The spreader is a keeper!! Nice job bringing it back to life. The 1955 really sounds strong. I bought a 1955 last fall really like it. Pulls real good this spring prepping ground. Thanks to you I bought it, after watching all your videos on 1955 and you speaking so highly of it I just had to have one. Thanks for the video.
The spreader looks lots better than it did when you got it. Not only is the drawbar being shorter going to help with the ride, it's less stress on it. That's a win win deal. I got a laugh when I saw the dogs playing in the background, 😂. See you later.
Another success video, the spreader working like it should and wheat looking good too. When I was a spreader truck driver for Agway, we qualified all our spreaders with a pre season field meeting. We laid 7 pans, all equally spaced and sized in the field. Straddle the center pan with the spreader while at operational speed and rpm. Dump each pan in small clear cups, and this will give you a spread pattern and spread width. Then, measure how wide the optimal field passes should be. I'm forgetting how we combined the cups, but it should be a level line of fertilizer equal to the center cup.
@Oliver66FarmBoy right, on the spreader trucks, we moved the spinners forward and backward to get the spread pattern for ammoniated nitrates and bulk blend 0-10-40 and wet lime. We had a charted setting on each truck. I kept my own little book for quick reference.
Good stuff Ethan, you’re right about fertilizer chipping away at paint, it’s like media blasting the paint when working with dry fertilizer…lol. Keep em comin OFB…
That spreader is the 3rd best investment you've made in the last year, next to the tracks & applicator. I could tell she works well by the even spread pattern out the back. I put a 12V vibrator on mine to help with the damned load bridging out in the hopper. (You know how moist things like to glom together) I use it for sanding bush road hills in the winter around here as well.
Glad to see your effort that you put in on the spreader is working great for you! Thanks for the ride along and good luck on getting that land to farm!
I now it great to own your own spreader. You can spread your own when it needs to be done and weather conditions are right. Great video and a job well done. Spreader repair and spreading.
Hi Ethan, I've always thought the stripe on the 55 series was gold. When I bought my 1855 the stripe is a light green like the accent green on the Specual. I mentioned this to the guy I purchased ot from and he said the green stripe is correct. I've always seen the stripe in gold. Today, watching your video it looked like the stripe on your 1955 is green. Were earlier ones gold and later built green? Mine was built March 28th 1974. Great videos, thank you.
So? Then they end up the my bosses 4450 and 4240 and the ears on the snap rings get bent so they are hard to get ahold of. Or the snap rings get tweaked and doesnt want to fit in the groove just right. Or the spare shaft sticks in the storage port and you bust your hand on the sway block every time you go to pull it out. Or the splines don’t line up right when you go to swap shafts and it takes 15 minutes of fucking around to get them lined up because when you turn the shaft everything in the pto housing turns because of the oil drag. Typical Deere guy, takes a perfectly normal situation where nobody even mentioned another color tractor and has to turn it into a dick measuring contest because reasons. IH, Allis, Massey, Ford, Oliver, Case, literally everybody else gets along fine, It’s always Deere guys that act like they have something to prove. Then you sit there surprised as to why you catch so much hate from everyone else.
Hey Ethan,,1955 is a super sharp looking tractor. Grab the spreader if it's decent and reasonable. Still a piece of Oliver history.
Love the sound of that tractor and the spreader is working so much better since the last time we saw it in the field!
Yep

You weigh the fertilizer and all the samples should be about the same.

Got to feel good when a plan comes together.

I always thought about putting an agitation auger in one.
Call that a success Ethan nice job
Yep
Ethan, well that was good that there were only minor repairs for the spreader to get it going for now. Thanks Michael
Yep

I noticed big tractor power had your 1950T in one of his shorts discing a farm progress
Good job done Farm Boy!! Looks like you might be getting a snow again soon.
It all missed us.

That’s the best part.
Thanks
I've harvested god knows how many thousands acres of shitty wheat and still laugh every time you say poverty grass.
That’s what it’s called.
Yea kinda like Welfare cows. 😂

They are all green. Old decals will fade to a yellow color.
You send sarcasm at swapping to shafts on older Deere tractors but at least with Deere you only need a pliers to swap them, and a tenth of the time

Well said and I deal with both g&r on our farm
Now if you could teach teeter to drop pins in hitches you would be set!
