Well my 111 Chief in gloss black checks my boxes, it’s stage 1’d, runs great, has plenty of power and sound, ands it’s metal, no plastic 10k crap bolted all over it
Oil change every 5k and that’s about it, 15k brand new
Harley priced me way out and the local stealership is slimy

    • @BlinkingKillswitch

And that's great. Particularly with motorcycles, you have to get what fits you, be it price wise or fitment wise. However, you can't shit on a brand just because you can't afford it. I can't afford a Porche, but I can still appreciate what they do.

But the equal to a chief would be a street. Bob which has a 114 and it's also 15K. So I'm not quite sure how hardly priced you out here because you literally spent the same amount of money and most Harley dealerships will offer you a stage 1 upgrade for free when you buy the bike so that would still be included and the street Bob definitely isn't covered in plastic

@@BikesBeardsAndBrews not Socal, no free lunch here. As far as the street bob, it’s a beautiful bike. Seems as though my comment is taken as Harley bashing- it’s not, the dealer was slimy as was the Indian, just less slimy- 111-114 who cares in my opinion, both are 2 wheeled rocket diesel trucks. Harley kept pushing me to the plastic 35k bikes because I have means and credit- if I did it over, I would have looked a little hard for a lightly abused Dyna from a private seller, but so be it- my Indian though boring and black haha fits my tastes and is simple (relatively) and I can work on it - appreciate your channel

@@BikesBeardsAndBrewschances are he got priced out in fees that are separate from MSRP. For example, I’m deployed right now so when I saw the Street Glide was down to $25,999 MSRP I called my buddy back home and asked what he’s seeing them go for out the door at the local dealerships and he told me he hasn’t heard of one leaving the dealerships for less than 30. And for most people in this current economy, that difference in MSRP and out the door cost prices a lot of people out. Which is why I think it should be a law that vehicle manufacturers in general cannot charge more than 2k over MSRP for a stock vehicle.

As a Harley rider, I am so indebted to Indian motorcycles for pushing Harley to be better! Let's face it, if Harley had their way, we would still be riding 88ci Evos that weigh 900 lbs, 24 degree lean angles, and did 0-60 in.......it will get there. Just be patient. Then Indian came out swinging! Pushed Harley to inovate, get better, be more modern. Then Indian released the sport chief and went back to bed. WTH Indian? Its been a couple years now since you've bothered doing anything. I mean anything! Did you run out of ideas? Run low on finances? Stop caring? Just please don't give up and throw in the towel. We need you!

HD haters forget that there has always been a Davidson family member on the board since it's inception, even during the AMF years before Davidson bought the brand back. I had no idea they were boring. That's news to me. I guess people buy motorcycles for different reasons, but mine was to ride, not to color. I outgrew coloring books a long time ago.

The ftrs are really cool, although there's not a really huge difference between them and a Honda cbr1000r so it doesn't help Indian who normally carries that whole stereotype of being a Harley rip-off which I do not agree with. But yeah, the FTR really does look like a rip-off. That being said, if that's the ride you like then that should be your bike and no one else's opinion should matter. It shoots, is quite reliable and popular, but it was the first "light" polymer pistol and therefore made a name for itself 30 years ago. There are TONS of better guns than the Glock today, but for a lot of people the Glock is still the best. Are there reasonable grounds for this ? NO. But this is the power of marketing. It will take a whole generation for the people for whom Glock was of great quality to simply die. It's a bit like that with Harley too. For the older generation, Harley is the only right cruiser. For the younger one - not really. It's just one of many bikes.

I wish Victory was still around. I always preferred the looks of them over Harley. Not to mention that Freedom 106 is without a doubt the most beautiful modern V-twin ever put into a motorcycle. I think Indian is knocking it out of the park though with their new bikes. As far as changing up their bikes and suspension there really isn't any need to. They still have the better suspension, brakes, and performance right now. My local two dealerships can't keep the Challengers in stock, and have sold 3 of the Elites before they even hit the showroom floor. You walk into a Harley dealership and there are a lot of 2023 models still on their floors. Can't say that about Indian right now.

I absolutely loved victory and I've said it many times before even in videos. If victory was still around I would be on a victory, not a Harley. That being said, comparing what each manufacturer has on the floor is a little rough without knowing what each manufacturer produces. For example, we do know that there were over a thous and Street glide and road glide cvos made in 2023 but there were only 125 Challenger elites produced in 2023. So of course their sales floors will be emptier.

They did keep a couple models with the valenced/skirted fenders and the ugly round top bags for th eones who want that. I've owned many H-D's over the years. Indian just announced a bigger PowerPlus engine. I purchased a 2020 Chieftain Elite, then a 2022 Pursuit Limited Premium and then the 2023 Pursuit Elite. I said H-D would have to do something amazing to ever get me to look their way again because I love the ride and power so much on the PowerPlus 108 with the Challenger platform.

I think where Indian shines is with their smaller lower-priced bikes. After the death of the Evo Sportster it seems the Indian Scout Rogue 60 is one of the few bikes out there really filling that void. I think I'd much rather have one of those Indian engines than a Revmax engine, even if the prices were the same. As for colors a lot of us black is the preferred color so I'm fine with the colors.
I've already started up the ladder with bigger and heavier weight. The grass isn't always greener. I've given up on chasing displacement and the weight that comes with it. Turns out sometimes a ligher bike in a classic displacement is more fun.
There's also something to said about the reliability of an engine that's been in production long enough to work out all the bugs. I'm fine with not having the newest engine or a lot of tech, actually I prefer it. I also tend to keep my bikes for a long time so I'm already not looking to trade in over updates.

That being said, I don't think putting the working man in cvos in the same sentence is fair either because that is their top of the line bike and if you're going to compare that to anything it would be the elite line that Indian has which is priced right about the same as the CVO line. So does that mean Indian has priced out the working man as well? Now if you compare all their bikes, one for one, they are all in similar price range. So a challenger is a similar price range to a road glide a Street glide is a similar place to a chieftain. So are you saying that Indian has priced out the working men as well? As for bringing up Indian changing hands so many times part of the point there is when they change hands. It's after they lay dormant for years on end. I mean let's be honest before Polaris picked up Indian. When was the last time you could buy a new Indian off the floor? It is Indian in name only

@@BikesBeardsAndBrews you can’t get mad at an all American underdog story. lol 1901 American motorcycle company rising from its ashes and reclaiming its rightful place. Kick and cry all you want about ownership. Like I said no Harley or Davison sit at the helm of the company and are back by government bailouts and black rock corporations. “Let’s not mention AMF years” Indian is back. Making HD sweat preparing paperwork for the 34 government bail out. You got me with the comparison of the CVO line to the elite. But in the end HD killed the sportster line. Now the scouts with the gate way. Dormant for years or not. It’s back my man. Iove the 114 road glide. But wanna ask you. What do you think the future holds for both teams?

No matter who owns either company I want them to succeed. But if you do want to continue with Harley's history I'd really just say you are deflecting as is anyone else in the comments who mentioned the same. None of you disputed the actual fact of what happened to Indian, you only respond with, 'Well what about Harley'. At the end of the day Harley has never had a 20+ year production gap, Indian has had a few. As for the future, hopefully they both grow and push each other to be better

Polaris is no underdog. Money to burn. The HD 117 motor has been around since 2018. The 121 is the new one. A 131 crate motor came out in 2020 and a 135 in 2023. And now HD has introduced a High Output 121. They really stepped up as of late. Indian really needs aftermarket products. You can customize a Harley any way you want. More of anything…power, chrome, pipes, cams, on and on. Customizing a bike to be unique and one of a kind is part of the fun. Indian has nothing much in this regard. I hope they start aggressively tackling this problem.

I will say, I'm glad I got my '17 Chieftain Limited when I did. It is a stand out from the crowd, not saying it's a one off custom, but I love the more retro styling vs the current styling, but I have the smaller front fender. The 111 is a great engine and so far has been great at 92k miles. I have a lot of the same opinions you do minus views on the styling. I don't see any reason to upgrade except for the Challenger or adding a Chief to the stable. And yes, the prices have gotten crazy the last few years, and the paint selection has always been lacking. Right now mine is just a basic Thunder Black, but planning on painting my bike when I hit 100k miles.

Let’s not pretend that Harley has been the bringer of new anything until the Pan America. Harley is the king of “bold new colors”. Outside of colors and a small bump in displacement every few years (3-5) most Harley bikes were identical year to year except the price got higher.
The size of the engines stayed the same for years before they bumped up. They didn’t bump up the engine size every year. If that was the case the M8 would be the size of a 6.7L Cummings.
Dealer network issue…. Bikes have to be bought for infrastructure to grow. Buildings aren’t free and employees don’t work for free. Same for aftermarket. Supply and demand.
I like Harley and I like Indian but let’s be real here. Both of these companies are practically doing the same thing. The difference is Harley has been around more consistently longer.

Were all of these bangers or major? Nope. But the kept a buzz going

I get some of your points but man, if I guy wants to minimize a change (any change) they will find a way and you have done just that.
