Actually string players dig playing these types of lines/figures. Long sustained notes are the things that bore them to no end. 😊 I’m sure the low brass also appreciate Cole’s writing because they are so often relegated to playing static pedal points. This whole album is such a delight and each track reveals the care and skill taken. One of the bright spots of 2024. Thank you Louis for your artistry. :)
@@TouchField strings actually aren’t too hard to write for. They balance themselves. Voice leading is still important to get a nice sound of course and contrapuntal movement always sounds really good. Strong divisi writing can be very effective- this is when a composer sub divides the parts within each string group- ie violins have multiple lines, viola and celli. The more you subdivide each string part however, the less powerful the line is as you have less players dedicated to each line.
He's the undersung hero of KNOWER in my opinion. Louis and Genevieve are amazing, and every ensemble member they bring in is a master of their craft. But Sam...man that guy is beyond it all. You can see with the passion and skill he plays that his bass is literally just an extension of himself.
Let it happen is one of my favourite songs ever. Now having a third version of this song feels like a birthday, Easter, your own marriage, the birth of your first child and Christmas all at the same time. Thank you a lot Mr. Cole, hope you are doing well

I’m also a huge fan of this song! I still remembers the chills I got listening to it the day it released, it’s my absolute favorite song Louis has ever made. This is a lower quality recording but here’s the first ever performance of the song, uniquely features a 4-5 minute long orchestral Disney’esque intro: ua-cam.com/video/ZhkMy-y2SHc/v-deo.htmlsi=ER4bFLc0VdeKTEJY I was really hoping this new orchestral version would feature it but it seems like it will forever only exist in this recording.
C.S. Lewis spoke of a profound emotional experience that shaped his spiritual journey: an “inconsolable longing… for we know not what”-a yearning for “something that has never actually appeared in our experience.” He described it as a desire for “our own far-off country” and “that unnamable something, desire for which pierces us like a rapier.” From his youth, Lewis experienced this through encounters with art, literature, and nature. I feel it too when I hear this song. It's a painful sweetness, a mixture of joy and grief that reminds me of a place I've never been and can't get to in this life. A wonderful place.
Yeah, feel this for many years! Especially by special songs like this or nature events, e.g. a sunset, God‘s beautiful creation etc. One german worshipper named Albert Frey once called these experiences „in between experiences“ (Zwischenraumerfahrungen)
From a close friend of his..."There were two musics progressing at one time before the seat of Ilúvatar, and they were utterly at variance. The one was deep and wide and beautiful, but slow and blended with an immeasurable sorrow, from which its beauty chiefly came." -J.R.R. Tolkien

That's what gets me. How many of them knew how important it was by the time it was over? Watching some of the artists in previous videos tells me that they did.
Just so incredible. I don't know what to say. When those strings come in.... look I'm 57 and you're making me cry and I don't know why. One of the most gorgeous things I've ever heard. This feels like the culmination of everything I've ever listened to. I have no idea why this music is not on everyone's playlist. It's like Morricone, McCartney, Bacharach and Nelson Riddle all got together and said, "We must have one good collaboration between us in us...let's get Louis and the gang to perform it for us."
Hell yeah man I'm a 41 y/o classically trained pianist and general melomaniac and Louis is one of the best things I've heard, and believe me there's some BIG names in that list. I love that he doesn't compromise tenderness and emotion. I mean when he makes a ballad, he makes a f***ng ballad, you know? He won't compromise the emotional component for a fear of being corny, and that's alright, because he can't be corny on account of being a damned genius. Simple, complex, cheeky, tear inducing, he can do it all
when i first heard LC experimenting with the extreme falsetto voice i doubted him... fast forward a few years, and hes one of the greatest who ever used it. Lesson: never doubt LC
I loved it when I saw it, especially because in other tracks of the album you can see her being so focused playing the violin, and seeing her enjoy so much what's happening around her on this track warms my heart.
With a genius of Cole's caliber, it doesn't make sense to limit the palette to standard funk instrumentation. It would be like forcing Raphael to only paint with red, green, and blue.
The writing. The arrangement. The performance. The mix. And then the visual component... Do we even deserve this? It's way off the fucking mark. Thank you, LC.
I love the feeling when i stumble on a magnificent piece of art that touches somewhere in me so deep, mysterious and precious. Oooh my goodness, I just grabbed a roll of toilet paper for the tears. This song has always had a poignant and spectacular beauty for me. Watching this morning really got me
AbsoLouisly beautiful ... The opening chorus, harmony, ... and that buildup to the "chorus" section with the repeated, climactic string passage, starting @ 2:25 - is so magical ! Love the whole song / arrangement !!!!!!!!
My 2 year old loves the I’m tight video and other dancey songs. When the original video for this song came on I braced for her meltdown to change the weird and slow song. But instead she “let it happen” and crawled into my lap to watch it together. We swayed back and forth for the whole song. Thanks Louis Cole for another beautiful moment.
