I still refer to different parts of the story as Disc 1, Disc 2, etc., it sticks with you. :-)

As a lifetime Shenmue fan, may I just say on behalf of all of us - thank you Adam. To have you lead this crusade with intelligence, a sense of true comradery and most importantly modesty, has been a privilege to witness. You coalesced the thoughts, feelings and importance of Shenmue into something, we as a community, were proud to stand behind. A game undoubtedly ahead of its time, that embodied a beautiful balance of art and vision. The finest representation of art I have felt in my 28 years. I humbly say, “WE HAVE DONE IT”. What a time to be a Shenmue fan and to witness the unrelenting years of perseverance that have made the resurrection of Shenmue a reality. To celebrate the release I organised a Forklift race with my co-workers tomorrow morning at 5:30am before we start work. Winner will get a copy of Hang On on the Master System.
Adam Koralik It was an amazing day when I heard that Shenmue 3 was going to be in the works a few years ago, I'm a huge fan. I remember picking it up for the Dreamcast then picking it up again for the original Xbox years later. I was always surprised when I asked gamers if they've played Shenmue and all I would get was a confused look because they haven't heard of such a game. From the very beginning the story just drew me into the world of 80's Japan, who wouldn't want revenge on the person that just killed your father? Maybe the Dreamcast was a console that had too much technology for its time, people weren't ready for it. Shenmue was a game that was also introduced to gamers a little too early, there weren't any games like it, with a huge world where you can get a job, eat, drink, buy food, take care of a cat lol, talk to anyone you see, train using the new moves you just learned and of course the quick time sequences. If Shenmue was launched for the PS3 instead of the Dreamcast the game would have been 10 times as popular then what it is now and we would already be playing Shenmue 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 lol bummer.
The thing i love about our fan base is that over the years its only gotten bigger! i was a fan from 2001 and on! but its awesome to see how many fans developed between that time period to present! Social media/ the internet as a whole has a lot to do with getting the message out there to the devs that "YES we really REALLY want this to happen" now Shenmue 3 is a thing! it blew my mind when i first heard the news of that! Now i im walkin the streets of Dobuita and forklifting at the harbor on an Xbox one! which is surreal lol! I couldn't be happier! like you said its kinda a happy sad, the Dreamcast doesn't have its staple franchise as its own but, at least now it can be experienced again in a modern way and reach more people! Its amazing how the first Shenmue on Dreamcast had 3 discs. Now we just have one disc for both games.

This will be my first play through of Shenmue. I was watching Shenmuso live stream of it last night and for a 18 year old game it still looks stunning.

my local shop had them i didn't preorder but called had it held and ran down to grab first thing on release day the poster is going up at my workdesk to spread the word!

So I'm from the u.k and I'd just like to say thank you, to you and the shenmue community, you guys played a massive part on making all this happen. I played shenmue when I was 14 and to this day they are my fave games of all time. I'm 33 now and you could say I've been a quiet fan all this time. I wish I spoke up like you guys did. I backed the Kickstarter and there was no way I'd pass that up. My dreams came true when it was announced. Still found it hard to believe the announcement when it happened. I'd like to think I'm part of the community just never had the balls to speak up about my love for the game through the internet. I've told all my friends to play these games and once I go through them again I will pass my copy onto those, so they will experience a truly unique and amazing experience that is shenmue. Thanx again Adam. If you do read this I'd appreciate it if you did a shout out to chief (my nickname) on any new shenmue or dreamcast videos you do.

The music in Shenmue= Nostalgia! and dam it was and is good! Epic! the music before a fight and the transitioning music from fight to fight how it gets a little more intense! man just..... what a game series! we honestly wouldn't have the Yakuza series without Shenmue! definitely a spiritual successor to the series! because those games a really good as well! i always had that feeling of playing Shenmue while playing Yakuza games!

To be honest, I really never had much interest in playing Shenmue. But after hearing you talk about it I decided to pre order on Amazon and I got it today and I’m looking forward to giving it a try.
They're kind of objectively terrible, but had a certain charm to all the busywork etc, but they might be 'of their time'. Even when I was first playing them on the DC, i knew they were clunky and not really what you'd call much of a 'game' in any sense, but there was such a quality to the music and ridiculous characters etc that they kind of drew you in regardless. If you've never played one before, it could go either way I reckon.

Congrats! Now that Shenmue 1&2 finally got the HD port fans always wanted, its about time I say that Skies of Arcadia (preferably the Legends version) got the same treatment, lest it fall further and further into obscurity.
It was like yesterday, I got a dreamcast for Christmas and a copy of shenmue. Fell in love with the experience and thought I was the only one who knew the game was a masterpiece. This day was one of my dreams , that shenmue would get the popularity and recognition it deserved. So happy for Yu Suzuki

Great opportunity for younger generation to experience these masterpieces. amazingly I never finished 2. got hung up in the arcades in Hong Kong.lol definitely will have to finish 2 before 3 comes out.
I found my copy pretty easily, and I'm loving playing through the first part again! Really great game hands down. I'd say this is one of the best games I've ever played!

I still have my copies of Shenmue (DC), Shenmue 2 (EU DC & Xbox) and for the love of Shenmue I double dipped and bought it on the Xbox One as well. Wish Shenmue 3 was gonna be on Xbox but I do have a PS4 so I will get it there! I can't wait for next year to play Shenmue 3!
Did my part with the xbox version hopes for shenmue 3, got it physical and digitally. I will keep hoping about it, I wouldn't say it's my favorite game from my favorite console ever (dreamcast) but it's on my top 3, it's truly special.

Shenmue for life! Love the games or hate them, you can’t deny the care and craftsmanship that has gone into every aspect of those games (you can tell just by looking at the original Dreamcast packaging of Shenmue I and II. The cover art, the full color manuals, the disc art). Then there is the attention to detail and the amazing music and overall story. Shenmue is a franchise that deserved to sell at least five to ten million. The reason Call of Duty 502 is available today? Because not many publishers like to take chances anymore. I wish gamers would give new ideas and niche franchises a chance. Open your mind to a new kind of video game experience.
What I find amazing about Yu Suzuki, is that he was already a master of arcade game design; the kind of games that have to draw your attention quickly and provide gameplay you can pick up fast and enjoy repeatedly in small bursts.
He then creates Shenmue, a deep story based adventure with so many different choices and options for exploring and interacting with the game world (the likes of which hadn't really been seen before). It must really take something special to master those two very different worlds.
Yea, Shenmue was the polar opposite of all of his arcade hits.
No doubt Suzuki-san is an incredible visionary.

I have the original on Xbox. I picked this one up on Xbox One at GameStop after my PREORDER at Best Buy was out of stock. Went through hell and high water trying to find a copy and all while on crutches and a sprained knee, but my mission was accomplished by obtaining this game.

Kinda upsets me that none of my friends locally or online understands or have played this game. But at least I can come to this channel and express my hype. I bought a Dreamcast just for this game (at first, now I have quite the collection) and it was your UA-cam videos on this and others' videos that got me into the game. I am a HUGE Yu Suzuki fan as he made some of my all-time favorite arcade games under SEGA's AM2, and Shenmue instantly clicked with me. I am a hardcore Single player guy and the sheer amount of detail this game had amazed me. I literally spent 10 minutes with Shenmue 1's first scene in Ryo's bedroom JUST looking at things! Opening the drawers of his dresser, looking in his closet, finding the tapes in his desk, turning his desk lamp and ceiling light switch on and off! I LOVE that kind of detail!
I pre-ordered both the Steam and XBOX One releases. I too hope Shenmue 3 comes on XBOX One. If not, I got a 500GB SSD waiting for it's 100GB install lol.

As one of the dudes who played the originals on the Dreamcast, what it has been happening is truly amazing. SEGA is a dorment beast, they don't even realize the potential they still have.

Shenmue was a game on the dreamcast, ahead of its time. A classic masterpiece. I like a re release of zombie revenge and dynamite cop. Sega has a goldmine of IP's
The minute I heard this was out on PC, I immediately purchased it; I never had a copy on my dreamcast and DC emulation has always been wonky in my experience, I'm so glad I can finally play it!

The save transfer from 2-3 would be great if YSnet can do it. I really hope Sega and Yu can get into closer collaboration moving the series forward.

1999 was a long time ago, I was 11 years old and didnt even own the game..my friend did lol and I fell in love seeing him play it, it's soo so dope they 're released it and Shenmue 3 will come out..sure nobody envisioned this before..im so hyped
The fact SEGA released Shenmue I & II restored my hope in the future of humanity. Now please give us Skies of Arcadia HD.
I hope they do. Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia are the only two games from the Sega Dreamcast that I want to play. I got Shenmue 1 and 2 for PS4 but I dont want to buy a Dreamcast to play those games. Now I dont have to for Shenmue. I just hope Sega rereleases Skies of Arcadia too but with 1080p etc.
I had the same issue with Best Buy, ended up opting for it to be shipped, so I don't have it yet, but I did pre-order it, so I'm part of launch day sales still, lol. I went for the Xbone version simply because I'm not expecting save transfers to Shenmue III to be a thing, and the Xbone controller is more similar to Dreamcast. Although I do have the luxury of have a PS4 as well, and backed the Kickstarter for Shenmue III for a physical copy. But who knows for Xbone fans, since the collection and 3 are on PC, maybe through the cloud or something you can transfer the save. The Telltale Walking Dead games made a special service to allow transfers from last gen to current gen, so I'd say nothing is off the table.
As I've followed you through the years, we've been on the same page about Shenmue (although I do think 2 is the better game, lol), but nothing really ever surprised me about what you had to say about it, since I kept up with it all too...until today, lol. I hadn't the slightest clue about the music! Also, I didn't hear about Yu Suzuki saying 5 games would be ideal, but I did know that a 4th would at least be done. This was such an awesome coming together of fans, and the curious who wanted to experience this, it's amazing! I'm hoping for more things of the era that haven't gotten rereleases to modern consoles to get another chance, particularly Saturn stuff, and some Dreamcast with HD and widescreen support. Skies of Arcadia HD? Or, a real shot in the dark, a full Panzer Dragoon Saga remake. Crazy things seem to be happening lately. I'm excited for the HD ports of Grandia too!

I know this is somewhat unrelated but I find it interesting that both Shenmue and Xenosaga were envisioned to be 7 part series or "sagas", but both had to be cut down due to sales/publisher issues, and both were developed at similar times. (Which is what led Monolithsoft to leave Namco and join Nintendo)

everything is great except for the clunky controls but I'll get used to it.
Sometimes i wonder why Sega still doesn't know how much their IPs besides Sonic are loved.
It really tells something about the company. The only franchise they know people love is Sonic, yet they keep treating that IP like shit, Sonic Mania ofcourse being an exception, but that is a fan made passion project.
I don't know if I have ever heard someone speak so poetically about a game before. A thing of beauty right there.
