Thank you everyone including Adam for supporting the shenmue 3 kickstarter and now Yu Suzuki one of my favorite developers of all time can finally continue the story of shenmue!!!
Sony helps with the advertisement, publication and marketing as you said. Think about it this way people: Shenmue III Kickstarter announced online. Big news. Shenmue III Kickstarter announced VIA SONY. Freaking huge. That alone was a huge boost to the kickstarter, I have no doubt.
GeekLegion Also people need to realize. Sony started a dedicated third party relations team, ran by Adam Boyes. That team EXISTS to make gamers happy. Everyone has been wanting Yakuza, Dragon Quests, FF7, freaking Shenmue III. They are hitting the games people are asking. My opinion, no one should be annoyed that Sony is trying to get/help these games. For once, we know a game company ACTUALLY WILL LISTEN TO US. Instead of companies passing on games that we want, Sony is actually listening. They are giving Suzuki full creative freedom without the burden of marketing/advertising. What is the problem with this?
AdamKoralik man, I'm happy for you,all of shenmue fans. It's dream come true for gamers this year. I didn't play any shenmue game. But I think I will buy a copy when it come out.
I never played Shenmue 1 or 2, nor have even been interested in them, but I supported the Kickstarter anyway. I did it because I saw the passion from people like you, Adam, for this game. I am happy to help your cause, even if it's not mine as well. And who knows, maybe after playing Shenmue 3, I'll become a fan!
I'm a big fan Adam, never played either game, but pledged for the PS4 copy, which I don't even own, to support you and your dream. Thanks for your videos
I question the ethics of MANY gaming news channels that I previously didn't. Nearly every gaming news channels reported it was a Sony game that will use Kickstarter to test if people want it. Almost none of them retracted their previous statements. ReviewTechUSA made a video that was like a half an hour long talking about it... Still waiting on those retractions...
John Doe Remember he claimed the XBOne and PS4 networks supposedly were in peril at launch and that's why games would be 720p? It was hilarious to see a Sony executive call him stupid though.
I'm glad I subscribed to you when I did. I didn't know much about this game, even now. Haven't played the first two either but I've pledged and I will definitely be playing the first 2.
I will say this, thank you for bringing up TJ&E4. I love TJ&E probably as much as you love Shenmue and I hate that it keeps getting forgotten. All this talk about Mighty #9 and Bloodstained and Shenmue, all will huge kickstarter goals(relatively). TJ&E4 had a $400,000 goal, and it was a photo finish! I'm backing Shenmue 3 because I back passion and love for the art, I've never even played 1 or 2.
While you may act a little too euphoric to some (I dunno how others feel about your reactions except from what we can read here), I guess you're right with the whole thing and that people should be really grateful for SEGA and Sony kinda helping the development of this gaming historical milestone that really is about as much as a legend as say _MegaMan Legends 3_ and _Half-Life 3_ (both games that we'll probably never see either). Luckily the KS still goes on for about two days, I haven't yet found a place to pick up a prepaid credit card (unfortunately the only way for me to support kickstarters) but hope to get one at our local gas stations. If not I really really hope that YsNet will just like Comcept for MN9 allow PayPal at some point.
you brought up some vital points and gave an enlightening perspective. the bad press has certainly hurt the KS, imagine if all those reports and vloggers had been telling their audience 'this is a triumph of fan passion, this is a rare example of big corporations not being dicks, this is unprecedented in the entertainment world..' etc etc.. the effect of the wider gaming community being motivated to put a small pledge down, like $5, would be far more significant than the small pool of devoted fans all emptying their wallets in desperation. so that wide coverage of negative and false reporting may have swayed those on the fence or who weren't already passionate for the game. but we've done ok, considering. tho i am surprised by the low number of backers, it seemed like the whole world celebrated the announcement..
Congrats Adam! This video is currently like the third result when searching Shenmue 3 Kickstarter! You're going to make a difference with the knuckleheads!
Your passion for this series is a big reason why I contributed my $60. Seemed like too great a moment to let slip by. Luckily, I have plenty of time before this gets released to go and see what I've been missing.
AdamKoralik Hi Adam. The Kickastarter is just 4 hours to go. I have to say just one thing: I never had Dreamacast or Xbox. I never played Shenmue but thanks to your videos I've pleged today :)
You probably won't remember this (I'd be surprised if you did) but a while ago I commented on a video asking you how to fix my Dreamcast, essentialy. You gave me some advice, I tried to fix it but it didn't help it so I eventually accepted that my old Dreamcast was completely beyond repair. About a week ago, I FINALLY got round to buying a new Dreamcast and decided to play my copy of Shenmue that I bought back in February. I have been playing it for 2 days and I've literally just started the 3rd disc and I absolutely love the game so far and I'm more keen than ever to play Shenmue 2 and, of course, Shenmue 3. I want to thank you for making the videos that encouraged me to play the game for myself and I can now say I am beginning to understand why this game has a cult following and why it has such dedicated fans. Once again, thank you Adam :)
Thank you for that thorough explanation, Adam. I have to admit, I was one of those detractors saying that Sony should have played for the whole thing. But now after your explanation, I understand the situation so much better. Thanks a lot.
Preeeeeach Brother! What can we do to REALLY spread the word in these last moments? I know people who have wanted it for years and then have said to my face "I'll just get it when it comes out." So many people are infected with this negative nonsense. Fuck forbes for their BS article they wrote. It's really frustrating. I considered making a similar video, but I just started this channel so doesn't have much of an audience yet. Adam, I really appreciate you speaking about this. Seriously, it means a lot to me.
I finally pledged today after watching this video. I beat Shenmue 1, but not 2. The series didn't change my life, so that's why I didn't jump into pledging right away, but your point about helping fund the development appealed to me, instead of waiting for it to show up on Best Buy or whatever. I went for the physical PS4 reward because I think it will at least be a great game, if not life-changing.
It's not much to reach the next tier goal--and I probably won't get into Shenmue anytime soon, if ever, since there are so many games to catch up on, new and old--but I pledged something to support Shenmue 3. And I gave them something not simply based on the history of the game's name, its legacy or my personal interest, but because of the fans' devotion and your amount of dedication to see one of your favorite series get its proper conclusion of a story. I can respect all types of gamers, and I enjoy seeing any dream, however dim or seemingly impossible at first, come to be. Hell, maybe we'll get that Air World competition and the final conclusion of Swordquest some day.
I pledged the 60 dollars Adam, I did my part and one of my latest videos I explain how I've never experienced the games before. I really want a collection of 1 and 2 to experience them!
YS should have hired Adam as part of the PR campaign. No joke its sad when fans can give the true 411 better than the Kickstarter campaign group he hired. *Edit: By the time I finished watching this Shenmue hit 5 million =p*
From what I read on some sites, is that the phisical copy of the game will only be Kisckstarter exclusive. After that the game will be a digital exclusive.
I just saw this because I haven't had a console for a while but...the 2 of the best games I ever played. Who the HELL doesn't like it? It was more emotionally involved than my entire high school life was....
Hi Adam, I pledged $60 (£38) for a PS4 physical copy but as of yet, I do not own a PS4 but like you said. The game is not due for release for a while and in that time the console will become cheaper. I also feel that a KS copy of the game will hold its value and more than likely, increase over time. Thanks.
I certainly hope that there is or will be another party involved in financing the project. Sony covering the marketing part is also quite significant. If I remember correctly two thirds of the Destiny trilogy's budget are used on marketing. Having these costs covered makes it a lot easier for other parties to join the project.
im about 8 hours into shenmue at the moment and im totaly hooked, got shenmue 2 waiting to go when im done with this im going to go and pledge to the kickstarter now :)
Hey adam just thinking about this but depending on final Kickstarter numbers it's going to be really interesting calculating the per unit cost of console exclusivity Sony is willing to put out.
Great Video. I pledged, The guy made a open world game, with great graphics, weather, and RPG stuff in 1999, just amazing. Also I enjoyed his games when I was young. Hang On, Out Run and the incredible Space Harrier. He deserves money to make a great Shenmue 3.
I see you are a great fan of Shenmue. Im reading the kickstarter comments. I think you need to make some video as the kickstarter ends and YU is on Twitch getting his kickstarter record, it would be fun.
I love how people are also trying to downplay Sony's E3 Press Conference by saying that the two biggest announcements : Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Shenmue 3, are timed exclusives. I'm like : You do realize that Shenmue 3's marketing, porting from PC to PS4, and the Physical Edition is being funded by Sony, right? It's basically exclusive to the PS4 console and PC only. And isn't Xbox using Tomb Raider as a timed exclusive? I'd say Final Fantasy 7 is a better timed exclusive, especially since it started as a PS exclusive.
The Angry Little Alchemist I don't know why people think Shenmue is going to be a timed exclusive, I can understand FF7 though. I personally thought the Xbox One press conference was better and had a lot more that I was interested in, but I don't know why people would need to downplay the Sony one.
llpalm08 Because they're Xbox Fanboys. I am actually more of an Xbox Fan as I played the 360 all last gen, but now that I own a PS4 and saw Sony's E3 I'm starting to like Sony. I'm just "waiting for greatness" if you know what I mean ;D(bloodborne and 3rd parties not included)
The Angry Little Alchemist The good thing about Sony is they have never made a bad console, and the fact that as a company they aren't doing that well (Nintendo are worth more than the whole of Sony) means they needed to make a really good console. I personally went for the Xbox One instead of the PS4 mainly because of Forza but I will get a PS4 once it gets down to probably about £200 simply because it is such a good console.
llpalm08 I'd say 300$ is a fair price for a PS4, but to each their own. Personally, I don't like the direction Microsoft is heading with Halo or Gears of War, and those were the games that got me into hardcore gaming(I got into them in 2011, when i was ............11. I don't like Halo 4 or Judgement though, and I think Halo 5 and Gears of War 4 look better, but not good enough for a console purchase).
The Angry Little Alchemist $300 is about £200, we are being massively overcharged for the consoles in the UK since they are £350 for a standard console which is about $500. I never really got into those series personally, I played Halo 3 quite a bit with my mates but not much of the other Halo games. If the PS4 gets backwards compatibility then ill buy one as soon as I can since I never had a PS3, but until then I don't want to spend too much on something I wont use a huge amount. I did really enjoy the PS and PS2 back when I was a kid though so I do want to get back into enjoying their consoles again.
thanks for clearing this up! i havent even gotten my ps4 yet (xbox one so far). but i just pledged my 60$ thanks again because all of this was waaaay too unclear before.
It suck that I'm broke because I want to support this game. Hell I don't have a PS4 to play it on currently and played Shenmue 1 and 2 but I want this experience just like everyone else passionate about this series. Regardless of interest in video games I would still support it (by the way I'll get into video game collecting in the future thanks in part to you Adam)
Well, I have recieved the confirmation that they have collected my pledge from my bank now. Even the final confirmation email was an event, for me. Wonderful, we just have to sit back now and let Suzuki and his team do their magic. Shenmue 3 kickstarter, a seminal moment in gaming history.
Just pledged the $60.00 PS4 option based on your point at 3:55. I'm buying this game no matter what so why not support development 100%. Awesome video Adam. Thanks man.
Kickstarter is the best way to go for this. And video games in general. This needs to be the future of gaming. Since the big companies obviously don't give a shit anymore.
Nunoski Orange Come on, imagine Gabe would actually be as crazy to found the game via KS (just imagine, we all know Valve has enough money itself). The game probably would be funded even faster than ShenmueIII.
Nunoski Orange I tell you what the problem in Gabe's eyes is. He knows what happens when a game experiences too much freaking hype, and he probably also remembers what did happen to _Duke Nukem Forever_ after so many years. Now, ShenmueIII might be a highly awaited game for fans but is still a total underdog in comparison, much like the series in general. The creator wanted to give something to the fans, for Valve however, it's still a risk because so many people ask for HL3. Capcom on the other hand was shit scared of making a money loss when canceling DASH3 and Konami just went nuts with their mobile strategy. So yea... it'd be awesome to see HL3 one day as well, heck, I started playing the Dreamcast version of HL1 a few days ago just for the lulz... but at this point, they probably still think of too much worries. Also Valve isn't the biggest developer, I suppose they're totally behind their own VR glasses, those so called Steam Machines (which are basically standard x86 computers with a Debian Stable based distribution called SteamOS) and possibly also still TF2, so they haven't even the manpower to produce HL3 at this point.
hey adam I'm a big fan of yours and Shenmue!!! however there was a mistake in your newest shenmue video. Sega dose not own the IP for toejam and earl. they own the games toejam and earl 1,2,and 3. Greg johnson and john voorsanger under the name toejam and earl productions and more recently , human nature studios own the characters toejam and earl and the IP associated with it SEGA dose not own toejam and earl that's why they were not in sonic and sega all stars racing. if you have the time it would be cool if you could make a small annotation in your video correcting it. your shenmue videos are 100% honest and accurate and I would hate to see a mistake in one of them. thanks for all your videos they are great!!!!
It's interesting to hear you mention your love of film. As a fellow filmophile, I was wondering if you plan on uploading more short films? Or maybe a channel discussing movie news/reviews/etc.?
superdawggiedawg I may post more shorts. People didn't seem to give a crap about them, so I stopped. I have a channel called AdamKTrailers that has some of my old movie reviews and mashup videos.
I agree with everything. I think sony not only gets exclusivity. It gets also more strength in Japan and Asia where they are not selling as much as in other places. Still, great that they are helping.
I was one of the first involved in the Shenmue 3 initiative. At one point, I even thought I was one of the very few fans of the series. However, as much as I want to support it and pledge, I have one gripe. I own a PS Vita. I have held out of purchasing a PS4 due to many reservations about the system, and given how they have treated Indie game in general. I asked the developers on the website if there would be a download available for the PS Vita, and go no response. I don't see why the Vita wouldn't get a copy hands down, when that has become on of the main platforms for kickstarters.
Yeah I was upset about that. I'm not totally against the PS4. It just seems weird for the game to be put on PSN and available only for the PS4 platform, which seems to usually snub Indie projects like this. It should be universally accessible.
jokatech Bloodborne got more than 93 on Metacritic, same with The Last of Us, while the XOne never had something like that, or something like the PS4 owning 70% of the european console market or being the most best selling console platform for Ubisoft. You can check all of that on Google :) poor Shitbox One, always failing like the original Xbox.
Finozzi96 lol. I definitely lean towards Sony over the past decade hands down. I'm glad that they, of all consoles are the ones to get the release. I just wish that the "trash" could have been left to the dogs, even if it happens to be a shiny piece of "trash" if you catch my drift. But, depending on how compatible it will be, I'd like to get the PC version if I can.
After all the stuff that happened this month with doctor bills, buying medicine, and such. I had to back off some of my pledge to $80.. Just happy that this is happening.
AdamKoralik I'm trying to figure out how they are going to stretch the $4M in game development costs to make the game in the image Yu Suzuki wants. We didn't meet the stretch goals for the expansions for the other 2 village's. I can't help but think how adding a PayPal option during the kick starter would have helped.. Even after the kickstarter. We could probably squeeze another 500k in PayPal in 2 years time..
Great video i hope shenmue reaches its full potential i will definitely pick it up now that its gettings a physical release Great video adam from soap and cliffs mom have a nice day
I only hope that the game actually ends up being made and that the Shenmue Kickstarter doesn't get cancelled. So many popular Kickstarters have been plagued with promises up the ass when in the end their project never even ends up seeing the light of day, like that giant scam that was the Yogscast video game. Or sometimes if they do end up being completed, it's this mediocre product. I hope to god that the Shenmue 3 project is the real deal! The Kickstarter community needs a proper role model!
I honestly can't give money to a BIG "what-if" kind of thing. I'm not a die hard fan of the serious like most of you guys so I'm not having my judgement clouded. When I see actual development and an actual release, then they can have my money.
JJop123 That's why I don't understand religious people. Jesus said if you eat pork you will fucking die a horrible death!!! The great books is the word of god but there is no proof. The bible is the first pre-order! lol
Asado This is different. Shenmue 3 is being developed entirely around PC and then being ported by SONY THEMSELVES. Batman was developed around the Playstation 4 and Xbox One then the port for PC was outsourced.
I love Shenmue but let's look objectively at the facts for a moment... Shenmue 3 is in the same position as EarthBound was before its re-release. It's an underdog game that very few people actually bought and it never made a profit, yet the vocal minority (me included, for Shenmue and not for EarthBound I might add) screamed loud enough and long enough to make it happen. Sony or Sega won't pay for the entire thing simply because they don't think it'll make a profit. I don't think so either. And that's why this Kickstarter campaign is the best option we have. Plus, it gives Yu Suzuki complete freedom to do what he wants with the game and I sure as shit trust him more than I trust Sony or Sega.
Great video. Respect to SEGA for allowing Suzuki to continue the series. IP squatting is something I absolutely loath and SEGA deserve nothing but praise for as you put it not being dicks.
AdamKoralik Didn't know that the trailer actually said "For 14 years, shenmue's story was left incomplete", but everyone's stream lagged and only said "shenmue's story was left incomplete". I think its actually better that way, I don't think anyone expected it.
You made a small mistake about Toejam and Earl. When Sega originally worked on TJ&E back in the Genesis days, they made a deal with TJ&E Productions which allowed them to own their IP but it was a Sega exclusive pseudo first party title. Sega doesn't own the TJ&E IP, Greg Johnson and Mark Voorsanger do.
I agree with you 100% Glad you got the truth out there so people can fully grasp and understand what's going. It's sad you can search shenmue 3 and you see all these major names talking bad things about Sony I mean literally writing full articles about why you shouldn't support shenmue kick starter for the way it was presented to the public and I just disagree with them It's so ironic people bad mouth this but like you said Supports other titles and have nothing bad to say
As a fan I don't want to look at it through rose tinted glasses. But it drives me crazy to hear people say like metaljesusrocks that this is a no brainer that doesn't need to kickstarted. If that was the case the game would've been several years ago. The reality is yes this game has gotten praise critically, but it wasn't a financial success. It does irritate me to see people bash this kickstarter but praise might no. 9 and bloodstained.
You have just conviced me to pledge $80, for a physical PS4 copy, with the in-game phone card thingy. Ive never played Shenmue as ive never owned a Dreamcast, but it has always interested me. I didnt get an original xbox until last summer so havent played the sequel yet either. But those can still be found, in case you need to play these in chronological order to enjoy them the most. And i just had to get the physical, as with you, i stay away from digital as much as possible.
They should be able to make the game with over $5 million, they use a free engine so no development costs goes there. I will buy the game when it get's released in the stores. It still early days, so it will be exciting to watch the progress of the game.
I wasn't going to but you made very great points I'm in just pledged for my ps4 copy.. Now I need a new Dreamcast since mine literally died last night while I was replaying Shenmue 1
Adam. I appreciate your view on this, but I kinda feel like your views are bias. I don't blame you since its your favorite series. I also feel like a lot your information is hopeful thinking. This is a kickstarter and past kickstarters have shown me a lot.
truiz123 Just to add a little more info on my stance. I love Shenmue. I'm just not going to say a bunch of words or hopeful thinking about this game/kickstarter when we have no clue on how its going to turn out. Hopefully it blows my expectations, but past kickstarters have shown different results in my eyes.
I know I'm going to sound like a fanboy by saying this, but honestly I don't have much of a history with Sony. I have a PS4, and have since December 2013, but It's basically just collecting dust. Anyways, I have to give Sony a huge congrats for marketing Shenmue 3, paying for the port from PC to PS4, and for paying for the Physical Edition. Great job Playstation! It's nice to see a corporation do something nice(even if it is just for positive PR) ;D
The Angry Little Alchemist Bloodborne got more than 93 on Metacritic, same with The Last of Us, while the XOne never had something like that, or something like the PS4 owning 70% of the european console market or being the most best selling console platform for Ubisoft. You can check all of that on Google :) poor Shitbox One, always failing like the original Xbox.
Finozzi96 Ya. I'm not saying that PS4 is bad, I like i and honestly I've been playing it a lot this year. I mainly meant exclusives. I love Bloodborne as I'm a huge Souls fan. I consider The Last of Us a bit overrated, and it's on PS3, but I understand your point.
I have tried hard to give out facts on websites and youtube videos about shenmue 3, but it feels like headbutting a wall. Won't stop me however, i will do my best till the end of this kickstarter.
So I pledged for the PS4 hardcopy AdamKoralik I was going to be one of the ones to wait and just pick it up in the store, but, figured, what the heck. I never played 1 or 2 though. Hope they have something that will help you understand the story I will be missing.
Adam, how good of a Shenmue 3 game are we going to get with 5M? Do you believe that the Yakuza Series is the closest to the Shenmue series? Do you think Shenmue 3 is going to be a lot like Yakuza?
True say. Peeps don't seem to realise that only about half the budget of a game goes towards actual development. Without Sony's help we'd be looking at a Shenmue III game comprised solely of QTEs with text-only dialogue.
There is about 90% chance that you will be able to play the PC version of Shenmue on your Xbox One in the very near future when Live becomes a cross-platform service which would see the Bone becoming much like a Steam Machine or Shield.
ZamboniElite Bloodborne got more than 93 on Metacritic, same with The Last of Us, while the XOne never had something like that, or something like the PS4 owning 70% of the european console market or being the most best selling console platform for Ubisoft. You can check all of that on Google :) poor Shitbox One, always failing like the original Xbox.
Yeah sega definitely didnt have to do what they did the only reason they let him use the ip is because he saved them during the arcade wars and the only blemish on his record as far as profit margins was is shenmue at least sega let him have that
This Kickstarter gives me hope that one day, we may get a Tomba! 3. I bet I'm the only "Mega Fan" of the discontinued Tomba! series.
ChunkyBunny2 Tomba was amazing.
ChunkyBunny2 It's more possible than it used to be.
shenmue 3 gives me hope that someday we'll get a sequel to skies of arcadia.
Joshua Oxenford It's much more possible now than it was last month, that's for damn sure.
Great video!
HappyConsoleGamer Thank you sir.
Thank you everyone including Adam for supporting the shenmue 3 kickstarter and now Yu Suzuki one of my favorite developers of all time can finally continue the story of shenmue!!!
I am thankful to you Adam for keeping shenmue on the map!
hellos mes My pleasure.
Sony helps with the advertisement, publication and marketing as you said.
Think about it this way people:
Shenmue III Kickstarter announced online.
Adam, PLEASE make a new video about our incredible victory with the kickstarter!
***** Goes live in just over 12 hours. :D
2 AND A HALF DAYS LEFT, PEOPLE! THE TIME TO PLEDGE IS NOW!
GarretSlarrity Thanks dude!
AdamKoralik The pleasure is all mine.
0_o Xearrik Gaming Channel In fairness, some....some of them did. But yeah, most didn't.
0_o Xearrik Gaming Channel Don't expect Rich to retract it. He has said so much untrue crap in the past and never came back on 99% of that.
Gabriel Jovel Thanks man!
I have never played a shenmue game, but I feel all your passion towards this game
This video caught me at the last moment and reminded me to pledge for the physical PS4 copy. Thanks Adam! ^^
Brooke-chan Thanks for the support!
John Losacco No problem dude.
Thanks for doing that!
If not I really really hope that YsNet will just like Comcept for MN9 allow PayPal at some point.
you brought up some vital points and gave an enlightening perspective. the bad press has certainly hurt the KS, imagine if all those reports and vloggers had been telling their audience 'this is a triumph of fan passion, this is a rare example of big corporations not being dicks, this is unprecedented in the entertainment world..' etc etc..
the effect of the wider gaming community being motivated to put a small pledge down, like $5, would be far more significant than the small pool of devoted fans all emptying their wallets in desperation. so that wide coverage of negative and false reporting may have swayed those on the fence or who weren't already passionate for the game.
but we've done ok, considering. tho i am surprised by the low number of backers, it seemed like the whole world celebrated the announcement..
shenmueso At least we've reached five million. Character perspective system, here we come.
so happy about that. i do hope he keeps funding open and opens paypal afterwards tho, i'd love to see those improvements to the battle engine..
shenmueso I agree.
Nice explanation about everything surrounding the Shenmue 3 KickStarter.
PlayLifeX Thanks for watching!
Congrats Adam! This video is currently like the third result when searching Shenmue 3 Kickstarter! You're going to make a difference with the knuckleheads!
Neet Boss Here's hoping.
Your passion for this series is a big reason why I contributed my $60. Seemed like too great a moment to let slip by. Luckily, I have plenty of time before this gets released to go and see what I've been missing.
Joao M Thanks for doing that!
AdamKoralik Hi Adam. The Kickastarter is just 4 hours to go. I have to say just one thing: I never had Dreamacast or Xbox. I never played Shenmue but thanks to your videos I've pleged today :)
Thank you for saying it like it is! How I wish people would get informed before regurgitating hate just for the sake of it.
Ernesto Mántaras Thanks for watching.
No problem! I've learned a lot through your videos, from how to clean many of the consoles I have to videogame history. You rock!
Ernesto Mántaras
Ross Pitcairn Awesome dude, congratulations on getting a new Dreamcast.
Keep the old one for parts.
Glad you like Shenmue!
Thank you for that thorough explanation, Adam. I have to admit, I was one of those detractors saying that Sony should have played for the whole thing. But now after your explanation, I understand the situation so much better. Thanks a lot.
Mo Esquire No problem dude.
i love to see how dedicated you are to this project :)
Vadu1337 Shenmue is powerful, what can I say. :D
I went for the physical PS4 reward because I think it will at least be a great game, if not life-changing.
themblan Thanks for doing that.
Brian Colfxire Thanks for helping out!
I pledged the 60 dollars Adam, I did my part and one of my latest videos I explain how I've never experienced the games before. I really want a collection of 1 and 2 to experience them!
Double thumbs up for this video and clearing up rumors.
heavyset0223 Thanks.
YS should have hired Adam as part of the PR campaign. No joke its sad when fans can give the true 411 better than the Kickstarter campaign group he hired.
*Edit: By the time I finished watching this Shenmue hit 5 million =p*
Stringer Bell I wish they had asked, but they didn't.
From what I read on some sites, is that the phisical copy of the game will only be Kisckstarter exclusive. After that the game will be a digital exclusive.
I just saw this because I haven't had a console for a while but...the 2 of the best games I ever played. Who the HELL doesn't like it? It was more emotionally involved than my entire high school life was....
i cant wait for you to hit 100k subs
gaming with taylor If that happens, that'll be cool.
F0bius Exactly.
im about 8 hours into shenmue at the moment and im totaly hooked, got shenmue 2 waiting to go when im done with this
im going to go and pledge to the kickstarter now :)
***** Thanks for doing that!
A beautifully crafted video Adam. Sadly, I'm sure many people will still rant and rave though. You've certainly provided great qualtative info.
claygraphic1 Thanks.
I can't wait!! Super excited!!
Jorge Echevarría Thanks for watching!
I personally thought the Xbox One press conference was better and had a lot more that I was interested in, but I don't know why people would need to downplay the Sony one.
llpalm08
Because they're Xbox Fanboys.
I personally went for the Xbox One instead of the PS4 mainly because of Forza but I will get a PS4 once it gets down to probably about £200 simply because it is such a good console.
llpalm08
I'd say 300$ is a fair price for a PS4, but to each their own.
Chase Danson Thanks for doing that, and thank you for watching.
Kevin Ly Glad I could help. :D
Well, I have recieved the confirmation that they have collected my pledge from my bank now. Even the final confirmation email was an event, for me. Wonderful, we just have to sit back now and let Suzuki and his team do their magic. Shenmue 3 kickstarter, a seminal moment in gaming history.
Sturmwind Hell yeah man.
Just pledged the $60.00 PS4 option based on your point at 3:55. I'm buying this game no matter what so why not support development 100%. Awesome video Adam. Thanks man.
MasaCheez Thanks for doing that.
Kickstarter is the best way to go for this. And video games in general. This needs to be the future of gaming. Since the big companies obviously don't give a shit anymore.
Now let's make Half-Life 3.
Nunoski Orange Imagine the thing would also get backed.
An hour? Two?
***** What do you mean?
Nunoski Orange Come on, imagine Gabe would actually be as crazy to found the game via KS (just imagine, we all know Valve has enough money itself).
The game probably would be funded even faster than ShenmueIII.
***** I know. But if Shenmue III is gonna be a game, why not Half-Life 3 also?
Greg johnson and john voorsanger under the name toejam and earl productions and more recently , human nature studios own the characters toejam and earl and the IP associated with it SEGA dose not own toejam and earl that's why they were not in
sonic and sega all stars racing.
if you have the time it would be cool if you could make a small annotation in your video correcting it.
your shenmue videos are 100% honest and accurate and I would hate to see a mistake in one of them.
thanks for all your videos they are great!!!!
I bought shenmue 2 on the original Xbox!!!
If shenmue 3 was exclusive on the Wii U or Xbox one I still would have bought it because I'm a die hard shenmue fan just saying!!!
The last time I played shenmue 2 was back in 2003!!!
I pledged $300. I'm going to frame that signed illustration by Yu Suzuki.
Blast Mode Processing FX 7 Thanks for supporting the cause!
This is gonna be EPIC
I already pledged and I'm getting the PC version. Can't wait to run the game in the highest settings and see the world of Shenmue in 1440p 60fps.
Indy The Great Awesome!
Indy The Great Ha, I see what you tried to do there.
TheAgentOfTheSystem I don't.
Indy The Great Yes you do. :)
Very well put. Couldn't agree more
is that a fact Thanks for watching!
I don't see why the Vita wouldn't get a copy hands down, when that has become on of the main platforms for kickstarters.
jokatech Sad to say it man, but the Vita is dead. Sony didn't even acknowledge it at E3.
I love you Adam.
Synthetic Pulse
Pledged for the physical copy. Now lets hope this game is actually good.
***** Agreed.
After all the stuff that happened this month with doctor bills, buying medicine, and such. I had to back off some of my pledge to $80..
Just happy that this is happening.
Austin Ellis Totally understandable, real life > simulated life.
But thank you for still being part of it.
Great video i hope shenmue reaches its full potential i will definitely pick it up now that its gettings a physical release
Great video adam from soap and cliffs mom have a nice day
soap dropper Thanks!
Me and cliff really appreciate it
I only hope that the game actually ends up being made and that the Shenmue Kickstarter doesn't get cancelled.
Hey Adam! You know what I heard? Shovel knight is also getting a physical release soon. Such a good game please go out and buy it.
Masterbomb Yep, I pre-ordered it for the Wii U.
I have already asked Adam that and he said he is very happy about it.
The bible is the first pre-order! lol
SuperDashRendar more like a terrible PC port...
Asado this is no place to talk about Batman lol.
SuperDashRendar AHAHAH Exactly what I had in mind lol
Asado
This is different. Shenmue 3 is being developed entirely around PC and then being ported by SONY THEMSELVES. Batman was developed around the Playstation 4 and Xbox One then the port for PC was outsourced.
I wish the amount used for the subtitles stretch goals would instead be used on more important stuff like battle system expansion and a.i
Lbleize Just a warning, I think a lot of people in non-English speaking countries would find that statement pretty offensive to be honest.
Ulfhedn4r - Fakebit Music ^ This.
Great video.
Respect to SEGA for allowing Suzuki to continue the series.
IP squatting is something I absolutely loath and SEGA deserve nothing but praise for as you put it not being dicks.
Troika19 Thanks.
AdamKoralik Didn't know that the trailer actually said "For 14 years, shenmue's story was left incomplete", but everyone's stream lagged and only said "shenmue's story was left incomplete". I think its actually better that way, I don't think anyone expected it.
Now all I need is streets of rage 4 kick started
6 millions reached~!
I already bought my copy... It would be nice to have the whole thing compete though...
This does give me hope that someday there will be a Half-Life 3
this is my first time giving to a kickstarter i have pledged for a ps4 disc game.
I agree with you 100%
Glad you got the truth out there so people can fully grasp and understand what's going.
It's sad you can search shenmue 3 and you see all these major names talking bad things about Sony
I mean literally writing full articles about why you shouldn't support shenmue kick starter for the way it was presented to the public and I just disagree with them
It's so ironic people bad mouth this but like you said
Supports other titles and have nothing bad to say
Demetrius Mitchell Yep, sad trend. Oh well.
Thank you Adam
Manuel Santiago Thanks for watching.
Hopefully we can get a remaster of Shenmue 1 + 2 for modern platforms! That would be awesome
Scotsman707 Agreed.
It reached $6 millions. I am getting the physical PS4 version if I am still around, for I am old and sick. Thanks for this video.
orestesdd Thanks for watching!
Rigo Contreras This times a thousand.
And i just had to get the physical, as with you, i stay away from digital as much as possible.
grimmah1978 Thanks for doing that dude.
They should be able to make the game with over $5 million, they use a free engine so no development costs goes there. I will buy the game when it get's released in the stores. It still early days, so it will be exciting to watch the progress of the game.
I'm buying shenmue 3 on (PS4) greatness awaits!!!!
tstrangles513 Thanks for the support!
I wasn't going to but you made very great points I'm in just pledged for my ps4 copy.. Now I need a new Dreamcast since mine literally died last night while I was replaying Shenmue 1
Jeremiah Mills Thanks for watching, and for the support.
Adam the reason why people are bashing the shenmue 3 kickstarter because it's not coming to Xbox one or Wii U!!!
tstrangles513 That's only one of the reasons.
Hopefully it blows my expectations, but past kickstarters have shown different results in my eyes.
truiz123 How so? I supported Mighty No 9 and Bloodstained. Admittedly, I didn't back Toe Jame and Earl or Yuka-Lalee though.
Finozzi96
Ya.
Won't stop me however, i will do my best till the end of this kickstarter.
plasticrat123 Me too.
So I pledged for the PS4 hardcopy AdamKoralik
I was going to be one of the ones to wait and just pick it up in the store, but, figured, what the heck. I never played 1 or 2 though. Hope they have something that will help you understand the story I will be missing.
I've watched you and reviewtech for a while know but i never knew you did a collab
I pledged the physical PS4 award! I couldn't resist anymore
caloricfoil98 Thanks for doing that!
I've never even played Shenmue. You're just an awesome guy who I've seen rant about it in 5 videos
caloricfoil98
Hey do you think that rumor about no retail release was real or not?
caloricfoil98 No idea. I figure, better safe than sorry.
I wonder if you can walk into a store and get a physical copy of the game
Adam, how good of a Shenmue 3 game are we going to get with 5M?
Do you believe that the Yakuza Series is the closest to the Shenmue series? Do you think Shenmue 3 is going to be a lot like Yakuza?
True say. Peeps don't seem to realise that only about half the budget of a game goes towards actual development. Without Sony's help we'd be looking at a Shenmue III game comprised solely of QTEs with text-only dialogue.
Awesome presenter....smart and passionate
Will Mac
There is about 90% chance that you will be able to play the PC version of Shenmue on your Xbox One in the very near future when Live becomes a cross-platform service which would see the Bone becoming much like a Steam Machine or Shield.
ZamboniElite That's an interesting point.
Listen, you really need to think about what you just said and the context of the original post. You really are letting your ignorance show.
Yeah sega definitely didnt have to do what they did the only reason they let him use the ip is because he saved them during the arcade wars and the only blemish on his record as far as profit margins was is shenmue at least sega let him have that
Sega also didn't pull IP rights on the attempted kick starter for a new Ecco The Dolphin. The kick starter failed, but Sega allowed it to happen.
captainnutella67 Really? I hadn't heard about that.
