I have returned to my roots, and decided to visit the most popular and most known Russian Supermarket. I have a question for everyone, is there a "Typical Supermarket" in the city of country where you live. One that the entire country knows and shops at ? If you want to follow my daily adventures in Russia, join me on Telegram: t.me/travellingwithrussell
Russell I'm not trying to have a go or anything but you do realise why your parents especially your dad want you out of russia?, the laws being considered are going to make foreign nationals apply for citizenship in russia or leave . Especially if your from what they call unfriendly countries, which will then put you at risk being a Russian citizen with a passport to be conscripted if they decide. Use your chance to get out and home while you have the chance.
@@guy.l8147 I just researched about what you said and I was correct when I said it was bullshizer. You have to stop believing the corrupt western msm, I did about 30 years ago not that I believed them much before then.
If someone told me I'd spend a half hour watching a video on Russian supermarkets... well, it would be on brand for me. I love these videos! Greetings from Seattle!
I live in a small town in Idaho. We have two main stores, Wal-Mart and Albertsons. Very commercial big box. My husband and I shop at a less well known - Grocery Outlet. Food that would be thrown away like Christmas M&Ms are on sale for deep discounts. The interesting part - cheese, meat, and produce are organic ! We look carefully at expiry dates. However, we've never gotten bad food. They even sell high protein cat and dog food, too. ❤😊 We pay $7 USD for a dozen eggs.
Those are some seriously cheap eggs. 70 cents for 10. Even if you apply the old 4.2 fudge factor of the dollar/wage difference, they're cheap. I haven't been to an Albertsons since HEB chased them out of town. I always remember them having good customer service. Then again, that was a while back
I love how he talks to the viewer throughout his videos, nice explanations, steady camera, and the longer videos make for an enjoyable pleasant channel experience! ❤
In Pyaterochka there are wall-mounted barcode scanners to find out the price of goods, in other supermarkets, for example, the Magnet chain, they also have them. In your video you can see the scanner at 10:07 under the exit sign.
it's technically common in Australia too; but just for some potatoes which are there to fill a void created by our supply lines; To imitate a thick skinned starchy fluffy potato which can only be grown in a small region of Tasmania down under. Frozen food and dining industry buys up all of our potats decent enough for frying or mashing, so supermarkets here only have super dense thin skinned waxy roasting potatoes to sell. They purposely leave the dirt on some as a ploy to fool daft consumers into thinking they have a choice.
Whole sale supermarket would be interesting to see with bulk pricing! I like stocking up on things like coffee. My husband believes he would be a dead man if we ever ran out of coffee. 😂😂
@KimClark61 I am trying to get a special permission to film a very large wholesale place. It's open to the public, but its a little more challenging filming in there.
I live in a small town in the Ryazan region. We have 8 Pyaterochkas, 7 Magnits and other local stores. I prefer to buy groceries at Magnit because my mother works there. But Pyaterochka is really the most famous store in Russia.
Good morning Russell, everything in the US is washed. In Florida our local and most known supermarket is Winn dixie and Publix. Each state or region has its own chain of supermarket .
@@TravellingwithRussell Walmart was always the largest retailer in the states, now they've gone on to become the largest grocer also. Where I live I have the model Kim was discussing. We have Walmarts, and a regional chain owned by a Dutch conglomerate.
Russell, JFYI sports drinks like Gatorade are usually not sold in supermarkets, however it can be found in specialty stores that sell nutritional supplements for sports - proteins, weight gainers etc.
@lynnebiliskis8716 the owners of this chain are called "X5 Group" the largest supermarket company in Russia. They set the prices. For certain important items, like food basics, the government is working with the companies to make sure the prices remain low.
I make my own Big Mac sauce at home by mixing mayo, ketchup and a little sweet relish. I don’t know if that’s how it’s actually made but to me it tastes pretty similar.
If possible can u do a video of a radio control car hobby shop if they have them there . I'm a huge fan of your channel saying hi from chillicothe ohio in USA
One of the differences I noticed between the stores you visit, and stores in the states... Is that the stores in the states seem to be more uniform, they're cookie cutters versions. I'd wondered if some of the Russian chains were more flexible. They are told they have X square meters to operate in, and they tailor a store to fit.
The original “sports drink” was developed by the US army to keep soldiers out in arid desert areas hydrated. This version had a lot less sugar than the commercial brands available to the public in the US.

Bingo! That is why vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, onions, etc. are usually not washed in Russia before sale, although many washed ones are also sold. The buyer always has a choice. In addition, after washing, vegetables and fruits are stored much less without CHEMICAL treatment, even in refrigerators.
There are unwashed spuds here in Australia Russell, and washed and different types. They are much cheaper over there though! (Here they are about $2/Kg) Milk is about $2/L and cheap butter here is $7/500g. Thanks.
