When you realize you meant Guenther and not Gauthier...
In the video about franchise ratings, you said Drury was in Philly instead of Briere. But we knew what you meant. It's all good.
I keep up with the NHL more than the average casual but its only about half of how much you keep up with things and I still mess players up when talking to my friend about hockey stuff. I remember recently I mixed up bedards position. I was calling him a defenseman when he isn't. Its admirable everything you do. It just shows youre human just like all of us when you have tiny slip ups
"See this little mistake is proof he hates the Canucks" -- Some idiot UA-cam commenter
In all seriousness though, I love watching your hockey content. You pump out so much quality content and you are a human being, not a robot, so slip ups are going to happen. If anything it shows me you aren't a terminator, so that's good haha
That explains why I couldn't wipe that weird smear away...
Also didn't daliwal say myers bonus is payed on the 15th not the 1st
Toffoli was just in spittin chiclets. Great interview, highly recommend it. Anyway, he spoke how weird the Vancouver situation was. He said he loved it there, liked the team, even talked to his family about settling. Apparently Benning and Co just completely ghosted him. Radio silence.
That's mystifying and just bad business. They clearly didn't want to re-sign him, which is fine but be open and honest about it. Players talk to each other and want to deal with GMs who are good people.
Yep, they gave that money to Virtanen and traded for Nate Schmidt. Both players were gone the following offseason....... Benning was a master at shitty asset management.
Dont forget what we GAVE UP to rent him for a third of a season 😵💫 transcendently bad management
Shannon give it up, we all know you’re Patrick Kane in disguise
I thought he was Bettman in disguise
He's a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude!
Skin suit
Dustin Byfuglien
D.B. Cooper's lost love child.
Vancouver is a terrific hockey city but unfortunately the ownership and management simply aren't on a par with that.
every Canadian hockey city is great tbh, all nhl city but Arizona 😂
Honestly that OEL trade honestly bombed any hope they had on being good any time soon lmao, Jim Bennings greatest hit so to say
Tyler Toffoli trade was worse.
Yeah that trade had a lasting effect that will handcuff the team for awhile. Benning made some horrible decisions.
@@maxpowr90 I thought the Toffoli trade was fine. Madden never played for them and Schaller wasn't very good. So they basically only gave up a 2nd rounder and a 4th rounder (which they got to keep cause conditions weren't met).
The worst part there was that they didn't re-sign him, since he was good when he was in Vancouver. So that was bad, but at least not a boat anchor on your cap for the next few years.
The Beagle/Roussel contracts were bad enough on their own . But just when those contracts were about to end , he makes it a lot worse with OEL. Worst GM ever
I loved the people defending it and saying OEL and Garland would do better with us because Arizona has zero scoring power. Good times............ hated that trade from day 1
"He hates and loves The Canucks, as he hates and loves himself." -Gandalf, probably.
That Tyler Toffoli trade was Jim Benning's magnum opus as GM.
That post-bubble offseason was his magnum opus. Signed none of those pending free agents and they allll ended up in Calgary together. Re-signs Virtanen and signs Schmidt and Holtby and all three of them get bought out the next off season. Then he fires off one last rage against the dying of the light hail mary throw to save his job by trading away a final year of Beagle, Roussel, and Eriksson plus a 1st, 2nd, and 7th for OEL and Garland.
Fucking bravo, sir. Bravo.
Schmidt did not get bought out. He was traded to Winnipeg.
The trade equivalent of a fart that gets stuck in the couch cushions for the rest of its use
lmao no, the OEL trade will go down as the worst trade in the history of the nhl, it completely wasted the prime years of the two best players in franchise history
Wasn't even a trade he let toffoli walk for nothing
I don’t know how anyone can see how the team treated Bruce and think this is a well ran organization.
It was management not the "time" = team. The player respected Bruce, but for obvious reasons could not speak out at the time.
@@Lazzar1958 Those players who liked Boudreau were focused on fattening up their Point stats at the expense of playing a two way game. Horvat was one if the worst culprits with his big contract opportunity coming up. Boudreau didn't hold players accountable and team play was non existent. Rutherford was was stuck with Boudreau despite seeing his limitations during year one. Seeing the fan base getting teary eyed about Boudreaus firing is hilarious and totally irrelevant.
Well I, along with MANY others disagree & I am speaking about the way his dismissal happened. As a Coach & as a man, it was disrespectful!@@DJEK44
@@DJEK44then fire the guy and move on. There’s nothing wrong with realizing the fit isn’t right and changing things up. Don’t leave the guy hanging in the wind and just fire him. They could have had an interim coach for a few weeks like every other team that has fired a coach mid season.
@@joshuabrownell3993 Whatever. With this ownership you never know when the next step towards the cellar will occur. I don't blame Pettersen if he chooses to leave.
As a fan of both the Red Wings and the Canucks, I really hope Hronek and Suter do well in Vancouver!
Go Canucks, go Wings
Just seeing the headline I just needed to make a comment because I'm one of those people that got mad at him a few times over the years thinking that he hates the Canucks. once I actually sat back watched his videos and realize what he saying it's just the fact that most canucks fans like myself at times just don't want to hear the truth. And this to those fans he doesn't hate the Canucks he's just being real with us. Which is a far sight better than any media on TV
Or Canucks ownership and management.
@@Leafsdude that's pretty bold coming from a leaf fan.. just saying
@@canuckfreak007 Don't disagree
What're you talking about lol? The majority of us agree with Shannon.... This team has been poorly run forever and no longer has the mask of being a top team to shield it.
@@ironseguin9838 i think he meant he's not disagreeing with you.
As a diehard Canucks fan I always think you've always made really fair criticisms.
The one thing in this video I want to dispute is that Athletic poll. Fanbase D+??? Are you kidding? When this team is good, the entire CITY follows it. Everything revolves around the Canucks come playoffs time, and not every city with an NHL team can say that. I miss 2011...
I appreciate your commitment to posting hockey content.
It’s Labor Day in America and I still get a video from you 😊
Labour day today in Canada as well. All the more praise for his commitment.
I think Shannon works too hard. If he worked half as hard, he'd still be outworking all his competitors
It's Labour Day here in Canada today. Take care, THG is the best!
It is so hard to be a Canadian fan in the NHL. I'm surprised more Canadian fans don't hate their teams. I started watching hockey enthusiastically in 1967-68. I was fully in for 1969-70 as a ten year old and my team The Canadiens missed the playoffs. Next year they went on an epic playoff run and I was sold on the league, on the game and on the team. I had as easy a move into hockey fandom as anyone could have. My team from 71 on was competitive, always a threat to win the cup and they went on to win 6 cups in the 1970's , one in 1986 and probably the luckiest cup in the last 50 years with their win in 93. I have watched 8 victorious Stanley cup runs in my time as a fan .
Toronto fans haven't won since 1967. Vancouver (and Buffalo) and Winnipeg in both iterations have never won. Calgary won once in 1989. Edmonton won 5 times in 1984,85,87 and 88 and 90. Ottawa has never won.
It's brutal. No cup victories in 30 years from six teams.
But Vancouver has been around since 1971/72 and they have mostly been horrible with a couple flashing moments. Any team that just over and over again attempts to shore things up enough to make the playoffs is going to be in trouble.
Oh that trade was so stupid. At the time I'm thinking they were a year away from getting out from under Ericksson, Beagle and Roussel. They had finally waited it out. If they had done nothing they would have been better off. I think they were afraid to be seen doing nothing and just losing the players so they took a chance but it was a poorly calculated chance, especially when doing nothing is superior.
If they would have entered the rebuild when linden wanted to this team would be on the up swing like the devils but ownership wants seaon ticket sales and those 2 big home playoff dates.. been 9 years with out playoff games in vancouver.
I watched the latest episode of the Locked on Canucks‘ podcast (titled “Define the perfect NHL glue guy + the Vancouver Canucks PTO situation”), part of the Locked on Sports‘ pod series, and couldn’t help notice, in my UA-cam feed, a video about the supposed hatred of the Canucks by the THG UA-cam man. Although I cheer for the Leafs year-round and respect the number of Stanley Cups, whether before the 1966-67 season or since, the Habs have won, I look forward to hopefully seeing a non-Habs‘ Canadian team (NHCT) hoist a Cup before the Habs next appear in such a round.
There was early in my life a stretch of seven straight seasons to feature Canadian teams’ winning Stanley Cups, all but one of them by NHCTs. Following the 1989-90 season, not one NHCT has won a Cup, with such teams, combined, having made just five appearances in that round in more than 30 seasons that have followed, the most recent one by the Canucks to end the 2010-11 season.
To try to wrap up this post, I thought I would mention the title of the latest episode of the Locked on Flames’ podcast, another one in the Locked on Sports‘ series of podcasts, the episode in question titled “Are the Calgary Flames better than they were [last season]?” even before I had watched a second of that episode, I hadn’t been convinced the Flames, whose off-season, in my late-August video titled “Response to @OhNyquist video #offseason|s of various @NHL teams (discussion: 🇨🇦’s teams),” I had given an F to, had had a good enough off-season to see playoff action in 2024. It was no surprise that Jess Belmosto, the host of that episode and the main host of the relevant podcast, claimed the Flames hadn’t had a good off-season either. It’ll be interesting to find out how many Canadian NHL teams will this season see playoff action, particularly with, beyond the Oilers and Leafs, none really a lock for a playoff spot.
Which is a shit way to run a team and organization in Canada, fans are passionate for every team in Canada, fans will attend, fans will support but dollar signs is all aquishit sees. He could probably care less the team wins the cup, the money is what drives him
@@solidarity2049Vancouver will start to not show up if the team is bad for too long. Maybe not if the team has a proper direction for once though
@@45crisess😂 so it not like they are going to move .
Because the Canucks bring it upon themselves... every... single... time.
My question is more "why don't you hate the Canucks" this team deserves every bit of criticism and more. A 5 decade exercise in frustration
Learn to punctuate.
Thumbnail is on point, well done Shannon
As Homer said of his hatred of the Isotopes "Because I loved them once and they broke my heart" perfectly exemplifies my Vancouver born wife's sentiments. 😊
I think that maybe the optimism of the fans is due to the coaching (and GM) change, and the fact that they have picked up some good players-Kuzmenko, Hronek, Mikheyev. Who knows, _it could happen_ .
So your a Lotto guy?
Canucks forward-lines could be sick actually. They should have 3 scoring lines. Really good group of forwards.
your coverage and content is great!! deal with your favorite team the Canucks any way you like - you have provided full transparency on your favorite teams several times in the past - it's your channel, all good!!!
Don’t see this as hate, my man is just being realistic. One of the reasons I love THG is the non-biased stance he takes on all teams.
I love the little bit of blurring on the board 😂 trying for a little bit of mystery?
Please, stop paying too much attention to what other people say. Sometimes you're too polite and respectful for your own good)
Ill tell you why i hate the canucks, 5th worse winning % in the NHL, quite possibly one of the worst run franchises in north american sports if you consider how much money they make
The Kirk Mclean years was Vancouver best shot at a cup
Seeing as they gave up on Adams, Ronning, Courtnall, traded Linden, gave the C to Messier etc etc...
I can see how bias everything seems 😂😂😂😂
As a Flyers fan before the Briere announced "rebuild" I felt the same way about the Flyers as you do regarding Vancouver because other than getting lucky in 2017 winning the 2nd overall pick their respective 1st overall picks for the decade since their Stanly Cup appearance from 2012-2021 were: #20, #11, #17, #7, #22, #13*, #14, #14, #23 & None...
This shows you a franchise with NO PLAN because the best they would ever do is be a perennial playoff bubble team with NO real chance at winning it all playoff or ping-pong wise... Look at Edmonton, Toronto, NJD, Colorado etc. & their numerous top 5 picks!!! That's how you do a true REBUILD!!!
I'm 48 , been a Leaf fan my entire life, I honestly don't believe they will ever win a cup.
I'm 31 and I dont see them winning a cup in my lifetime 😂
I don’t see Toronto winning one ever again
Cubs won. Bosox won. Miracles happen. Doubt this group can do it
No Canadian teams would.
😂 calm down I see a cup but it going take time
Long time, im expecting the same result. Was happy with the off season moves, but also thought we should have never traded nyi's pick and should have looked longer term
What I can't stand is part of the fanbase losing their shit when the team performs where they're at on a development level. The hope this year is that they perform better this year; keep the bar and expectations realistic and be happily impressed if they do perform above. Very excited to see what happens this year and am hoping for some good competition/hard fights.
I actually have more hope then I did last year. While having a deeper centre depth position last season with Horvat, they were still really bad on defence.
This year they buy the bullet with OEL and redistributed the money to defence. Loved the Hronek deal. Coupled with the FA signings, the team is deeper on defence and should be able to improve on the pk.
The team could score but couldn’t keep the puck out.
Also Demko was out 3 months.
Providing he stays healthy I’m liking the makeup of this years team better then lasts.
That’s the reason I’m more excited this year opposed to last
It's like having kids. Just because you may be disappointed in them doesn't mean you don't love them
I'm a 30 year Pens fan, since I was 12. And personally I am WAY more critical of and harder on them than any other franchise. I suspect Shannon might be cut from the same cloth.
It’s a classic example of a Love/Hate relationship, but the memes on the Reddit Canucks page are priceless. ❤
Great video! Honest & realistic take
The title and thumbnail say it all 😂
Being super critical of a team is the hallmark of a die-hard fan. Often the most passionate fans of a team are also the most critical. Nothing wrong with that.
We all know no one hates the canucks more than their fans
They really make it easy to hate them.
It’s true. There’s even a Canucks fan podcast called “I Hate This Team.”
4:33 future seems dark until they realize the ownership needs to rebuild.
Facts dude, I hate that I love the Canucks
It's Benning we hate. He fucked up for years. Bizarre really.
I don’t even have to watch to know this is going to be a good one.
What is the penalty for not being under the cap when the season starts?
Tocchet and his army of coaches will get this team into the playoffs... i believe 🙏 😅
why is that lower left corner of the video blurred out?
haven't been watching that many Vancouver games its hard to be a fan up and down and drama
i like. the flying skate logo
I love the thumbnail.
The habs were in the same spot for years, but had a bit more luck with their goaltending. Glad we finally went the rebuild route.
The Hockey Guy does the ultimate heel turn and becomes a full blown Ducks fan. They have already been luring Shannon to go to the dark side…
And yet each year I come back ready to hurt again
If I were a fan of the Canucks, I would hate them too.
Has the bonus been paid to Myers? I thought that was to be paid out on the 15th of Sept.
I'm curious as to what's being blurred out
That is what happens when an owner surrounds himself with 'Yes' men.
Aquilini is the Canucks problem.
Very profesional analysis
Well I think you’re very impartial in your coverage and analysis
Those jerseys are solid
I believe !!!! Also, love your Videos !
Great jersey
Always keep it real
Usually every year I have hope a little bit but this year I’ve lost that hope until something genuinely happens, whether they have a good season and build on that or rebuild. I’m fine with a team being bad if they are rebuilding, but I’m done being hopeful for a mediocre team
Like Ray used to say "It's the no plan, plan"
Someone who has no criticism for the canucks at this pint in time would be less fan and more zealot
How long till Quinn ends up in NJ?
Is it just me, or did UA-cam auto censor names on his board?
Is it true Jim Benning wanted to draft Cody Glass instead of Elias Pettersson ?
Signing these lucrative contracts often leads to challenges for players, their fans, and their teams. It raises the question of whether the extra 0.5 to 1 million dollars is truly worth the potential drawbacks.
I think something might be wrong with your camera lens, just a weird blurry bit in the bottom 2/3 of the screen on the left side
Not sure if you’re using it to hide the one typo you mentioned or not so I thought I’d bring it up 😂
I hate that with hockey (and many other things) criticizing your team means that you don’t like them, which couldn’t be further from the truth!
As long as people keep packing the barn things won’t change
We're hardest on the ones we love.
At this point, if they're not in the race by trade deadline, they should firesale any asset worth anything off. We need to start stock piling picks.
I think any actual canucks fan hates the canucks. We suck so bad and it kinda feels like that will never change
I feel when you cover your any team, people will view it as a "hater" if you point out flaws of an organization. I'm a Bruins fan and see a lot of that on videos when discussing the holes in the Bruins roster. You aren't hating if you are being objective and pointing out issues with the team, whether that be with roster or the management.
shannon, we love to hate the nucks we all do. they are our favorite team but always disappoint 😞 🎉 there's always next year for us though!
I’m with you Shannon. We’re fans but we’ve been disappointed so many years in a row. On paper the team looks decent, but too many things have to go right
i didnt realize the cancuks traded away the pick that would be sandin-pellika for hronek.. oof
I think the Canucks are maybe the best example ever of the horrors of just make the playoffs mentality. It's a one way ticket to long term mediocrity.
If you hate your team, it usually starts with ownership and incompetent decision making. Eventually you reach apathy and root for other teams that you find more compelling.
I'm a Pens fan. It's going to be dismal when Crosby & Malkin are gone. But it was dismal for a bit before that too. Vancouver does have players that can carry and win games.
One of the big reasons that it took the Blues over 50 years to win a cup was that there were many stretches of time during that period when they were managed just to make the playoffs. Which usually meant trading a draft pick, or young player, to achieve that limited goal. Obviously, that’s not a way to build a serious Cup contender.
If they don’t turn it around this year then they’re officially done. The more things I see honestly the less hope I have. I like their team and their prospects. I’ll always be a fan I just wish they could be better
“If they don’t turn it around x year they’re done”
They always find a way to crawl back into your heart lol
@@NK73080 lmao they sure do
If Pettersson doesnt want to stay because they end up inevitably sucking, its time for a rebuild and a proper one. Trade everyone and stockpile picks and prospects and finally decide an actual direction to go in..........
As I Canuck fan, I want to believe .... but it has been a loooooooong & frustrating process to become a consistently non-playoff team that has difficulty meeting the salary cap.
This thumbnail is the most Canucks thing ever.
As a Canucks fan I'm going into this season ready for disaster,I don't think things will get better because this team loves to hurt me yet I still cheer for them😂
While they may occasionally go overboard, the fan who is more critical of their team is probably the most fair and rational of fans.
Go back to 2017 on the draft floor, 30 minutes before the draft ... If you were guarantied that Hughes and Pettersson would turn out to be franchise cornerstones and you could have them, would you agree to forfeit your 1st round drafts from 2019-21? They Canucks hit a homerun in 40% of the drafts in those 5 years. Drafting these 2 players offset the Canucks lack of 1st round picks in the following years. The biggest problem was the Arizona contracts they took on.
0:49 in. We believe!!!! 8 cups in a row. Whoooo!!!!
It's an eternal loop of sympathy and frustration looking at the Canucks and not being a fan of the team. Same with the Sabres really. The only team that raises more emotions in me is the Stars as that is my team, but those two come close.
Always root for them when Stars are out of the running and always hope that they don't do something boneheaded that sets them back.
Sabres are in a good place right now and there's hope, I wish that Canucks could be there too in a couple of years, less hopeful on that though.
Well, I think they are on some sort of roght track now actually.
He hates every team except the Coyotes and his best friend is Bettman.
50 plus years in the League and no Stanley Cup...what's to like?
I gave up on the Sabres and I need to see failure again before I give up on the Bruins.
It really is crazy New Jersey made the playoffs in 2018 3 years after Vancouver went through a rebuild (with Hischier which you could exchange for Pettersson just as a comparison) came out and are one of the best teams in their division and the Canucks are pretty much in the same place. Not trolling just putting it in perspective.
Why are the names blurred?
Get over the Boudreau firing. He was an Aquillini hire and as usual, the worst possible coach for this team.
Opposite Ottawa has done the rebuild, and we will see I think this year is it’s done properly. If Ottawa has a slow start again, you know it has not been done right.
There's a difference between hate and just being realistic. I'm an Oilers fan but after they went to the cup final in 06, they didn't make the playoffs for over a decade. And you better believe during that time I was very pessimistic, and realistically hard on them, even though I still loved them.
This time last year we were lauding TM for smoking DC (Duncan Keith) local guy. Wrong jersey
Reality vs What we want from our teams is almost always very different things 😂
The Vancouver fan base reminds me of the Capitals fan base. I have been a fan since 1974. The fan in me hurts with every loss. But the Caps won't rebuild either, and the fans are convinced Ovechkin can part the Red Sea and we will win another Stanley Cup. I wish the rebuild would start before a Montreal style collapse happens, but I seriously doubt it.
