Wow. Enjoy it all.
Thank you!
I love art hauls, especially birthday or Christmas ones. Happy brithday for 8 months ago 🤣 Or happy birthday for 3-4 monghs into the future. If im going to be late, i may as well make fun of it
😂😂😂 Thanks! I will take it! No matter how many months away on either end!
Happy Birthday Shana
Thank you Rob!
Happy birthday 🎊🎈🎉
Thank you!
I've seen a pastel artist, Leontine Van Vliet, sharpen her stabilos with the faber castell triangular sharpener with success. I don't know how often she has to change it, but it works for her
And another pastel artist, Jason Morgan, that works predominantly with pastel pencils, has been using the swordfish crank sharpener for quite a few years and he just changes the blade when it no longer works well.
You can check them out. Morgan has quite a few videos about sharpening pastel pencils
Thank you, that helps a lot!
@@CautionArtistatPlay In my eyes, your new sharpener is the devil! Seeing that poor pencil disappear hurt a lot.
Happy Birthday 🎉
Thank you!!
Happy cake eating day !! The best pencil sharpener ive found for a sharp point on a pastel pencil without so much wastage is the hand-held t'gaal multisharpener. Absolutely a game changer!
Thank you!! I will definitely have to look into that sharpener! Thanks for the suggestion!
Happy Birthday Shana! I love the Pablos! They do work great on sanded paper! I’m impressed with the water soluble graphite sticks! So dark! Looks like you’ll be having lots of fun in the future videos! Thanks for all you share, you’re one of my favorite artists because I love all the details and your style is amazing!
Thank you so much Bel!! That means a lot to me! 💖 I was really impressed with the graphite too! I was able to find a 2b-6b set too, so I just ordered some of those so I can have a better range! I will have to do a piece with them soon! I'm excited to start working with the Pablos, too! I have so many projects I want to do, and not enough time to do them all! Lol.
Amazing birthday haul you lucky artist you. ❤ you got some great things! I love that you were very practical about your items. Happy birthday!
Thank you so much!! I am very lucky! 💖
Happy birthday Shana!! Good haul. I didn't know you had an interest in printmaking so I'd like to see you have a go with the grey printing plate. Love to see what ideas you have with it! TFS!!
Thank you! I took an intaglio printmaking class while I was in school, and it was really interesting! I fugured an easy, low-cost way to dip my toes in printmaking at home would be to do some linocut! I have done a couple of print making videos on the channel, I will definitely have to do one soon with the grey plate!!
Happy Belated Birthday!!! I really enjoy your hauls because there is such a variety of fun things to play with... 👍 I was wondering which Husky toolbox you are using for storage in your studio? Thanks again for the video!
Thank you! I'm honestly not sure what specific Husky tool box it is, my nephew gave it to me because he didn't need it anymore. It's amazing, though, and can really hold the weight of my paint. It was fully black, but I put contact paper on the drawers to spruce it up a bit!
@@CautionArtistatPlay Thanks so much! It's a great idea for heavier supplies! I'm going to take my husband to Home Depot! 😃
It works perfectly, I love it!! ❤️
Happy birthday!! 🎉 I’m looking forward to seeing you working with the Pablos - I was just thinking of buying some to use with my Polychromos. I also had my eye on the Granite Rose as it looks so useful for blending.
Thank you! I'm pretty excited to start using them. I'm pretty happy with the colors I got!
Happy Birthday Shana. Great haul, I love the toaster lol. Yes please, studio vlog’s (-: Marion ❤🎉
Thank you, Marion!! Isn't the toaster a hoot?! I love it! I will have to start doing some vlogs soon! Thanks for the feedback! 😊
Happy Birthday! I love the Pablo pencils. I have found that I like these and Faber Castell better than the softer pencils.
Thanks for your videos,
Kathy Busby
Thank you, Kathy!! I'm excited to start working with the Pablo pencils! Thank you for watching!
Happy Birthday, young lady! Nice haul! First, I have an electric version of the Afmat pencil sharpener, and I love it. Great for all my colored pencils and graphite and charcoal, too. And the blades are replaceable. I haven't tried it with my Pitt pastel pencils, which are still quite new, and I'm reluctant to. I'm afraid they might dull the blades, so I just use a good hand-held sharpener for them. Try out your Afmat with colored pencils. It might work well with them. Second, are you saying that the Holbein white colored pencils are as good as the Derewent Chinese white? I never thought there would be anything to rival the Chinese white! I really like Holbein colored pancils. I have a few I got open stock, but holy cow they are just TOO expensive! Third, the PanPastel colorless blender works really well, I think. It actually works much like Brush & Pencil's Powder Blender in terms of how it "feels" and acts upon application. Try it and let us know if you feell the same. Fourth, I have a few Caran d'Ache Luminance, but have never tried the Pablo line. I'd love to see you work with them. Finally (whew!), GO for more oil pastel videos! I've been working with oil pastels over the summer, then I spent (too much) money on soft pastels and am currently learning how to use them. Anyway, great video. I'm gonna check out the water-soluble graphite sticks, too. They look really nice. OK. Byyyye!
Lol. Thank you! I will try the sharpener with colored pencils soon!
The Derwent Chinese white is still my top favorite white pencil, but the Soft White by Holbein is a close second. Holbein has another white pencil that's pretty good, too. Soft White has a slightly different, creamy texture, and I find there are times that I can use that when I am not able to layer the Chinese white anymore. Likewise, there are times when the Chinese white works better. It just depends on the project and what I am trying to achieve. So I like both, but the Chinese White will always hold a special place in my heart because it has always been my top white pencil!
I definitely need to do an oil pastel drawing again soon. It's hard because I have so many things I want to do, and there is so little time!
I'm really excited about the graphite sticks, and I was able to find a set of 3 with 2b, 4b, and 6b to compliment the set in this video! I'm super excited to use them!
@@CautionArtistatPlayOk, then. I may have to spring 4 or 5 bucks to try out the Holbein soft white. I thank you, too for putting a link to the water-soluble graphite pencils. I'll definitely check them out. I completely understand about not having enough time to do all that you want to do. I myself have at least 6 or 7 projects I want to do... all at once! Look forward to any oil pastel video you may do. Ok. Byyyye!
Lol, yeah, it's so hard to decide what to start on first!! I hope you enjoy the soft white pencil and the water-soluble graphite!!
@@CautionArtistatPlayI'm sure I will. I'll let you know what I think once I manage to get them!
Love that brush cleaner! Happy Birthday 🎉❤
Thank you! Yes, the brush cleaner is fantastic!!
Happy Belated Birthday shana!!! 🎉 You got a LOT of nice supplies in your haul, kudos to you! I have an Afmat long lead pencil sharpener (it looks like yours) and it works great on my Polychromos, Pablo and graphite pencils, to get a long, narrow, pointy lead. You don't need to sharpen them as often because it maintains a point longer. I wouldn't use it on softer lead pencils (Prismacolor) because I don't know if they could handle additional pressure on a narrow lead without crumbling or breaking. I have not tried using it with my Pitt pencils, but because of their texture, I don't think that I would use it on them 😉 I can't wait to see what you choose as your next art project!
Thank you, Cheryl! And thanks for the tips on the pencil sharpener! I will have to keep that in mind going forward and only use it for harder pencils!
Happy Birthday!
Thank you!
Happy Birthday, late!!🎉
Thank you Teresa!!
Happy birthday! You got some great stuff! For such a long time I was curious about the Pan Pastel colorless blender then I obtained the Pan Pastel set of five basic colors (red, blue, yellow, black, and white) and I bought the colorless blender. I’m not an expert in soft pastels. I use the Pan Pastels to paint easy backgrounds and also not for it’s intended use. If I need to correct something on my watercolor painting and I don’t feel like messing around with water, lifting, scrubbing etc, and it’s an easy fix, I use Pan Pastels to add pigment or the colorless blender, on top of my watercolor paintings. I find that regular soft pastel sticks (I have some Sennelier soft pastel half sticks) and pastel pencils (I have Faber Castell Pitt Pastel Pencils) are too firm and I am unable to lay down pigment on top of the watercolor painting. Pan Pastels are great over watercolor. 😊
Also, regarding the Pablo pencils, I have a 30 pencil set in a tin. My cardboard sleeve says that are a ‘soft and resistant 3.8 mm wax lead’. Not that it makes a difference to me! Also, I don’t agree with the wording that they are soft. May be semi soft or semi hard. 🤔😀
Thank you!! I like using Pan Pastels for backgrounds and for an under painting for colored pencil, though I must admit, I don't use them nearly as often as I should! It's interesting that you use them to fix things in your watercolor paintings, I will have to keep that in mind!
As far as the Pablo pencils go, I agree, they are definitely on the harder side! They certainly don't feel like a wax-based colored pencil (though technically they all have some wax in them haha!)
@@CautionArtistatPlayyou’re welcome. 😊
Ohhh I didn't know you had a birthday Shana! Happy late birthday! Dear!!!🥳🥳🥳, I wish you many beautiful things, success and good health!!! 🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉Thank you for what you always do for us! I have to say that the Bob Ross toaster killed me! It's made me laugh, how curious! I would like you to review linolium for cutting? because I don't know what it's for, excuse my ignorance... I think that's what I understood... the Golden Acrylic Pouring Medium paint kit and for you to explain how to use the pouring😊😁🥰
Thank you, Claritza! I got a huge kick out of the toaster too! Such a fun gift! The linoleum is for linocut, a traditional printmaking technique! You carve the image into the linoleum and then apply ink. You then apply the ink covered plate to paper to create a print, almost like a stamp! I have a couple of printmaking videos on the channel if you are interested! ua-cam.com/play/PL2QyxD4oF_jWMo1gT2gYGo8OutHcmK098.html&si=HFCJAChnY53-8vQE
@@CautionArtistatPlay ohhh, ok! I understand now! Yeah, I think I saw this video...thanks Shana for the link, and for the explanation🥰
@claritzairosario68 of course, anytime!!
@@CautionArtistatPlay ❤🥰❤
I have that sharpener and Idonot lim it. I have never figured it eats pencils!
Yeah, I'm not a huge fan so far! Lol
Happy birthday! 🎉
That sharpener…my God, I even got a little mad when I saw that short pencil! Good pencils are really expensive and Afmat just killed that pencil! 😭 I think I would send the sharpener back -_-
Some of the Pablo-colors are really difficult to blend in my experience anyway 😊 a full set is around €250,- over here, but my jaw just dropped when I saw the open stock price of the Lightfast…around €4,00 per pencil. 😱 but I bought a second hand set of 72 (barely used) for €120,- so that just made my day 🤩
Thank you!! Yeah... I almost threw that sharpener across the room! Haha!
I'm hoping the Pablo's will do well with my oil pastels because from the tests I did a few years ago, they worked really well on sanded paper. Fingers crossed!
The Derwent Lightfast are definitely pricy! That's one instance where buying sets makes it less expensive per pencil. And the good thing about buying a set in that line is you know every pencil is lightfast, so you end up getting your money's worth. At least, that's how it is in the US. Open stock on Blick they are $4.89 each! But if you get a set, it ends up being like 2 to 3 dollars per pencil. It's crazy!
happy birthday 😊 The pablo are predominantly wax based like the lumis.
Oh wow! I had only ever read or heard that they are oil-based and that they are the harder counterpart to the waxy Luminance line. I think I saw them listed in one of Alyona Nickelsen's books as oil-based. Even Harry from the art gear guide classified them as oil-based in his review of them: "According to Caran D'Ache, the Pablo is indeed an oil based pencil, whereas the Luminance is a wax and oil mix based pencil, which is why so many seem to think the Luminance are 100% wax." All colored pencils are a mix of either wax and/or oil anyway, so it's really just semantics. Either way, they work great on sanded paper! Thank you for the birthday wishes!
@@CautionArtistatPlay Oh, that's so weird. I heard it from another youtuber who said they emailed the company. Also i've seen other places list them as wax 😱 As you say though, they have both and it's practically irrelevant. (Oh and I really trust Harry so they must be oil 😋)
So strange!! Haha, you just never know, I guess! 🤣
Acid testing pen??? Where do you find those? 👀
I got it on Amazon!! It's such a fantastic tool to have!
By the way, I noticed something on your voice. It’s not my intention to offend you in any way (!) but I noticed that you are a bit ‘out of breath’ at the end of a sentence. Is it possible that your breathing is too high? Like taking a breath from your ribcage instead of your belly, I mean.
If a person breaths most of the time from the ribs it can cause some things. For instance you can get lightheaded very fast or you feel really tired after using your voice for quite some time.
I’m not a doctor or anything, but for my work I had to learn how to use my voice in a proper way and breathe in the right way. When I learned that I didn’t felt tired in ‘my voice’ at the end of the day.
Hmm.. that's interesting! It's possible, I guess! I have also noticed the sound of my breath while editing, even though I don't necessarily notice it while I'm recording, so I honestly don't know what it is from. But when I hear it in my voiceover, it always makes me wonder. I don't tend to get dizzy too easily or anything. But I do get short of breath at times, sometimes while talking!
I honestly have never noticed where I breathe from, other than when I am doing a guided meditation and I am told to breathe from my belly. But that makes sense, honestly! I will have to pay closer attention!
Anytime I have gone to the doctors, they have said my breath sounds fine, but I did grow up in a house where people smoked cigarettes, so that always makes me wonder.
Definitely food for thought! I had never heard of the effects of breathing from the ribs. I'm definitely going to look into that! Thanks!!
@@CautionArtistatPlay I don’t believe this. Last night I typed an response and I linked to a website where they explain really well what your breathing has to do with your voice and what is can do if you don’t breathe well. I was searching on the net quite some time. And now I see that my response isn’t here! 😭
Oh weird! I wonder if UA-cam put it in my spam because it had a link, I will have to go check!
I just checked, and I didn't see it in my "pending review" folder, I wonder what happened there? I'm sorry you did all that research only for the comment not to come through! I will have to look it up and see what I can find for information. Thank you for all your help!
@@CautionArtistatPlay you are welcome 😊
