  • How To Install A Ford Transit Van Tow Bar & Camper Rear Step + New Rear Bumper | 009
In this Ford Transit Camper Van Conversion episode, I fit a towbar and a rear step to my Mark 7 Transit Minibus.
Here's what I used in this video:
Transit Mk7 Heavy Duty Towbar: ebay.us/aUio5a
    Quality Stanley Rivet Gun: ebay.us/HYtxzC
    Towbar Double Step: ebay.us/IGWFAb
    Transit Mk7 Bumper Trim: ebay.us/jYwdIy
Although I don’t intend to do a lot of towing with my campervan it would be useful to have the ability to tow occasionally. Maybe hiring a car or motorcycle trailer if we need to use one would be a good idea. But mainly I thought it would be good to be able to mount a bike rack on it, and to include a step for easy access through the rear doors.
The rear trim which was a chequer plate had been dented by somebody reversing into a bollard or something so I replaced that at the same time. Changing this was a bigger challenge than fitting the towbar. I haven’t had a problem with pop rivets before but this time I went through 3 pop riveters, 2 bought new, failed while I was fitting it. Eventually I bought a Stanley pop riveter which was up to the job, although you’ll see in the video that I wasn’t sure if I was. Maybe I had bought the strongest 4.8mm rivets in the world.
The towbar fitted very easily. I noticed that the bolts that connect to the frame of the van would only go in one way, which was the opposite to the way they were shown in the exploded diagram in the instructions. I am sure that they will be fine, but it is annoying when instructions are not correct. Frequently they seem to have been translated through two or more languages, badly!! This isn’t the excuse here as it is a diagram.
The step meant that the electric hitch bracket had to be moved, but this wasn’t really a problem as there were plenty of bolts supplied.
Overall I am very pleased with how the fitting went, and I would recommend this type of towbar.
