American society has become anti-male. Men are sensing the backlash and are consciously and unconsciously going "on strike." They are dropping out of college, leaving the workforce and avoiding marriage and fatherhood at alarming rates. The trend is so pronounced that a number of books have been written about this "man-child" phenomenon, concluding that men have taken a vacation from responsibility simply because they can. But why should men participate in a system that seems to be increasingly stacked against them?
As Men on Strike demonstrates, men aren't dropping out because they are stuck in arrested development. They are instead acting rationally in response to the lack of incentives society offers them to be responsible fathers, husbands and providers. In addition, men are going on strike, either consciously or unconsciously, because they do not want to be injured by the myriad of laws, attitudes and hostility against them for the crime of happening to be male in the twenty-first century. Men are starting to fight back against the backlash. Men on Strike explains their battle cry.

I overheard my neighbors daughter talking with her friends in their backyard. One girl said her sister just got married but was planning to be divorced soon. She said she wanted to get married and have a wedding because it was on her bucket list but was never really crazy about the guy. She was gonna leave him in a few months. THAT'S SOME COLD-HEARTED SHIT. poor bastard.

The reality is we don’t. We really don’t. Most men I’ve met at one point actually wanted nothing more than to marry, start a family and a home together, and live in peace till death. Now they’ve said fuck it and have resorted to staying single and pumpin and dumpin.
Women caused this, and it will be the downfall of society. Maybe if women stopped being ungrateful, mind playing children and actually just appreciated good men; they’d be a lot happier

I'm 32, in law school studying LLM tax law, never married and have no children. A few years back, my younger brother was suffering from depression because most of his friends were getting married and starting families. He felt defective despite being extremely intelligent (PhD chemistry student), funny, and an overall great guy. I told him "wait a few years, your friends are going to be miserable". Sure enough, he currently has two buddies living with him that are going through a nasty divorce. He now realizes that marriage is the most irrational decision a modern man can make. Third-wave feminism has ruined the chance for most guys to have a healthy, fruitful, and productive relationship.
This phenomena, while incredibly frustrating for men, will ultimately hurt women the most. Guys like my brother and myself, have checked out of the endeavor of finding a wife. We represent the beliefs of millions of Western men, and it's about time.

People are now seeing marriage as some kind of milestone they need to cross or society or family simply says they need to do. They are not looking to find the right partner for them. Marriage is a lifetime commitment, not just something you "try" like you're in a fitting room to see if it works for you and then decide to jump ship after the first argument you get into. If you don't love someone to that point where you can't see yourself giving up your player lifestyle, then you shouldn't be married. Before you get married you need to be sure that you are on the same page about finances, raising children, belief system, and a variety of other things before you tie the knot. If you are not on the same page about the aforementioned then you are not ready to be married.

But neither were in the past as complicated as they have now been made to be, though, Terrell Davis. Congrats man! I retired from the military at age 43 and at 49 I sold my home I had a mortgage on and used the equity to buy a home outright where the real estate was cheaper in a small town. Now I am 100 percent retired now that I don't have a mortgage and I am saving for an Airstream. I also never married and have no kids. Life is good.

Well, in countries with Christian heritage, marriage is the foundation for raising children. But at some point it just became social norm whether you wanted kids or not. IMO, marriage is an outdated social convention.
Most non-christian nations also have a form of marriage, for example India and hinduism, before the British empire. It's strange that humanity has a natural tendency to believe in a higher power, but it's not strange that we link these beliefs with love. Humans are wired to find an ideal partner for life, have sex and raise children, which is why across all cultures (as far as I know) we condemn adultery and unfaithfulness, because they aren't beneficial to our species as a whole. However now society encourages and glorifies the single life and it has caused a lot of problems which weren't as bad as in the past (for example teen pregnancies, single parents, men who live in their mom's basement etc.). My point is that though marriage may be an outdated concept, IMO, we should still be trying to encourage faithfulness and creating a stable home for children with two parents (studies show their sexuality has no real effect) and if not for religious reasons, at least legal and financial reasons keep the tradition of marriage and give it incentives.

When I was in law school in the 80's I had moved from Florida to Boston to go to school. I remember having a feminist professor who taught the class that statistically men come out far ahead financially in divorce over women. If I recall she said men come out 20 percent wealthier. Ha! She honestly believed that. Seeing such an angry woman was a culture shock for me coming from Florida. Believe it or not, she was married to a MAN (It was the 80's however) I later divorced in my early 40s and it took me years to have anything. I left with nothing. Gave her the house, her 401K. My choice, so I can't complain but I did struggle for years.
Both of my sons are now married. Neither wife cooks at all. One is home all day with the children and after my son has worked all day they go out to eat basically every night because, after all, she has taken care of the kids all day.
I am a divorce lawyer and I can tell you that the young men who do get married who are in my office complain that they are expected to do everything but they are not allowed to have any expectations of their wives. Women today absolutely do not cook-none of them- and if you are really lucky the MIGHT clean. One positive note which is a result of the cultural changes is that most men are very involved with their children, even when born out of wedlock. OF course there is no shortage of women who try to run them off so they can be the single mother with the deadbeat dad. Its funny within certain nameless communities women actually seem to want that particular status. Last fun fact. Women rarely pay child support. First, they are rarely asked to pay anything if the man has custody. Most men say, "I don't want anything from her." Second, the women usually immediately have another kid having lost one to a father, and of course you can't put a mother in jail for non-support when she has a child at home.

We just have an understanding that women initiate 80% of the divorces and have the most to benefit from doing so.
We don't have any desire to engage in an activity that has a 50% chance of failure (divorce) and result in emotional and financial pain leading to physical distress.

I made that fatal mistake in getting married. My first marriage, her second.
She got the house and kids off her first hubby after the divorce and she always belittled the kid's father in front of them. This should have been a major wake-up call for me, but I loved her deeply.
After we married she confessed to cheating on her first husband, who is a good hard working guy. That was it then, I distanced myself from her and next argument I blurted it out that I wouldn't have married her if I knew she had cheated on her first husband, because people don't change. Not long after that she started an affair. Suprise surprise.
We are now separated and I have far more money, social freedom and three cars.

Once I got a divorce, I had too much money and had to open my first bank account. My life became less stressful due to lack of drama and worrying about how I am going to pay my rent and car payment and keep my woman happy. Now I can just pay cash for whatever I want. It is something that I really need to get over, but one main fear I have with women is the power they can have over me with just a simple act. She can physically and emotionally assault me, but the instant I raise my arms to defend myself, she will go into a state of victim-hood and cry crocodile tears to gain sympathy. Hit the nail on the head! As a 40y/o male, well educated, established, no children, six figure income, and takes care of himself. I often find myself being considered a catch by my female friends. Problem is, I've only found the women to reduce my quality of life. Constant nagging, lost freedom, couples obligations, compromising more than I normally would, unnecessary expenses, and always feeling exhausted trying to keep up with my needs and theirs. I finally hit a point in my life where I had to ask myself, why do I keep doing this? Especially when I could lose everything. Being 50, I've been divorced for 8 years after being married for 10 years. I will NEVER marry again. The idea that men are now lazy and immature is absolutely ridiculous at best. As for being responsible, I own my home (no more payments), own my car (no more payments) and just bought a nice truck with a huge down payment, along with being debt free. I have the ability to do carpentry, plumbing, electrical, car repairs, cook, bake, clean, built 4 monster PC's in the past 8 years, etc., etc., etc. So what does a woman bring to the table for ME??????? Since most women can't cook, just get fat, complain about every fucking thing they can think of, try to control you and the money, along with almost bankrupting your ass. Then in a divorce you get raped up the ass financially because the court system is so corrupt and one sided it isn't funny......I think I'll stay single thank you very much.

If I ever got married again (unlikely, because I am in exactly the position you are - paid off house and cars, debt free, etc.) I would do it like my cousin Mike. He told his wife up front that what he wanted was a stay at home wife to run the house and take care of the children - period.
He makes VERY good money on Wall Street (about $400,000/yr.), and puts 20% of his take home into an account for her. They have a prenup that says that money is all she gets if they divorce, other than child support. That's still a great deal for her, because they pay all their household expenses from his money, and she only has to touch hers for luxury items that she might want. So, she basically gets $80,000/yr. plus free food, housing, healthcare, and utilities for doing the job of running the house.
His expectation? After working long hours everyday, he is DONE when he gets home. He expects a clean house, healthy kids, and a hot meal, and no bitching.
When she did start complaining about him not helping enough around the house, driving the kids around, etc., he offered to cut her salary to $30,000 and split chores with her!

It's only crazy if you think that the court or the state cares about the welfare of the child. The judge doesn't care about the child. The states get money from the federal government when they enforce child support. They actually take money out of the Social Security general fund and transfer it to the state. It's a huge racket. Family court is very big business and it profits best by making the family miserable.

He could have travelled more, bought his favourite car, entered competitions, and possibly find an even better, hotter woman after he succeeded in attaining money, power and fame. And just go to the next hotter woman instead of being with the same one who is getting older and fatter. Plus the unavoidable responsibility of working for your kids instead of your own happiness. There's nothing more to it than that. Men are more flexible in the attraction pool than women. We become more attractive as we get older as long as we keep grinding. While women, do not. So don't get married, period. The deal in the end is worth every effort for all fellas.

for the most part I would agree but I'm a fairly intelligent fella and I decided to marry at age 48. She has 4 professional degrees and has a higher earning potential than me; I'm fine with that. Neither of us ever wanted kids. Regardless of any outcome, I'm in a good situation.

The fact you think cooking and cleaning is worth as much as a father going out and working everyday shows how deluded you are. It's not a good deal for men and it is stupid to take the risk. I am avoiding marriage for 3 main reasons. It's a waste of time, money and energy.

For the money part. You can avoid paying for the ceremony if both you and your wife agree to just not have one. That's the smart thing to do. If you don't pay for a ceremony you can use that money for anything else.
Never married. I keep drugs and alcohol out of my life. Stable job, make twice as much as the average person working only 3 days a week, paid house, no one else complaining or always trying to make happy, no debt, do what I want and when I want to, don’t have to worry about someone divorcing me and leaving me in financial ruin, don’t have to worry about being stuck forever because I’m tied down with a family that doesn’t appreciate me, no head games, don’t have to worry about children becoming brainwashed liberals as a result of screwed up school agendas or children confused about their gender identity or becoming obese, computer, opioid addict, atheists. I don’t need anything but my Christian faith,conservative values, healthy lifestyle and my cats to make me happy.

I shall comment as a female so you can see the thoughts. The video has really good points and makes sense. I'm in a happy de facto relationship with a male. He doesn't want to get married, so I have to respect that. If that is what it takes for him to be in my life for a very long time, I just have to accept it. I don't like his surname at all anyway... so I can't think of a reason to get married either. We can still vow to each other without the price tag attached. However I do have the pressure of parents who won't take our relationship seriously unless we wed, even though we have been living together for 3 years... Goats.

if men choose not to have stability by not working, how can they expect the system to change in their favour? Isn't trying to change the way they are looked at and change the way custody is awarded an incentive?
I worry that straight men are becoming irrelevant to society as they continue to withdraw. What do we need them for if they don't work, get educated, or procreate?
Why not prove the media wrong by getting educated, holding good jobs, and being great fathers? Why not prove that they have something to offer society? Why not think of everyone instead of only themselves? Isn't that an incentive?

As for children - That's life. Things happen and we all struggle. You cannot guarantee any child that their life will be without struggle. Struggling builds character and makes people who we are. You don't want to have a child because their life might not be perfect?
When you're young it's easy to go out and have sex with no strings attached. It gets harder as you get older and most women outgrow wanting hook-ups. Also it's nice to have someone when you are old and have a harder time taking care of yourself.
The truth is that not all women want to get married either.
I guess my biggest question is: What is the incentive for women to be with men at all in any way?
