Really love this motor. I've used it on my depron flying wing for about 3 months and works beautifully. On 4S you get a plenty of power, on 3S the efficiency is so damn good. So I'd say jack of all trades, master of 4S and 3S 😁
Great motor for a great plane, glad your still liking the ranger
My daughters are currently painting planes of mine. One of them is the Ranger 757 4. Around 1.2 meter wingspan. I put a different motor on it that I should really do a thrust test on like you did. And power meter. Good stuff Andrew.
Cool, I subscribed so I can see the results.
I just start to put my Ranger 2000 and I was wondering what motor to put on it. Now I have no doubts! Thank you very much!!! Best RC channel!!!!!
This is the motor I've been using since I got mine. Great combined with the Ranger
Which prop? 8x6"?
@@AndrewNewton Yeah, if you don't mind not going fast you can stay airborne with 4amps or a little less but need to crank it up a little to make decent progress
Nice flight and motor test! Looks like plenty of power while being stingy on Amps ;-) See you in the Air!
The ranger 2m it's a great plane
This motor works very well on 6s and a APC 7x6 prop. Had one on my Mini Drak for a while. Very efficient.
Nice, must try that
1st? Nice Job! Thanks Mate
Every time I see you back off and test the cruise amperage I chuckle and think 'yeah, I'd never see that' lol.
I can't fly at anything but full throttle, I get bored too fast, I've only ever manged to do one endurance flight and got 35mins and around 18 miles with an ft cub running a 4200 3s and a storch wing instead of the stock wing, I had a headache by the end of it though from the concentration of keeping flying it so slowly and not ramping up the throttle 😂
Ha, I am always in glider mode for some reason.
@@AndrewNewton i might as well have a simple on off switch for my throttle, im maxed out from take off to landing.
i dont even save any power, i will run it down to min at altitude and glide home lol
There's a CF motor mount available on eBay listed as Universal Motor Mounting Plate for SK450 XA650 FY680 Quadcopter that fits the stock mount diameter of the Rangers perfectly. The Rangers are nice planes but that that prop noise reminded me why I've converted most of my other top props to twin tractor.
Oh brilliant. Just bought a set, thanks for the tip
You bet. :)
Hi Andrew,
Don't throw your NTM away. I replace all my bearings on my motors. Get them from Plaig Bearings down your way.
It'll be better than new..
Cheers.
Cool shop, thanks for the tip
I have this motor and best for this 8x6 prop on 4S.
Yep, next test
Hi, emax mt2216 first version good for plane and worth of money?
@Andrew Newton - Did I see you plugging a current indicator between the battery and ESC on another video? What do you use to give you OSD telemetry on your TX? Just interested in the technical side as you seem to give excellent current draw information on most, if not all, of your videos. Can you provide links for the equipment you use? Thanks from NZ
FrSKY 40A current sensor. I have videos on all the sensors. Also get current via a flight control board and watt meter in some videos.
I put 2 of those mounted on the wings of my ranger 2000
Lordy, that would have some grunt
@@AndrewNewton i have 3d printed motor mounts that fit the wings of the ranger 2000 ...if you want a couple of pairs I can send you some free of charge
Awesome!!! Do you have the flaps connected to your FCB? Or do you have them plugged into your receiver MWP? I have a Tundra and I want to put a Matek F405 Wing with INAV but I can’t figure out how to get the flaps working.
Thanks for your help and thanks for sharing.
not sure about Inav, but in arduplane, you can use the pass thru feature to get an rC channel out directly. you can flash Arduplane onto a f405 board. if you do not find another solution, check your rc reciever, many can output PWM at the same time as SBUS, and you may be able to bypass the fC altogether. maybe, maybe not. but worth checking. just plug in a servo and try it.
Flaps through the FCB. I have a video on exactly that. Check my iNav Playlist
Andrew Newton thanks so much!!! I’ve poured through a ton of your videos. You have absolutely fantastic content and great info!!! Thanks for your help!!!
FPVREVIEWS I have actually considered doing that. I’m using a Spektrum satellite receiver so it doesn’t have sbus our PWM outputs. It does have a serial output but I still need the fcb to make it work for flaps. I may need to just get One if the orange receivers that has PPM and use that one so I can bypass the board. Thanks for your comments and suggestions!!
Thanks for the great videos Andrew 👍 I'm thinking I'll need to upgrade the motor, ESC and servos on my 1600 soon what would you recommend? I like the sunnysky motors used them before if I went with the 1400kv would I need to update the ESC or could I get away with the stock one? I'm using 3s .
ESC will be fine, any metal gear servos would be better than the originals.
@@AndrewNewton any brand or site you recommend to buy servos was tempted to go Banggood but heard it's hit or miss?
I used to use TowerPro MG90S servos but watch Matts video on which ones to buy now ua-cam.com/video/MGSYjpvl8II/v-deo.html
Having a hard time finding the 1250Kv version, a couple vendors have the 1100KV version. Does that seem like a decent option?
Yes, on 4S with an 8x6 prop and you will have power to spare
Sir andrew what are your recommended throws for Aileron/Elevator/Rudder for the Ranger… did not see them on the manual… Will be used with Inav 6.1.1
Don't have the 2000 any more but on the 1600, ailerons connected to outer holes on servo arms and control horns, Elevator and rudder connected to outer holes on control horns and middle holes on servo arms
@@AndrewNewton thank you sir… appreciate the kind and gracious gesture
Great video!!! tks!!!
this motor can be used in Ranger 1600?
Yes it would be perfect. Same plane, just shorter wings
@@AndrewNewton Tks Andrew!
Did you try this setup with 3s battery and if yes how it goes?
Yes, current results in the description
Have you tried this with a 9in prop? Could it handle it at 4s? If so would it be more efficient?
That would chop through the boom
I know, but I am going to use it on a cub-style plane...i bought this and the 2814 to test out!
Andrew what size battery were you using with this setup? Maybe I missed it... Trying to determine if it's capable of carrying a 6000mah 4S Lipo. Seems like it might draw slightly high amps for a Li-Ion at full throttle but cruising would be ok I think
4S 3300. Could easily carry 6000
@@AndrewNewton thanks for the reply. I'm ordering one today. I can't find the kit version though. Is the stock pnp motor/esc capable of 4s? maybe by propping down or RPM/throttle limit down if needed?
I noticed you have used 3s and 4s on it with your motor setup. I'm really going for efficiency and long range but trying to use this massive, pricey 6Ah brick lipo as well 🤣
@@AndrewNewton love your videos BTW. Keep up the great work. I've come to trust your reviews and opinions on wings. ...not true of all reviewers haha
Many thanks. Stock setup can survive 4S but best to do as you suggest to limit current a bit.
would this work on the phoenix 2400?
A bit bigger would be better but it would work
Do you think an outrunner would work on a G2 with some mods?
I thought this was an outrunner. What are you referring to?
It was more the type of installation, where the motor is installed externally rather than internally to the housing.
i have a question. i want to upgrade the motor on my aero scout . I have SUNNYSKY X2212 / 1400kv Brushless Outrunner Motor X-Series in mind and i wanted to use
Hobbywing Skywalker 2-6S 60A UBEC Brushless ESC With 5V/5A BEC For RC Airplane. would this work good for the aero scout?
Small prop, so it may need higher kV motor
@@AndrewNewton have you seen the stock motor on the earo scout they are small really small drone motor. stock motor 2306 -2250. im sure the SUNNYSKY X2212 / 1400kv Brushless Outrunner Motor X-Serie is bigger and nore powerful ... i had this motor on my stock sonic model ar 1000m fixed wing it was powerful
@@staydown.normal5323 Yes the Sunnysky can be more powerful, but only if you use a bigger prop. 2250kV vs 1400kV
hmm.. thanks.. i think i will just add a 2-4 cell esc at 30amp..... the stock esc gets hot after 5 batterys on 4s and will shut off in the air and turn back on when it over heats . It has only done it to me one time but i noticed it was the esc that was hot and why the motor stopped. It is still new so horrizon hobby sent me a replacement esc. I dont think i will use it thought i want a 4 cell esc
What prop is best on this motor on the Ranger 2000?
This is the stock 8x4. Depends on the battery, but 8x6 seems popular
@@AndrewNewton cw or ccw ?
And the 3S? a little more info? Thanks,,,,,,,,.. It was "ThanksGiving" in the US yesterday, or Turkey Day, sit around the table eat "Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, Home made Gravy, Cranberry's, Salads, more and more, Lie to all you Relatives, Watch Football, fall asleep in an overstuffed chair. Have Pumpkin Pie for dessert and go home sick, LOL............. Truly an American Holladay!, Do have anything that Match's?
Hi, Mike! Hope you've recovered from Thanksgiving, buddy! Just lie back and let your belt out another notch or two...
I'm not an Australian, I'm an English Brit, but there's a good chance that modern Australians have adopted a lot of old British customs (such as driving on the correct side of the road!).
I've no idea if Australian Aboriginal people have any key seasonal observances, but they've got history going back 30,000+ years, so you'd think they'd have come up with something suitably jolly in all that time - probably involving singing, dancing, lager, Vegemite, and dodging crocodiles.
There's no Thanksgiving here in England, and nothing even remotely similar, really. The idea of a whole nation giving thanks to a numinous deity for anything is a bizarre, weird, freaky, alien concept, largely because (both officially and unofficially) we don't 'do' God.
Whoops.
I suppose Christmas is the nearest thing we have to a national festival, but for many people it's got nothing to do with 3 wise men, gold, frankincense, myrrh, or a swarthy little baby Jesus who must've looked more like a tiny ayatollah than a fair-faced Little Lord Fauntleroy.
I don't bother with Christmas. For others, it's an excuse for spending next year's cash, stoking up simmering family rivalries, eating too much, and ungrateful 'entitled' kids complaining that their stoooopid parents have bought last year's iPhone ("D'oh!") instead of this year's, and that they should have paid more attention to the 'batteries not included' stickers on the rest of their ridiculously overpriced toys.
Again, there's not a lot of...um, religion involved. Sorry about that, my dear Puritan cousin! :-)
We still remember the old festivals - simple, secular, pagan winter ones involving holly and mistletoe and booze and feasting and hoping that the sun will come back next year. Some of them go back thousands of years before organised religion got involved and those cheeky Christian chappies hijacked all the times and dates and customs.
Before them, the ancient Romans invaded and trampled on most of our traditions and introduced Saturnalia. Wine, women, feasting, and song. And more women. And more wine. A dangerous combination... (Saturnalia is what the early Christians 'borrowed' and turned into Christmas.)
Saturnalia's experiencing something of a renaissance - probably because a lot of people are fed up with being told what they can and can't celebrate, preferring to get fed up with roast chicken, roast spuds, carrots, sprouts, peas, Yorkshire puds and gravy instead. Followed by a nice fruit pudding and custard, of course. Yum!
Any excuse for a snowbound winter party, eh? ;-)
Not really, we have Australia Day but that is seen as more of an Invasion Day by the folks that were here first. It's a summer day of BBQs and Australian flags on cars.
You need to upgrade to DJI air system you will not be sorry at all.
Very tempted, might wait for V2
8x4 is too small... 8x6 is better...
True.
Done, thanks
9×6 porp
My friend use more agresive prop.. 10x5... 😁
9" won't clear the tail boom.
