    Thank you for sharing this with people in the world . As a Japanese living in Russia, not even in Moscow, it's a lie People are suffering here . No food shortage or medicines. Oil and gas are same as before . I live between 2 supermarkets and shelves are full of products. There are 3 pharmacies near open 24hrs. Our company is working as usual even receiving orders ftom foreign customers. We had a first snow this week, but I live comfortably in a warm building with the central heating. Our office is even hot

    For everyone who says that there are few people in the supermarket. We go to supermarkets several days a week, without buying anything for a month or a week. So, many supermarkets deliver products for free, so there is no need to go to them. For example, I buy only a few basic products every day, I order the rest with delivery. Large supermarkets have also lost popularity with us, we prefer shops within walking distance and food delivery at home.

    I am astounded! I lived in Moscow for five years, 1991-96. It was the last days of Soviet Union and first years of Russian Federation. The difference could not be greater! The Soviet stores were like dark empty depressing rooms (one room). This market is like any fine city in the world. It's a real wonder how much Russian society has advanced. I want Russians to be a dynamic part of our world, not at odds with it. Let's exchange vegetables and shoes, not weapons.

      Truth be told, Russia bent over backwards to make friends everywhere, but their gestures of goodwill were abused. They tried, but got taken advantage of for a decade, and in spite of all the hardship and concessions they went through and agreed with to appease the western world, they were ultimately rebuffed and attacked anyway. So it ain't their fault stuff looks the way it does now.

    A comment for those who write: "There are too few people in the store" or "why they buy so few products." In Russian cities, people go to shopping centers mainly to buy clothes, go to the cinema, or go to cafes. Of course, they buy groceries there, but most people go for groceries to small shops that you can met every 200 meters. It makes no sense to go to the mall for food when you can go outside in 5 minutes and walk to the nearest store where you can buy everything the same. And also many many people use delivery services, and almost never go to supermarkets

    • @ArtStoneUS
      @ArtStoneUS 2 роки тому +10

      It also explains why frozen foods are not a big deal. If you can walk out your front door and buy your food within a block or two, it is easy to eat fresh food instead of Frozen.

    • @Gingerfox1
      @Gingerfox1 2 роки тому +14

      And need to mention - many people use dark stores delivery services (Yandex Eda, Samokat, Vkusvil etc). In Samokat service you can order food - and it will be delivered in less than 30 minutes, free delivery cost. Utkonos online supermarket delivers 24/7 and you can buy everything you need and choose night delivery, for example. Prices in these delivery supermarkets are almost same, mostly free delivery cost. People in big cities value their time because of long distances and traffic. So why spend few hours in the shopping centre if you can order almost everything online in few minutes. My family have been using Utkonos (first delivery service in Moscow) since 2006 - of course at that time it wasnt as good as now. I lived in Europe before 2020 - and there was no such smooth delivery service. Pandemic made changes, but I'm sure it is not 20 minutes delivery time or overninght.

    True about frozen food. Not much in Russia compared to European and American stores. It can be easily explained. Frozen food is more expensive in Russia than fresh food. Besides, unlike in the west, there are plenty of small(er) grocery stores in Russia where people go for short shopping several times a week to buy fresh produce. In cities and towns you can find a grocery store within 5-10 minute walk from any dwelling house. And a larger grocery store at every metro station. It does not mean that we don't have frozen food in our freezers. Plenty of it. But largely prepared from fresh food by housewives. Russian women like to know what their food is made of. I lived in the US for almost 15 years. Tried frozen food but it often disappointed me (too salty or too sweet, low quality oil, etc.), so I stopped buying it (except for few items). Now I am back to Russia and my freezer of full of frozen meat/fish balls, dumplings, chopped meat, etc. - I make everything myself from fresh meet. A great deal of frozen vegetables (bought at the farmer's market), fruit, mushrooms, and herbs. There are plenty of videos where women show what they cook and freeze regularly. Russian people (in Eastern Europe as well) still value freshly made food or, if frozen, then made at home as well.

    1) The most interesting thing is that people write, well, sanctions and should not have affected food, but for some reason they shouted in unison that there is no sugar in Russia and showed reports of empty shelves and queues on CNN and BBC, but now they saw that they couldn’t do anything make move out of topic.
    2) They say that it is for RUSSIAN goods, but as you noticed that most of your Western products, and even these Monkey-Cola and so on, Pepsi and Cola do everything just changed labels and office addresses. Like many other brands, you just don’t know all of them, but we have been using them for a long time, and we can distinguish them.
    3) Someone writes about the Internet communal apartment, etc. They can’t even imagine and won’t even believe that, for example, I get only 2400-2500 rubles per month for a communal apartment. Water Heating Electricity comes out, while I don’t deny myself anything and even sleep light, and my computer works 24/7 and the Internet we have a federal channel in it right away and Internet + Cable TV for 180+ channels in one cable, including the same CNN and BBC and others, and they think that we don’t watch any channels other than Russian ahaha and I pay only 820 rubles a month for it, I sit as much as I want, I download what I want, I watch any films, etc. we have no restrictions in this as they have everything for free.
    For them, in general, many things in Russia would be a revelation and a shock. Since they pay too much for a lot in the West, but for us, it has become every day. For example, shops in houses, beauty salons where girls go every day and gyms in every area with a swimming pool, where you also go as you like when you live nearby. In general, if you dig and if you show them a lot, they would wonder why they take so much money from us, and they even have a doctor’s house call Free of charge who will examine you, write out the direction of the pill you need and tell you where, regardless of whether you have a paid one health insurance or not. And there is a pharmacy in every district near the house. We still have such things as a medical reception point for each district so that you don’t have to go far to the hospital, but go through everything you need at the place of residence. Where all the specialists are not only the Therapist, but also the Surgeon and the Dentist and the point of delivery of tests, and everything is free and with excellent quality. Well, in general, you can show and show, but if people in the West find out about many things, who will they take money from in the West. Oh, and the most interesting thing would probably be for them to find out about the fines and taxes of which they have plenty, they would be shocked that we don’t spend almost a penny on this, and fines for cars are very rare. I just heard how much people spend on this in Germany and I’m just shocked my Aunt lives there.
    And they probably don’t even imagine that at school we have in the compulsory curriculum both Russian Literature, etc., and English / German and take us as much as Russian in programs for 3-4 couples a week (We have lessons are divided into pairs for example 2 Russian languages, 2 Physics, 2 Algebra and 7 Chemistry lesson for example and a week for 3-4 days, that is, 3-4 pairs of English / German with us). You just choose to study German or English and at the end of the school you can take exams on them. They probably think that we are Aborigines here and do not understand them and that our culture is so weak. But I won't upset them with us. A foreign language is compulsory in the program in every school in the country.

    Malls in USA (at least in the area where I live) are dead. They did good business until the year 2000. Then they suddenly stopped being a place to shop. Some are still open but the crowds are small and the buildings are old. Now most shopping is done online and delivered to your home.
    I remember in the 1970's & 1980's the malls were huge business, always crowded and so exciting to shop at Christmas.

    A huge eye opener given what we are hearing in the west regarding the sanctions. Other than higher prices, and a few international brands missing, there appears to be negligible impact. 94 roubles, or roughly $1.50US for 10 eggs is incredibly cheap. TBH I dont see how sanctions would ever have affected the supermarkets in Russia. Russia has loads of fossil fuel reserves and huge areas for agriculture and so they do not need to depend on other countries for these things.

      Exactly right, but if you look at the flow on affects, no parts for trucks, even truck companies have left Russia. How will stock get to the stores. Russell.

    Hi Russ,
    Thank you, interesting tour, amazed at the sheer size of the place.
    You would understand shelves and location in store , choice is all governed by product popularity, promotional marketing and pricing.
    I guess some products are more popular in Russia than say Australia therefore a larger selection is available.
    Interesting that water selection selving was greater than health care product's, it perhaps tells you a lot about Russian priorities.
    They the Russian's could perhaps teach us a lot about promoting local businesses and farmer's.
    However I think we do it reasonably well in OZ.

      The shopping culture is a bit different here; healthcare products are usually bought at dedicated stores, namely large pharmacy chains like 36.6, or online via the local Amazon alternatives (Ozon and WildBerries).
      I had a problem with that when I first moved here two years ago; I couldn't find gel antiperspirant at any of the supermarkets 😁

      There are drug stores in russia, we are not accustomed to buy medicines in stores, because it feels unprofessional for Russians, because in a drugstore a personell has medical education and can advice u what to buy. So western habit to make everything sellable made u addicted to drugs and uncontrollable antibiotics spread, which causes bacteria resistance to medicine

    Already in November, the city will begin to prepare for the new year. Bright showcases, garlands. Be sure to take a video. It's good that Russia is self-sufficient in terms of energy and resources, otherwise the first thing we would have been left to freeze in the dark
