Most shambolic team 1-2 and maiden win for a driver ever surely! Never thought Oscar’s 1st win and in the same race as Lewis’ 200th podium would be so hollow. McLaren need to clean themselves up strategically as does Lando, Harry Kane of F1 almost, bottles good chances. First they pit Lando first despite apparently wanting to keep the order as is then have that issue with Lando pace wise at least deserving the win as he pulled away from 2s to 6 ahead. Was a complete mess all around.
Lando Norris won't be winning the drivers championship because the team is too keen to mentally break their drivers in submission to the pitwall and management. Red Bull don't and won't do that to Max Verstappen, Mercedes didn't do that to Lewis Hamilton. And Oscar Piastri should have been pitted first. "Team orders should be banned in Formula One" - amen to that!
Lando is 2nd and 70 points off Max and he lost 8 points that where given to Piastri. I am in Toronto and there was INDY race downtown, I don't watch it but i heard a man Pateo Ward is in a McLaren INDY CAR. He want's to go to F1 so one of the drivers has to be dropped. Its a battle to keep seat when Pateo Ward comes in to F1.
McLaren have to learn how to be winners again. The institutional knowledge is long gone. Apparently this scenario was discussed and agreed to before the race which seems strange. I feel sorry that the joy of Piastri's first F1 GP win and Team max points was diminished somewhat. They'll learn. It does look like Piastri, and not just Max, is living inside Lando's head.
Piastri only took the lead because he took advantage of Lando trying to stop Verstappen this allowed Piastri to sneak into the lead, agreed Lando got poor start. I agree that Lando should have given the place back but I agred with Lando for not compromising his race just to let Oscar through, this could have put Lando into the clutches of Lewis. Lando was right to say tell Piastri to catch me up, and I will let him past. I think McLaren were scandalous in lying to Lando about the various things wrong with the car that were blatantly not true. From Lando's point of view he has been loyal to McLaren through their lean years and has helped them develop this car. Max has had a level of success because he is the number one driver and so many times in the past Checo has had to compromise his races to help Max. No they didn't favour (the propper word there is no such word as favouritised) Lando they wanted to bring him in first to cover off Lewis as he was looking quick at that time and had just won the previous GP, it was to favour the team not Lando. Lando is a better driver this year compared to Oscar, the stats prove it Norris has more points and and has comprehensively out qualified Piastri this season. I'm pleased Lando stood up to the team he has been the nice guy too often in F1 and as Mark Webber can confirm nice guys don't win F1 championships, mean, selfish people do like Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Max Verstappen and even Lewis quickly learned to be a mean SOB on the track, they can be nice off track (not all are though).
@@simply_psi Lando got a poor start as we seen many times recently. You are right Lando is loyal to Mclaren but the team will favour him no matter what we seen this through out season. Lando is a good solid driver but never a champion.
Well said. The problem is Piastri is just better than Norris. Forget the fact Norris is more experienced, Piastri has won at every level and is smarter and a better driver, Norris is done, his confidence done as he realizes Piastri is better.
I couldn't even celebrate a 1-2 because of the team messing things up...
