Even with the less-than-stellar sound here, she is quickly becoming my favorite female singer. I actually put her on a level with Linda Ronstadt, and that is saying a lot! I know, everyone says Adel, but Brandi just kills it with these covers in a way I am not sure Adel could do. I have only started listening to her about 6 months ago, and with each new song I discover I am more impressed!
kevin zimmerman she is a multitalented, almost freakishly gifted singer. check out their old, obscure cover of Highway to Hell..they can cover anything. Zeppelin, Joni, Orbison, Cline, Elton, Sting, Sienaed, Cash, Willie, Parton, Emmylou, Jones, Eagles, Beatles, George Michael, Fleetwood, Stevie, Radiohead....etc....she can sing anyone.
Surprisingly, Brandi has a very long career and I didn't know about her because the music industry just wants to give us untalented pop artists. I knew about her because at the end of a movie (The Sweet Life) a song of hers plays and I loved it so much that I looked for it in Shazam. Since then I keep listening to her wonderful music. Super singer and songwriter; better human being. I love her with all my being. I hope to see her perform live one day.
I love Brandi, top notch. I was in the band with the man who wrote this song ,and Cyndi picked it up for a cover, The great ,Late Robert Hazard,It was surreal watching it all play out,and we didn't even play this during our shows. I asked him at rehearsal to play it like he wrote it,so very different,The main part is pretty close to his,but The part when Cyndi added, 'they just wanna' and so on was just a guitar riff w/out vox in that section. I also remember the day he came to practice/rehearsal,and said "Sony wanted to buy the right's out from him",we just looked at him,he was already well off, from previous 80s hits,so I said"well, we don't even play it,what did they offer?"He said"2 Mil" ,we all cracked up and asked him why he was even asking,no brainer. Great exp.and learned so much from him in the few yrs I toured w/him as his Bass player. RIP Robert. Also got to know and share the stage w/the Hooters, while with Robert. A real Pro. Rehearsal's were strict work,no noodling around, complete silence and followed his lead, very hard, esp since I worked during the day,and just started a family. I would have to go to NYC on a Thurs ,etc to play, and rush home and go right to work, great memories now that I look back. Go Brandi, love your work, that voice that just breaks,oh gosh, fantastic
I'm like speechless! How in the world did she take this silly little 80's song...and make it my favorite cover of all time! At least for the moment, due to this massive flooding of dopamine in my brain! Haha...and I'm a dude. Something very special about this girl. Saw her at CherryFest in norther michigan couple years ago, none my friends ever even heard of her and so I ended going solo, first time for that, but had a blast. She's an artist artist for sure!
Hi thanks for the comment. It was back in march 2015 in Atlantic City, NJ. Also saw her at radio city music hall in NYC. She always puts on a great show!
It's not a silly little song,I played with the man who wrote it,Cyndi made it sound silly and fun,yes a hit as well,it was written by a man also, many wouldn't think that. The late Robert Hazard, from Philly, wrote it,and many other hit's. I was in his band as the bass player when all of this went down. No song that hits the top, cover or not is a silly song, you need to know who wrote them. I love Brandi, top notch. I was in the band with the man who wrote this song ,and Cyndi picked it up for a cover, The great ,Late Robert Hazard,It was surreal watching it all play out,and we didn't even play this during our shows. Go Brandi, love your work, that voice that just breaks,oh gosh, fantastic .Most of those catchy country songs are written by silver haired writers like myself, and get sent out to suitable stars,in hopes of getting picked up. My friend wrote one and made it on Taylor Swifts record and went gold and Grammy,if you saw him,who wrote it,you'd think you were in line at Walmart. Just a thought and diff perspective. Peace.
A dude wrote it,see my other post........now you like it more? Yes Cyndi made it a hit, also made my boss and bandmate a multi millionaire, see post above for a diff perspective. Peace, and yes Brandi is amazing, love her work. She also didn't write 'The Story".......just silver or balding men about 50 years old, like myself, pounding out songs everyday and getting sent out of Nashville to prospective clients/stars. Peace
Where you were mistaken was in assuming that it was just a silly little song from the 80s. There's lots of gold from that decade hiding below the pop-culture surface.
I have a very vague memory. I was maybe 2 or 3 yrs old. I remember being in a dark club, smell of cigarettes, cigars, and whiskey. All the women wanting to take their turn holding me, saying, “You see your Daddy playing the drums.” I remember feeling so proud at such a young age.
I m so proud to have known you before fame. You have always so beautiful. I luv telling my kids I knew you before. They think your awesome as I do . BDM for the win .
Great performance. All real. Who cares about a little sharp or flat in a performance like this one? ....I say this as a proud King County, WA Resident. Brandi is one of those great artists: she displays her influences, but always puts forward her own voice and personality, and also displays an absolute love of music. So gratifying.
Brandi Carlile is the real deal my 22 year old daughter also think so it's nice when you and your daughter like a performer together and who wouldn't like this amazing talent and I like your covers and her Originals... She does a bang-up job on Elton John's Madman Across the Water! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
La miglior CoverGirl di sempre, Fantastica e irraggiungibile in ogni senso !!! Ah, my name is Angelo Cisotto and not Risotto. i'm Sorry for this mistake
. I love this video as the fun you give rubs off.. had me up and dancin' to this one this morn'... a wonderful song.. Thank you Xo Keep on doin' whacha love.. Cheers from British Columbia, Canada! Xo
CanadaPaul Where did she get that voice. I have been into music since Elvis and everything after I never heard a voice like that. Not Janis or Stevie Nicks no males every came close. I'm in love.
The fact that Brandi can sing Radiohead, Cyndi Lauper, Joni, and country simply shows her wide range of talent!
She does a helluva a George Jones cover…UA-cam
Some crazy good stuff w Hozier
I love just spending nights trying to find something cool on UA-cam...I was 19 when this song came out. This is cool.
Even with the less-than-stellar sound here, she is quickly becoming my favorite female singer. I actually put her on a level with Linda Ronstadt, and that is saying a lot! Her voice is just out of this world. Incredible.
Is there anything that Brandi and her band can't do wonderfully? Nope, never. They nail it everytime.
I love this opening so much. Her memoir is the greatest confession in music history.
Surprisingly, Brandi has a very long career and I didn't know about her because the music industry just wants to give us untalented pop artists. Hey, check out the movie, 'The Lucky One,' end credit song 'The Story.'
Such an underrated singer. I love everything she does.
Been a long time since I’ve heard a great drum solo.
I love her original songs! These covers? She rips them sideways and pulls them back together. Incredible and amazing talent.
That's a great way to start a set and get the crowd pumped! Brandi is awesome.

I found Her just now. Never can't thought that possible to listen repeatably 30+ min this song, amazing...
Brandi can really sing anything and her bandmates are all talented musicians

I hate drum solos, the rest isn't too bad.
Worst part of the 70s was the drum solos ...
this is from the 80's
How to make crap of a good song. Great example of doing just that.
awesome
