buying this on cassette at the time it was released, with great excitement. This was based on the 2 fantastic singles Blue Jean and Loving The Alien (prob. my favourite Bowie song) but My heart sank when I heard the other tracks, what a pile of steaming doo doo!! Terrible!

I remember buying Echo and The Bunnymen's Ocean Rain, U2's The Unforgettable Fire and Frankie's Pleasuredome when I was 15 and they all came out a few months of each other.Amazing year
