Join me, as we dive into the incredible journey on Boston Celtics draft pick, Tony Allen and his incredible career with the Memphis Grizzlies and the New Orleans Pelicans.
Tony Allen, is considered by many to be the greatest defender of all time. But, the crazy part about this is, Tony Allen came into the league as an athletic wing scorer. His 40+ inch vertical, insane speed and incredible athletic skills meant it was difficult to keep him in front of you, and his jumping ability made him a decent shooter.
However, a horrific injury in 2007 would take this all away from him, forcing Tony Allen to have to re invent his game, otherwise, he would have found himself out of the NBA.
Thank you all for tuning in! This is my ode to one of my favourite players of all time, Tony "1st team all defence, Grind father, Grit and Grind" Allen and those so fun to watch Grizzly teams. I truly loved listening and learning about Allen's career, his new Podcast with ZBo, "Out the mud" is a must listen for sure.
I hope you learnt something new about who might be the greatest defender of all time!
As a Grizzlies fan who loved the grit n grind era Tony Allen was my favorite player. I miss his antics and defense on star players. It was insane watching his effort on the court.
Tony Allen aka The Grindfather was the Heart and Soul of the Grit and Grind Grizzlies.
Man, he was a fercious defender.
As an Oklahoma state fan, I remember watching Tony in Stillwater as a kid. He was a BEAST!
it seems that a lot of his his energy dunks before his injury have "foreshadowed" his injury as he always lands either on one leg or very awkwardly, which probably put a lot of strain on his knees and legs
Yup, you can for sure see it, every time he landed early on was always kinda off, sorta like Ja now days
Derrick Rose too.
Tony allen was a dawg i respect players that find other ways to be great instead of just scoring
facts, impacted winning every single night
Really cool how his approach was based on a really high defensive basketball IQ. We're more used to seeing bball IQ in terms of offense.
5:57 had ray allen and tony allen mixed around 💀
Big Davis, Rasheed Wallace, Tony Allen, Nate Robinson, Rajaan Rondo, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett?!?!!?
Rajan and Davis have done some questionable things since the league, both arrested and done drugs.. Rasheed has the most amount of technicals so if David Stern was still alive I don’t think this would happen either. but like if they all were considered good boys then WOULD ALL THOSE GUYS BE HALL OF FAMERS???!! MAN YOU GOTTA GIVE THE LAKERS RESPECT FOR WINNING AND EVEN KEEPING UP!!
I wasn't rly that into basketball before watching your videos and now watching almost all of them I'm super invested in the game thanks and keep uploading
Bro that means so much to me man. I’m so glad you are enjoying the amazing game that is basketball and doing so through my content. Means so much!
This is an amazing documentary. Keep up the great work. You just earned another subscription.
Top 3 all defensive. (No order)
Ben wallace, tony allen and dennis rodman
Elite list
Yall TikTok ball fans glaze Rodman and Ben Wallace so much. Draymond slams so hard. Dray played in a nba that favors the offense unlike Rodman and Wallace
11:15pm upload ❤ Guess I'm watching this one before i hit the bed 😂
my man!
Love your channel, dude. There aren’t many out there doing these kinds of longform, narrow-focus basketball documentaries. Reminds me of Secret Base/old SBnation
Thank you for the kind words bro, means alot to be compared to amazing channels like Secret Base and SB Nation!
Imagine if Tony never went for that tragic dunk
He was a star Role player not star player
fair comment, I think a defensive star none the less
Another great video man
Thank you Dullah! Really appreciate it
alright! time to make tony allen build in 2K and see how it goes.. thanks!
he'd defend you with a full court press, insane
Definitely one of the top on ball defenders!
100%
he had a great work ethic but a fundamental misunderstanding of what he needed to do to help his team win. he thought upping his defense was the key, whole time he just needed to develop a jumper.
Crazy thing is I watched TA make every single pull-up in pregame. Game starts everything went short.
Defense... He didn't have the lift anymore to shoot over contests, he didn't have the speed to get around people, he just lost his legs so it made it easy for defenders to key on him.
@@gordonlove5121he was an athletic beast before the injuries
Have to say. That dunk attempt after the whistle where he got hurt is one of the dumbest plays I have ever seen. That's what showboating can do for ya. Really disrespectful to the opposing team as well
If you feel disrespected by that, you're too sensitive.
TA was all D!!!
That's why we like him on a similar level as Dennis.
25:32 i get that Mike Conley is only 6 ft 1 . But Chris Paul is shorter than him by 1 inch.
The reason why the Gasol trade to LA was so bad for Memphis, is because they hired Jerry West to be their GM, who had been with the Lakers for decades. He pretty much gifted Pau to the Lakers in one of the most rigged deals in sports history. He had no idea that Marc would be as good as he was, and he was still never in the realm of being as good as Pau. Pau was the Grizzlies star franchise player. No one makes that trade but Jerry West
I always wondered what happened to him,,,,always remembered he had a high energy for the boston celtics
His podcast is amazing, check it out!
Rudy "willhe" Gay has been tough to roster in every system in the NBA.
Tony Allen from mean streets of Chicago.
On 2k I would run
OJ
Tony
Rudy
ZBO
Mark
Put Tony on other team best player as long as they were under 6 ‘10 Mann good times
What you get out of this is that, unless you're a 3-5, if you can't SHOOT a lick, it doesn't matter how good your D is, you're a massive liability.
Other teams' ability to simply ignore dude in critical games made him the weakest link ...over and over.
Bro defense was cold
I think wemby is gonna take his place as the defensive goat ngl
Wemby has a chance for real, that no jump block today was just insane
(Gets eliminated in the playoffs due to poor offensive game)
“He was distraught”.
(Proceeds to do nothing to improve anything about his offensive game to make himself somewhat useable)
18:58 “Plaoyffs” lol
whoops...
mike conley next?
The guy who couldn't score and the youtuber making a 50 min documentary about it but still got me, a sub-casual, to watch it. I don't even know who this guy is
Doc Rivers is such an idiot for benching TA
They should’ve subbed it would’ve saved them
Doc Rivers only gives rookies chances due to injuries 🤦🏽♂️ having a coach like that is so annoying.
I used this guy Tony Allen on my MyTeam before just for defense along with Kim K ex Husband. I only use Kobe or Jordan as my scorers.
So, Doc Rivers just choose lose the 7th Game?
Looked great, but I give it to Dennis rodman, anyone who is 6'7" and give Shaq fits in the post has to be up there as greatest defender ever, i mean no one stopped shaq, Dennis was the closet
Amazing Video
My man
Out Of Bounds can you do Kawhi Leonard story a fun guy turn into quiet player please? i love your story man about basketball 👍🏀🔥

@@Outofboundshoops you will come too soon here anytime most of Filipino love basketball too it part of our culture aswell even watching NBA especially my first team i really inspired & loved was Boston Celtics especially my nickname (Red) come from legendary head coach Red Auerbach (but i really love color Red because my favourite colors for my name 😅) before i moved as a Blazers (west) and Bulls (east) fan and growing up watching Michael Jordan and playing NBA 2K drafting me to Blazers (my first team) to know history and started Damian Lillard era that how i learn playing basketball man. 😊🖤❤️🐂☘️
Ben Simmons can learn a few
How is he better than HOF Dennis Rodman?
Ben an tony the best shitty scorers in leauge history
First Team All Defence
I just wish he worked on his shot more..
Thanassis before Thanassis
FIRST TEAM ALL DEFENSE

lol they subscribed to out of bounds
The real reason why Tony Allen said "grit and grind" is when he ... Read more
I don't understand how his leg being jacked equates a good jump shot becoming a trash jump shot.
Daaammnnn LeBron.. Nobody EVER shut Jordan down!! 😂😅
Goat status denied!! 😅😂
Lmao this guy is me I’m all defense, but I can be wide tf open and just can’t hit anything 😞can dribble and get open but can’t score for jack but got some defense
Don’t advertise for gambling, shill
Hakeems the best defender ever and its not close
Draymond green is so much better. Better perimeter defense and better IQ and at a shorter height. IN A LEAGUE THAT FAVORS THE OFFENSE AND MORE SKILLED PLAYERS.
Yo im early
im early
dayumm i very early
