Agree with you.....see my comment posted just now. Blackmore pioneered the shredding technique....when he did Highway Star, it was NOT "standard shreddy stuff".
Recorded December 1971 in Montreaux, Switzerland with the Rolling Stones Mobile studio and released in March, 1972. Regardless of whether it was 71 or 72, it was an example of some of the earliest shred guitar techniques in hard rock music up to that point. Blackmore was the pioneer...the groundbreaker. @@hjonkhjonkamgoose
In Australia they use the Tornados of Soul guitar solo as alternative medicine for Erectile Dysfunction, generally after the first bend most patients are walking around looking for a table leg to rub their shaft on.
I get what you mean about the Comfortably Numb solo, but the 1994 PULSE version of that solo is taken to another level by Gilmour, that version of it really shines above and beyond the original recording.
I was hoping to see Bark at the Moon. Thats always been my favorite, and i think it's quite iconic as well. Crazy train is a fantastic song, but the solo never did it for me like Bark at the Moon. Also sweet child o mine should be in yhe perfect tier. It totally transforms the rest of the song, which adds more to its value as opposed to judging it by itself.
It's just insane how many iconic solos on Ozzy's career! I kind of agree with you on this Bark At The Moon x Crazy Train solos, but imo No More Tears is the most epic solo ever on his career
One of my favorites that I think is underrated is Jerry Cantrell. His solos never sound wanky to me. They always manage to sound mean and ominous, and fit the songs so well.
I'm glad someone gave a shout out to Jerry Cantrell! Never has he put out a flashy and crazy solo, but that's not even necessary within the context of his music. I agree with you about how his solos generally fit the song like a glove. He has great phrasing, excellent note choices and lots of emotions. Jerry is in my top 10 favorite guitarists/songwriters.
Couldn’t agree more. Jerry’s solo are textbook in terms of how they support the song. They regularly use repetition but with enough variation to keep it interesting. As you said, they are never wanly or a collection of random licks. You can tell they are thought out. The fact that Jerry is one of rock’s best songwriters shines through in his playing.

My two wildcard additions would be Regret #9 - Guthrie Govan, and Voice of the Soul - Death/Chuck Schuldiner The former is the definition of solo perfection, the latter has brought me to tears on several occassions. Never heard a guitar instrumental tell a story the way Voice of the Soul does.
I mostly agree but my solo on "Enter Sandman" should be there and it should be in the Perfect tier. 🎸 It's oozing with perfect Wahmmy bar technique, top notch phrasing and the shaky vibrato is unmatched by anyone. I'm the Wah Wah god for no reason. 🤘🔥
I think the best guitar solo ever is Flesh and the Power It Holds (Chuck Schuldiner). The discordance of the whole thing over the eerie calmness of the instruments behind. It fits the lyrics and the entire song. I think it just can't be compared.
Chuck was on another plane of guitar-playing existence for the Sound of Perseverance. Voice of the Soul is also my pick for the best guitar instrumental ever. I love that he keeps going back to the same motifs throughout the album when they're that good.
But yeah, Flesh and the power it holds might be his best solo with Lack of comprehension and all the songs on Symbolic that has the best solos he ever recorded!

I don't know all the solos of the list, but I agree with all the ones I know except Painkiller. To me, that solo is masterpiece almost on ToS level, very very close. Although, in my opinion the crown of best solo in the Painkiller album belongs to Between the Hammer and the Anvil.
As much of a Guns N Roses fan that I am, I know Slash is capable of doing outstanding solos. That being said, the Sweet Child O Mine solo; while the song is one of my favorites of GNR, I agree with your opinion on it. If I were to compare it with November Rain, there's no competition. I also like the solo he did for Give It To Me by Michael Jackson. Great list! I think you rated them fairly.
I couldn't agree more about so many of your points. Especially effing Don Henley. "It pains me to say this but Hotel California..." Joe Walsh is a great guitar player. That's what it is. I've learned a third of these. I'm doing Tornado of Souls rn. I'm about to start the 'falling down the stairs' bit at the end of the solo. Effing amazing
While the recording features the guitar work of Joe Walsh and Don Felder, the primary guitar heard throughout the solo belongs to Felder, who also wrote the music for the track.
@@cdprince768 I never knew. Thanks for the correction. I'm unfamiliar w this other fellow. I'll definitely jump into a rabbit hole. He did a great job.

Sacrilege! Beat It’s solo is not only iconic, hearing that kind of solo in a pop song in the 80’s as a kid blew my mind. I couldn’t fathom how those sounds were being created. Also, Sweet Child O’ Mine’s solo escalates and builds tension so well, such a great solo. Best solos aside from those two; ones that weren’t mentioned in this video are Zach Wylde’s solo in No More Tears, Matthias Jabs $ Rudolf Schenker’s Rock you like a Hurricane. I do agree with you on your placement of Tornado of Souls and Sultans of Swing.
Just to add to the list if I may Light My Fire - The Doors.. Squealer - AC/DC Inside looking out - Grand Funk Railroad The Parchment - Iron Maiden The Sleep - Pantera And for me personally the Number 1 would be Stranglehold by Ted Nugent
I have to disagree with you on purple rain. I might be simplistic. But it's still an emotional and touchy solo. To me, it deserves to be on the "still great but mid compared to the rest" tier. I do agree with you on smells like teen spirit though.
I don’t think brad gets emotions from guitar playing from his overrated placement tier tbh, not suppose to a jab to him but those solos would all go without a doubt into perfect for me
Good list…For Pantera I think the solo from The Sleep is super underrated and Cemetery Gates has a better solo than Floods. If you’ve got the non metal guys, you gotta have the Cliffs of Dover and something by SRV. Also, Jason Becker could fill the entire Perfect section.
Glad to see you showing Felder and Walsh love by having Hotel California so high on the list. It's crazy how each guy has his own solo, but it fits together so well. I saw the Eagles in 2018 (sans Felder obviously), and Steuart Smith and Joe Walsh absolutely killed that solo. I've seen Walsh play it tons of times live, and he throws some extra stuff in that sounds even better than the record. And BTW, you're thinking of the miserly Don Henley of the Eagles, who brags about paying a team of people to flag copyrighted Eagles material on the internet. Sultans of Swing is another killer solo.
I'm so glad 10s is getting the recognition it really deserves. Look up the isolated version of it, it's haunting. Dime's best solo imo, and my personal favorite solo of all time
Solid stuff! Nightrain is Slash showing everyone you don't need the shred stuff to actually shred. That and "Don't Damn Me" are two of my favorite Slash solos.
Kurt Cobain over EVH and Dime? Suuuuure.... Hendrix gets a nod for cultural significance, but EVH uses the whammy bar too much? Dude... this list looks like a 5 yr old throwing darts at a dart board with pictures on it.

I agree with your rankings for the most part. “Smells Like Teen Spirit” is four chords and a super-shreddy solo wouldn’t work and Slash really has done better stuff than “Sweet Child.”
I think EVH just improvised a very half assed solo and you can hear it as a musician and as a fan, but EVH was so amazing that even that blew everyones mind and that is where the discomfort comes from

Agree with you.....see my comment posted just now. Blackmore pioneered the shredding technique....when he did Highway Star, it was NOT "standard shreddy stuff".
It was recorded in 1971 and released in 1972. @@hjonkhjonkamgoose
@@garyh.238 sure, but when you put (72) in it, it makes me think that's when it was all done
Smells Like Teen Spirit in "Perfect"!?? ☠️☠️☠️ F*CK NO.
I get what you mean about the Comfortably Numb solo, but the 1994 PULSE version of that solo is taken to another level by Gilmour, that version of it really shines above and beyond the original recording.
Dime's We'll Meet Again solo is insanely underrated
That solo is better than floods by a mile, also the sleep🤘🏻
I was hoping to see Bark at the Moon. Thats always been my favorite, and i think it's quite iconic as well. Crazy train is a fantastic song, but the solo never did it for me like Bark at the Moon.
Also sweet child o mine should be in yhe perfect tier. It totally transforms the rest of the song, which adds more to its value as opposed to judging it by itself.
It's just insane how many iconic solos on Ozzy's career!
I kind of agree with you on this Bark At The Moon x Crazy Train solos, but imo No More Tears is the most epic solo ever on his career
Jake E. Lee was Ozzys best guitarist by far.
I don't listen much DT anymore, but the JP's solo concluding "The Shattered Fortress" is perfection
Huge agree.

@@HeathenDance Hahaha, that´s right
My two wildcard additions would be Regret #9 - Guthrie Govan, and Voice of the Soul - Death/Chuck Schuldiner
The former is the definition of solo perfection, the latter has brought me to tears on several occassions. Never heard a guitar instrumental tell a story the way Voice of the Soul does.
Interesting choice for Guthrie, lots of people would put Drive Home as his most iconic one. I do prefer watchmaker, that solo gets me every time.
Voice of the soul is a musical masterpiece. I love that song so much
@@sgmetalify I love pretty much everything Guthrie does to be fair! There's just something about the buildup to the Regret solo that edges it for me.
@@chrislombardi7134 Fires imagery in my head like no other piece of music ever has.
Voice of the Soul is the best instrumental song ever created. But many of their songs have great guitar solos.
Fax let him cook
Bruh your best solo was RTL admit it
Yeah, if Hendrix is the god of blues rock, Yngwie is the god of shred, you Kirk indeed is the whammy god for sure. 👏
@@Priyanujkalita-z4tsomebody gets it
The Fade to Black disrespect, ain’t no way you did that
I think the best guitar solo ever is Flesh and the Power It Holds (Chuck Schuldiner).
It's an amazing solo in the context of the song but in my opinion it's too peculiar to be considered GOAT.
@@leerobbo92 Voice of the Soul is on a whole other level of instrumental tracks. The Sound of Perseverance is easily in my top 3 album of all time. Thanks for sharing opinion!
@@ResubidorSerial I'd agree with that. I absolutely love Chuck's solos, but I think I did end up souring on them slightly after I listened to King Diamond's discography and upon revisiting Individual Thought Patterns it was really obvious that Andy's leads were stealing the show.
Agree with your ranking of Marty Friedman’s solo. His solos are songs by themselves!
I wonder why nobody ever talks about the solo from Extreme - Rest in Peace. That solo is beautiful. I'm not even an Extreme fan, but I listen to that.
Honestly Extreme is pretty goated in terms of the guitar solos, but everything else about them is, eh? Reminds me Cliff’s band before Metallica, Trauma, they’re kinda eh, but then there’s that one standout in the band
@@brettwriter It's just Nuno for me. Gotta respect his skill.
@@lidiaspazzard Nuno is the shit. I grew up listening to Hole Hearted (one of my mom's favorite songs), but it wasn't until I bought the Pornograffitt album when I was 17 (back in the dim year 1999 this was, god I'm old) that I realized how incredible the man is. @@brettwriter you gotta be kidding, the rhythm is also nuts, he's like Eddie x100
@@Vivi_9 I meant the music itself, something just doesn’t sit right with me
Great idea screwing with the tier list at the end! I agree with the playlist for the most part
A solo that comes to mind that's severely underrated is Left hand path, by Entombed. It's so amazing how such a brutal song can have a solo that makes me feel something.
I second this opinion!
Very good video man. I just wanna say that when you talk about the free bird solo. You show a picture of Gary Rossington. But it was actually Allen Collins who played the solo.
Two very underrated guitar solos:
Pearl Jam’s “Alive,” and Radiohead’s “Paranoid Android.”
They’re both *perfect.*
Amazing songs but the solos don’t stand out
i like both those songs decently enough but cant even remember a single part of their solos, not iconic imo
Alive solo is sooooo goood
Some cool:
Eagles- Hotel california
Guns n Roses- Welcome to the jungle
Skid Row- i remember you
Led Zeppelin- stairway to heaven
Van Halen- Jump
Toto- hold the line
Journey- stone in love
Suicidal Tendencies- nobody hears
Ozzy Osbourne- No more tears
Europe- the final countdown
Queen- i want it all
Extreme- rest in peace
Extreme- play with me
TNT - Caught Between The Tigers
Dr. Sin- Howlin´in the shadows
Would love to see Bradley doing The Sleep Pantera solo cover 💗
Fucken love that solo, all my hairs stand on end when I hear that one.
1) Boston: A Man I'll Never Be
2) Boston: Hitch a Ride
3) GnR: There Was a Time
4) DP: Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming
I don't know all the solos of the list, but I agree with all the ones I know except Painkiller. To me, that solo is masterpiece almost on ToS level, very very close. Although, in my opinion the crown of best solo in the Painkiller album belongs to Between the Hammer and the Anvil.
I just noticed your necronomicon tattoo for the first time and I have to say that's fucking awesome
For me personally the perfect solo is one that fits seamlessly in a final boss fight.
Bradley, you’re such a charming guy. I’d love to see you make more vids like this.
Under a glass moon is the perfect solo imo
I like the list for the most part, it just sucks that you chose "Beat It" over all of VH's other stuff.
I love these videos. They’re equally as hilarious as they are just brilliant in general. Another great video from Bradley Hall!! 😁
lol. I LOVE that you re-arranged them all at the end, well played. 😆
I like your picks, criteria and rankings. Better than most lists I've seen in guitar mags.
All Along the Watchtower was originally a Bob Dylan track. I just thought it was worth mentioning. New fan and subscriber by the way!
I always thought that was funny my favorite jimi hendrix song was a bob Dylan song
I think exactly the opposite. While not being a song that I love, the solo is one of my favourites from the band
dude your t-shirt is absolute stuff of legends.
@@nathanv.4397 Yeah, Felder is a great guitarist and actually preceded Walsh in The Eagles. He was never treated very well and left the band a couple of times. I've always liked his track "Heavy Metal" which he recorded as a solo act after he left the Eagles.
いつも楽しく見ています。
今回のBradleyさんのtierには、わたしも概ね同意します。
Tornado of souls
Just to add to the list if I may
Light My Fire - The Doors..
Squealer - AC/DC
Inside looking out - Grand Funk Railroad
The Parchment - Iron Maiden
The Sleep - Pantera
And for me personally the Number 1 would be Stranglehold by Ted Nugent
I have to disagree with you on purple rain. I might be simplistic. But it's still an emotional and touchy solo. To me, it deserves to be on the "still great but mid compared to the rest" tier. I do agree with you on smells like teen spirit though.
I don’t think brad gets emotions from guitar playing from his overrated placement tier tbh, not suppose to a jab to him but those solos would all go without a doubt into perfect for me
I really love how you decide to end, great idea !!
I died inside a bit when you've started talking about fade to black😢
It's okay, it matters what you think my dude. Bradley is notorious for his disregard for Metallica.
@@cripplingdebt224 for some reason i didn't notice it
Not putting "Under a Glass Moon"'s perfect solo on perfect but putting "smells like teens spirit" there was really sad for me :(
Good list…For Pantera I think the solo from The Sleep is super underrated and Cemetery Gates has a better solo than Floods. If you’ve got the non metal guys, you gotta have the Cliffs of Dover and something by SRV. Also, Jason Becker could fill the entire Perfect section.
Smell like teen spirit above stairway, purple rain and comfortably numb...ah...what do i know about music....
Comfortably Numb solo is my all time fav one 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Shame you didn’t include 10’s. One of my personal favorites when it comes to Dimebags solos
I'm so glad 10s is getting the recognition it really deserves. Look up the isolated version of it, it's haunting. Dime's best solo imo, and my personal favorite solo of all time
I always thought that the solo to "Ride The Lightning" was absolute perfection. Especially for it's time.
How is Smells Like Teen Spirit on this list at all lol
I don't understand how anyone can find Comfortably Numb solo boring.. but whatever
You were more generous with the beat it solo than I would have been. Not overrated, but still great. And I love EVH
Even without knowing that EVH played that solo, you can just tell it’s him. Just another great and fun EVH solo!
Beat it isn’t even Eddie’s best solo it’s just something he improvised in 20 mins
Solid stuff! Nightrain is Slash showing everyone you don't need the shred stuff to actually shred. That and "Don't Damn Me" are two of my favorite Slash solos.
For me, the best solos from Slash are "the garden" and the intro to " aint it fun"
Pain Killer was actually 2 solos in one song, so I rate them as perfect.
Kurt Cobain over EVH and Dime? Suuuuure....
Hendrix gets a nod for cultural significance, but EVH uses the whammy bar too much?
Dude... this list looks like a 5 yr old throwing darts at a dart board with pictures on it.
Imagine putting as much effort towards being a anti guitar hero as Kurt did, only to end up being placed next to those amazing players (accurately btw) in a list like this. 😂🤦
Lmaooo my thoughts exactly!
I love fade to black, i guess if i paid attention to how is runs up and down scales i guess i can agree with its rank. But the eargasm i had first hearing it was awesome.
Every Petrucci solo is amazing.
👍 Agree
I’m not a guitar player, but you ranked my favorite ones out of these pretty high… I’m also a huge Hendrix fan and I was scared what you’d do with him, but pleased in the end. Well done lad!
Marty is always #1
I must defend the fade to black solo because of the live versions, the stop and the high bends are perfect
I'm not really a fan of Avenged Sevenfold, but the guitar solo from Afterlife is perfect in my opinion. I pretty much agree with your tier list here though.
Very good, other great A7X solo picks would be Sidewinder or almost easy
To me the best solos are ,Root of all evil , viper king , pull me under , take the time final , the count of tuscany final ,etc (This from John petrucci of DT)
And extra solos: Highway star live in japan (Deep Purple ,Ritchie Blackmore) ,Paradise city oficial final solo (Guns and Roses , Slash), Burn Deep Purple and that is all , there are so much solos , but the solos that i said ,in that order for me are the best
(Obviosly i'm a big fan of john petrucci , actually my favorite guitarist of all time)
:) :)
The solo in Hallow by Pantera is so brutal
JAJAJAJAJAJA when he messes up the ranking 10/10
If solos of Necrophagist-Fermented Offal Discharge, Alkaloid-Alter Magnitudes and Obscura-Akroasis were famous, those would be in perfect class imo
Necrophagist-Fermented Offal Discharge is probably the most stupid band name I've heard so far.
@@HorseloverFat1984 then you have not heard a lot of metal lmao
The best Marty Friedman solo till this day is the intro solo from The Ninja
Bradley, Van Halen is incredible, you really need to give him another go.
The solo from “Ice Cream Man” is in my top 20 for sure
Bradley Hall “less is more, goes straight over his head”
I agree with your rankings for the most part. “Smells Like Teen Spirit” is four chords and a super-shreddy solo wouldn’t work and Slash really has done better stuff than “Sweet Child.”
But the solo is pretty much doing the same notes that the voice does, during the verses.
@@HeathenDanceyeah like I get it but PERFECT tho? It doesn't belong up there, in amazing sure. But not perfect..
Wtf do you mean Tornado of souls is 4 chords
@@Avalonians_ it's actually three, the fourth is just an add9 😝
@@jontraz5993 pretty sure the whole song revolves around the B/G/E/F# powerchords
I think EVH just improvised a very half assed solo and you can hear it as a musician and as a fan, but EVH was so amazing that even that blew everyones mind and that is where the discomfort comes from
Two solos I love of one of my favourite guitarists, Jerry Cantrell:
Them Bones and We Die Young
They're perfect in my opinion, it's amazing.
Yes yes yes! Every solo of his is just perfect. We Die Young is one of my favourites - great use of pinched harmonics.
Right? The hell with using nirvana, Alice In Chains is 10x better in every way 🤘🏻 the solo also for bleed the freak, sea of sorrow, and nutshell are perfect also
Great ranking! I think I agree with all of it. Even where I don’t, I’ll still nod (like Fade to Black). And love the ending, such a laugh!😂
i agree with this list, BUT eddie van halen is my hero and why i got into music, so i would have put beat it higher. i also would have put teen spirit lower because nirvana fans annoy me and the solo isn’t that good (it is kind of perfect tho)
ALSO
i consistently spend at least one and a half hours a day listening to 69 degrees of inner chungus its so good what the hell
Lmao glad you dig the CHUNGUS
The hell with smells like teen spirit… Jerry Cantrell is a far better example to use for solos and talent. The “man in the box”
Solo would have been a perfect one. other wise the list is pretty good.
why is the pictur for sweet child o mine from november rain ?
november rain is more iconic in my opinion
