    I might be wrong but since the highbeams on the tesla are overlapping with the lowbeam it gives a false reading. Most headlights will have a highbeam pattern that is above the lowbeam so its reading is only highbeam whereas the tesla was reading both highbeam and lowbeam. I beleive thats why it had such a high reading, it also might not be as good on the road since the highbeam is shooting too low and not as far up as you would want it. Would be interesting to see a beam shot comparison outdoors while driving.

    Great detailed review of the Cybertruck lightning. I wonder if the exterior lights are 48V which would explain why they are so bright.

    • @superspeeder
      @superspeeder Місяць тому +1

      Single LED diodes have a forward voltage of around 3V and require special driver circuits to limit current. Even if the low beam (3 diodes) or high beam (4 diodes) were wired in series, they would need roughly 9V or 12V respectively.
      48V is not an advantage for LED lighting, it’s actually an efficiency disadvantage because the voltage needs to be dropped so much farther compared to a 12V system.

    • @XKS99
      @XKS99 Місяць тому

      DC-DC converting from 48V to 3V vs 12V to 3V is not materially different in terms of efficiency. The amount of copper needed for the run to the converters is either less with 48V or the same amount with more available power. I presume brighter LEDs run with more current so with everything else equal 48V would make brighter lights possible.

    • @superspeeder
      @superspeeder Місяць тому +1

      @@XKS99 look up the efficiency curves of buck converters and LED drivers as input voltage varies. The greater the difference between Vin and Vout the lower the efficiency. Sometimes it’s not much, and I didn’t claim it to be, but it’s real.
      48V would only make for brighter lights if 12V was incapable of providing enough power, but it’s not. 12V power is not a limiting factor for LEDs. My point was only that 48V doesn’t make for brighter LED headlights.

    • @XKS99
      @XKS99 Місяць тому +1

    I could be wrong, but I'm under the impression that the Cybertruck headlights are matrix (like a lot of other new Teslas). If so, that means the high beams will be able to remain on, but individual LEDs will turn off to not blind oncoming traffic if/when they activate it via software update. Any reason you didn't mention that feature?

    • @HeadlightRevolution
      @HeadlightRevolution  Місяць тому

      We know for sure that the Model Y and Model 3 have the Matrix LED headlights, IF this Cybertruck does have an adaptive LED headlight it would have to be enabled in the truck settings - we were not able to confirm or find this so it is not included.

    CT low beams look fantastic. The highs are garbage! Focusing all the light into a tiny slit is useless, unless you drive on flat straight roads all the time. They’d be far better if that light was spread out more.
    Who cares about maximum lux? Shine a laser at your lux meter and it will be crazy bright, and it won’t light up anything useful.
    I get it, you need to test something and put a number on it to fuel debate, but this is misleading as I’m sure you’re aware.

      We don't think this is misleading since we show the beam pattern, and not just the lux #s. We did this video to test something we were genuinely curious about - how well does such a small headlight perform? We surely didn't expect much, and the low beam was impressive for what it is. The high beam may be lack luster when it comes to overall width and coverage, but kudos to Tesla for fitting it all into something so tiny!

    • @superspeeder
      @superspeeder Місяць тому

      @@HeadlightRevolution reporting the numbers isn’t in itself misleading, but it is misleading to claim that Headlight A is X amount brighter than Headlight B based on a single point lux reading.
      Headlight performance is just as much about light DISTRIBUTION as it is about light intensity. A test that accurately relays how two lights compare is not likely practical, but that doesn’t mean we should rely on a simpler, less useful test.
