Australia hasnt forgotten ukraine. There hasnt been a day gone by that i havent watched footage of your battles or checked telegram for the latest updates. We want to support you more, but keep in mine our country is the same size as Americas lower 48 but we only have 60000 people in our army, but only around 30000 of those are combat troops, and we have china constantly provoking.
With the way the world is going, I'd say you wont have to wait too much longer until we're all involved, but i do wish the EU would intervene. Ukraine will not fall. You either win, or we all go to war with you.

Their sense of humour is definitely on point. Look up "how to steal a Russian Tank." It's Ukrainians doing parody videos about hijacking abandoned Russian equipment. President Zelensky himself sort of joined in on the joke by declaring, "there will be no taxes on salvaged Russian equipment." Personally I'm curious as to what the Ukrainian farmers do with them. Post WWII, a lot of surplus tanks were turned into heavy duty tractors on farms

Although I enjoy our Aussie sense of humour regarding our "dangerous" country trope, it's concerning to see how often foreigners accept this as truth nowadays. There used to be a lot more humour and explanation in threads, but nowadays it's more common to see genuine fear from those with no experience of Australia. It's disappointing to hear them not wanting to visit our fabulous country for such unfounded reasons.

My favourite comment was 3:27 a Ukrainian, talking in Ukraine in 2023, says that Australia is a dangerous place to live! The main thing though is that Ukrainians have a good education system and learn a lot about other countries - most Australians are so ignorant they would not know nearly as much about Ukraine, which is very sad. But in the last two years we have come to know a bit about Ukrainians and to love them.

Ukrainian people would be surprised by how much we think of them. Australia is determined to assist Ukraine as much as possible and most Australians are aware (and care) about the situation in Ukraine. Even if support from the Australia government was to drop off, the people would insist we do all we can. We consider Ukraine a friend and we feel outraged that this is happening to our friend. I hope knowledge (and friendship) grows between us. Although the information is correct, there is too much emphasis on deadly creatures. It is not what dominates life in Australia. We have a good lifestyle, we are honest and open hearted people. I had planned to visit Ukraine before this war started and I can't wait to fulfil my dream when life returns to normal and justice is achieved. We will always help our friends.

The Soldiers used about 50,000 rounds, and only managed to kill a handful of Emus. Running out of ammo, our Soldiers bravely retreated...
This actually happened twice. It may be why First Australians never adopted a bow and arrow. An Emu's feathers stop any arrow before it hits anything important, and arrows either bounce off a kangaroo, or piss it off. Neither's a good result.
Currently we're losing Wars against Camels, Water Buffalo and Cane Toads. All of which we introduced. 😥

After this complete disaster the government returned to the original plan and issued ammunition directly to the farmers, who were mostly verterans of the First World War. After that emu numbers were reduced, but not to the level desired by locals (that being zero).
The aboriginals had no need for bows as the woomera is an all weather weapon (a bow is definitely not) and a woomera provides more punch for less work/weight/effort/training. A spear driven by a womera would go through an emu regardless of its feathers.

who has time to look around when you are being torn apart by a great white shark?
That said, I have not seen every deadly snake I've accidentally kicked until after I've kicked it and subsequently returned to the ground. I have been bitten by several red backed spiders (all at once) and I did not see them until i shook out my clothes looking for them. I have been stalked by a saltwater crocodile and had to detour around massive Roos with attitude.
It is reasonable to say you don't actually see them, but unreasonable to leave out " until it is to late".
The Emu War has never ended. The Dingo War is the real story. Koalas are functionally extinct ( that cute look is actually inbreeding and they are genetically doomed ) This place is a saga.

The young lady recognised that Australia is (currently) not in dire conflict with any country. The experience of Australia is so different from that of Europe. We have problems, have done wrong by the Aboriginal peoples and are vulnerable to China, but we have a different mentality to Europeans who have had to live generationally with conflicts with neighbours at huge cost. Australians do support Ukraine in this war of aggression by Russia that is seeking to impose its imperialist vision on the country and people of Ukraine. We see Ukrainians as independent people and they have proved to be resilient, innovative and strong. My view of Russia and Russians has plummeted since Putin’s war of terror. I’d be happy to welcome Ukrainians to this country. We have a lot in common. The Russians can go jump.

Dingoes are estimated to have been here over 6,000 years ago. All the “large cities” above Gladstone or Exmouth have crocs close enough to town for people to see them. My favourite is the croc that crawled up on to the freshly laid concrete footpath in Cooktown right at the ‘Beware Crocodiles’ sign. Crocs are seen in Cairns, Darwin, middle of Mackay in the Pioneer river, and the outskirts of Townsville & Rocky.

LOL 3:30 ~ Buddy! Living in Australia, is not as dangerous as living in Ukraine. If we all owned a pet Taipan, then living in Australia wouldn't be more dangerous than living in Ukraine. How to explain this? There are a lot of very old jokes that have become part of the culture, the tradition. We used to joke to people from England, that we all rode around on Kangaroos. We told them Australian schoolgirls are taken out into the desert when they turn 13, and set loose, and if / when they walk out, they're accepted as adults. We told American servicemen in training for the Vietnam war, that Australia has drop-bears. A drop Bear is like a a Vampire or Werewolf version of a Koala. They drop from the trees and rip your throat out. Why did we tell them that? So they'd walk around all the time looking up and tripping over things, while we laughed at them. it started as a very simple joke from one Australian soldier to one American soldier, but it has become part of the national folklore.
There are a few very poisonous critters here, but you hardly ever see one. They do exist, but if you live a normal suburban lifestyle, you're not going to get killed by one. Or ~ ok, people do get struck by lightening, people do get squished under falling trees ~ examples of both have happened in the last 36 hours, within about 40km of my house. That doesn't mean those are normal things. It's probably not going to happen to me or you.
PS: If I see any drop bears I'll stick a postal stamp over one eye and post them to Putin c/o The Kremlin.
PS: Margot Robie is an Australian and we're very proud of her. If you judge Australia by Margot, that'd be excellent.

Wow. Your interview just gave us more reasons to love Ukraine and Ukrainians. So impressed by how knowledgeable the people you interviewed were. I'm from Aotearoa/ New Zealand and sadly, our new government is no longer doing much to help Ukraine but, l'm so grateful to Australia for their on-going help.
I know the man said he was joking about the Emu Wars but, they were a real thing - well, at least one war was.
"The Emu War was a military operation in Western Australia in 1932 to control the population of emus, a large, flightless bird that was destroying crops:
After World War I, thousands of "soldier settlers" moved to Western Australia, and emus migrated to the area in search of food. The Great Depression was also straining farmers' crops.
The Australian government sent soldiers with rifles to shoot the emus, but the operation was a failure.
The emus were quick and difficult to target, and the military only killed about 1,000 of the estimated 20,000 emus in the area.
The operation was deemed a failure, and the military withdrew. The emus continued to thrive, and farmers had to find other ways to protect their crops.
The Emu War is a bizarre chapter in Australian history that highlights the emus' role in the country's ecosystem and cultural identity.
The emus were considered the "victors" of the war."
