Jolly good! Guess I'll be the guy to point there's literally a song titled Melbourne on that album. To be exact, the corner mentioned refers to Westgarth and High st.
Where this song is the first part of a trilogy discussing one of the original band members descent into depression, drug use, and suicide... this parody for me really misses...
Funny but a bit cruel. Tim Freedman doesn't deserve that. There's crappy music with terrible lyrics that make little if any sense at all. Pull them apart! Songs by the Whitlams are memorable, not because of references to bl'dy Newtown! I don't think another group has since given as much reference to places in SYDNEY (not solely Newtown), and it's nice to hear Sydney referred to for a change, as opposed to bl'dy Melbourne. A gorgeous singing voice, unforgettable melodies, both sad and jovial, jazzy, fast paced as well as those that are played more slowly, plus brilliant lyrics are the factors that make the Whitlams the group it is, a top notch group, that is!
This song was specifically written about one of the band members who killed himself... makes this attempt at parody a bit worse. The Charlie songs were all about the same person and their descent into depression, drug use and finally suicide.

If only they had half the talent of Tim Freedman.
I wonder if these guys knew this song was about one of the original band members who killed himself...
Lame. And the joke is a total rip off of the The Late Show's "Just Ran Out of Melbourne Cliches" from the 90s.
Appreciate the joke. But this lad has not half the talent of my man Tim
