I grew up with a dad that spoke very calmly and charasmatically with police 45 minutes after they were called by a neighbor that heard screams coming from my house. He punched me in the stomach, chest, and shoulders until I was unable to breathe. Bruises weren't visible as they were covered by my pajamas. Somehow I, a 9 y/o at the time, was never asked about what happened despite standing right there. Abusers are good manipulators, and his calmness in the body cam footage feels similar.

Being a domestic violence survivor, the greatest obstacle I encountered was the "good ole boy" mentality of the cops. One night he beat me (so bad that I was hospitalized for 8 days) in our front yard, witnessed by our children, neighbors, etc but the cops wouldn't do any thing because "they didn't witness any assault". My husband told them I did it to myself, they accepted that explanation and left me laying unconscious on the ground.

Fortunately my abusive ex boyfriend never hit me, but he made me so uncomfortable that it's well over a decade later, and I still haven't felt safe enough to date since.
Where I used to live when I was dating him, I got a new job. At a business 1.1 miles (just google mapped it) from the police station. Turns out I took the job of a girl who'd just quit. She was in the process of leaving her abusive ex husband and wasn't able to pay to move home, or maybe was told by her attorney she needed to stay until the case was over. I never got 100% of that detail. What I DID get, though, was that even with a restraining order, somehow he found out where she worked/that she did nights alone, so he came there, she fortunately saw him on the CCTV and called the cops after she locked the doors. Then he bashed the steel doors hard enough that the manager had to use his truck to pull one off the next morning to get in, broke into the business next door (glass storefronts on two sides) and tore it up while thankfully not figuring out how to go through the walls, and just kept attacking it while screaming that he was going to kill her for literally HOURS until it got late enough the next day that he was concerned people going towards work would notice him. Manager got there 7 hours after he had, the police never had (guess that city's got a huge crime rate overnight on Tuesdays. Must be the little old ladies at the bingo halls.) tore the door off, and called the cops to ask why the hell they still weren't there. Then they never arrested the guy because even with the CCTV and him breaking the business next door AND the restraining order, he never answered the door when they went to his place/was never at work when they went by. **shrugs** What? Like they should have made more of an effort or something?

she also FOUGHT BACK w/Brian. Then, I'd like to add-AND NOT 'DEFENDING' BRIAN NOR VILLIFYING GABBY but I think the PUBLIC IS WRONG to immediately 'go to' that because of 'normal human behavior and the gamut OF those depths of emotion we EACH have, DOES NOT DEFINE HIM-OR ANYONE ELSE-AS A NARCISSISTIC MONSTER!!!! They are both young in managing human relationship and the different values and emotions of each other. They each have different values, perspectives and convictions on different things, etc. They've BEEN ON THIS MONTHS LONG TRIP in CLOSE QUARTERS w/ONLY EACH OTHER to interact with and little breaks for 'me time' and or interaction w/anyone else to keep their own balance of selves. THESE DYNAMICS does not mean ANY PERSON in a relationship that perpetrates aggression that escalates to violence IS A NARCISSIST OR 'MONSTER' IMO. WE'VE ALLLLLLLLLLLL experienced gtg escalated to rage and very POTENTIAL of doing the same things ppl DO in relationships. If/that we decide to LABEL that only ONE TYPE of person does these behaviors is DETRIMENTAL to arriving to any analytical solution when we need to at least include 'how to manage your level of emotions in disagreements' etc. !!!! I think it's HORRIBLY WRONG that ppl are at his parents house 'protestinng' WHEN THEY ARE 'HANGING MOBS'!!!! HIS parents, IMO, MUST and, if humans which they are, having a gamut of confusion and emotions towards many facets! How/what THEY DO feel about Gabby, their own son and HIS actions-what to do n how to feel about THAT-their OWN self protection and/or IF they say anything AT THIS TIME WILL ONLY ADD FUEL to the fire(s) bc Public DOES NOT WANT TO HEAR REASON!!! THEY WANT A HEAD! IDK EITHER how 'evil' he is-I DON'T think he is AS EVIL as another human being REACTING to things he cld not handle. DID HE SNAP? Or IS he a sociopathic narcissistic. These 'studies' into his psychy do not evidence this EITHER BC EVEN THAT only evidences him in HIS PROCESS of figuring out WHAT his values and beliefs are. In THOSE, I see of him a person w/backing off in objective perspective and considering the input from the authors he's, at this point found. Anyway, different personalities, the 'isloation' of each other on a trip over looooong time that is, as it turned out to be, REVELATIONARY of each other and how much their differences were. Their relationship was slowly unraveling those things too which does not make him-or her-'EVIL or MONSTERS!!!! IT'S A TRAGEDY FOR EVERYONE CONCERNED AND COULD HAPPEN TO ANYONE! SO, LET'S ARRIVE TO SOLOUTIONS VIA IDENTIFYING REALITIES VS LYNCH MOBS AND LABELING. THE 'PROTESTORS' AT THE PARENTS HOME ARE....WRONG, DANGEROUS, IGNORANT via jumping to these VERY CONCLUSIONS AND NEED TO BE STOPPED!

@Gabriella Roque I noticed her flinch too. That said, I’ve watched several body language experts and psychologists dissect the body cam video of Gabby and Brian, none so far noticed or commented on her slight pullback from the officer as you mention. This is a great observation which tells many tales (how he treated her).
Likely, Brian changed his behavior towards her over time, meaning he gradually morphed into what pushed him over the edge and capable of murder. He’s a true manipulator with low self esteem. Gabby on the other hand wants to see the good in all, she’s a true peace-love-hippie. Peace-love hippies will fight back though and that’s what’s evident by the marks she left on him.
Yes, she should have called it quits with him but sadly that’s not always reality.
There’s a story about him removing her license so she couldn’t go line dancing with a friend, again this displays the subtitles of his growing manipulative behaviors. Couple the long time spent together on this road trip and a recipe for disaster looms overhead. In the truest sense of the word this scenario plays out as a could have, should have but with a very sad ending.

Gabby was terribly afraid of being abandoned out there. Brian drove the van most of the time, even though it was her's. She was afraid to drive it long distances. He would often take the keys and her phone. If that doesn't send you into a panic out in the middle of no where, I don't know what would. I don't think she was all that confident in her abilities and Brian would solidify that telling her her ideas were stupid, and did not support her in her dream. He was destroying her self worth bit by bit, which is what a narcissist does to their victim. Brian wanted a puppet of a woman to control.
When the cops told her to separate from Brian over night, he in a hotel room and she alone in her van, in an unknown place all night. That was stupid of the police. Poor Gabby was terrified of having to be in the van in the middle of no where by herself.
If she had had more confidence in her self, she should have taken that opportunity to drive home that night to New York where her family lives, leaving Brian behind. She was too close to the situation and couldn't see the bigger picture of how dangerous her situation was becoming. Brian deserved to get ditched!
Brian didn't have any friends... I wonder why. Gabby was the only person who could tolerate him and he thanked her by killing her.
I truly hope her spirit is free and not earth bound wandering the wilderness wondering where she is and what the hell happened.

Not commenting on his guilt because I don't know but if the whole country thought I murdered my fiance and I was innocent I'd probably consider running, especially if there's already enough circumstantial evidence to make me look guilty.
We all know a lot of innocent people have been convicted of crimes that didn't commit because of circumstantial evidence. That's why I think everyone saying he definitely killed her is wrong, not only because they might be wrong but it also might be the reason he fled, and possibly didn't cooperate initially. I assume being accused of murder is stressful and terrifying; your main goal is stay out of prison and you might make some stupid and possibly suspicious decisions.
Just a thought, as I said most people just assume he's guilty without considering other possibilities, whether they're less likely or not they're still worth considering. For all we know he's also a victim, a grieving husband accused of murder by the public because he made a dumb mistake, possibly out of shock or fear after his fiance disappeared or possibly witnessing her death.
I'll probably get a lot of hate for saying he might be innocent but if you're going to play internet detective then at least try act like a real detective and consider all possibilities, don't get locked on one theory and avoid tunnel vision because that's how innocent people get screwed while the guilty goes free.
Sure you don't have the responsibilities or power of real law enforcement but playing detective, spreading your opinions and accusing people of murder without any real evidence can have tremendous effect on people's lives. Not only that but it can interfere with the investigation; say he is innocent and based on the news coverage, people's opinions on social media, etc someone who might have information now doubts how useful/accurate said info is. For example, they saw Gabby with someone besides Brian at some point but based on social media detectives they're convinced Brian killed her so they either doubt themselves or even worse, don't want to provide that information because they don't want to benefit his defence by providing another possible suspect.

@@skinsfanh88I have not recalled her saying that in the video. However, even if she did, it shows consciousness and responsibility for her own actions. She took the blame for what she did, she acknowledged it, and she showed remorse for it.
According to other witnesses, and a 911 call, Brian was physically abusive to her.
It could be possible that she was exhausted by the many dramas that occurred, and she was tired, and lost control of her actions. In the video, she seemed frantic and scared. This is speculation. The outcome of all of this is death, hence, analysis of behaviours, data on domestic violence, body language, etc… can all attempt to explain what she might have gone through and why she re-acted the way that she did.
Hence, all of this can attest for the probability that her death was as a result of domestic violence, and Brian as the culprit. This is just speculation…

I’ve been In a similar situation to her where I was truly indoctrinated and would’ve said the craziest things to take blame even when it would’ve been physically impossible for me to sustain certain injuries if they were self inflicted. This whole scene is extremely triggering because almost the same thing happened when my mom tried to run in front of a truck after hours and hours of my parents fighting behind closed doors and in front of us in the car. A plainclothes police officer was behind us on the highway off ramp, and talked to my dad (not that much to my mom who was in shock thinking her kids would be taken away if she told the truth about her actions). They just let us all drive off, knowing it was like 400miles back to our house with that much highway and that much time until anyone might even suspect something was wrong again.
I get that legally cops only have so much they can do in particular situations, but it’s just so sad how much pain and harm could be prevented if they had the ability to act sooner rather than act after the fact.

It was truly disgusting how so many didn't care that she's missing or that she was found dead or that Brian fled or that his parents tried to cover for him, instead during an active missing persons case and then an active homicide investigation people for some reason felt the need to say "Well if she was black..." or variations of that.
That part always stuck out to me. Not just the argument but the amount of people saying it. "If she was black then no one would care", "The only reason it became a national news story is because she's a white woman". Of course they're oblivious to the fact that they were disproving their argument by doing exactly what they tried to criticize.

Wow, I’ve only seen clips of this interaction so far, and had never seen the part where she indicates where she had been hit by him! I didn’t fault the police officers before, but now I do. To treat her like the aggressor, when they had a 9-1-1 call saying he’d been hitting HER, and he has marks on his hand? If they’d arrested him, maybe she’d still be alive. Instead, they were on his side, and you can see that it emboldened him. He was laughing with the cops, knowing they thought she was the abuser. Unreal.

Same feathers gather together (Brian and the cop that determinated Gabby as the aggressor where it was all over written in her behavior that she was the victim no the aggressor )

The first time I watched the body cam, I had no idea the police were responding to a call that a witness saw Brian slapping Gabby. So I thought at first they made the right call. Finding out about the witness was infuriating! The police dropped the ball and completely ignored the witness account. They should be aware of abuser/abused dynamics.

Actually they were responding to a call of Gabby assaulting Brian. If you watch the whole video the police officer calls the witness who confirms Gabby was punching Brian. A second witness called who didn't see the whole incident take place and was driving only saw Brian defending himself and didn't see Gabby punching Brian because he was driving

@Chris Yanover - Even still, who knows what led up to her hitting him? He may have struck her first & she fought back. No one knows until you separate the pair & really invest in asking the right questions.
The fact that he murdered her, steals all the air out of the room.

On September 19, Petito's remains were found in Wyoming's Bridger-Teton National Forest. An autopsy found that she was killed by manual strangulation. After a month of speculation around Laundrie's whereabouts, and an extended search of the area around his home, his skeletal remains were discovered in Florida's Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park on October 20. It was confirmed by an autopsy on November 23 that Laundrie had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, and the FBI later announced that he had admitted to killing Petito in his notebook, which was found near his remains.

You're absolutely incorrect if you believe domestic violence never happens against men.
I am a man. I was in a violent relationship. Not only did she scratch, punch me, threw things at me, try to run me over with her car, at one point she threatened me with a knife. I had to literally hold the knife with my bare hands to prevent her from stabbing me. As I did, she pulled it back nearly severing my thumb off. As I laid there bleeding, applying pressure on one hand with the other, unable to call 911, she freaks out and calls the police and tell them "my husband is bleeding... I had a knife, we were arguing." You can immediately hear the 911 operator assume she was being beaten up even after hearing her say this.
This complete bias needs to stop. Women are aggressive towards men. This happens. This happens a lot. Assuming the guy is the automatically the perpetrator of domestic violence is wrong.

I look at my wife and my daughter and can’t believe that things like that happen. No matter what would happen I could never even imagine doing somthing like that. Not only do I love them with all my heart and respect them as woman. Just the physical difference between me and a woman is just so unfair it’s disgusting to picture a man beating up a woman. Please every guy out there respect all woman and if they’re doing something that makes you feel like your going to put your hands on them separate yourself from them and call the cops if needed.

I remember an incident in Corona California back in 1993. I lived in an apartment. One Sunday afternoon I heard a woman screaming bloody-murder because her BF was beating the shit out of her. I called the cops. They didn't respond. A few hours later I was walking across the parking lot and a Corona PD cruiser was driving through. I stopped the cop and asked him about that incident and he said they were aware of it. He said they won't do anything about it because the woman sides with the BF everytime they get called out. He said, "... we're just waiting for him to kill her, then we'll take care of it". I figured, OK! I never tried to help her again.

Thank you, Bruce, for not dancing around the issue and trying to placate people by saying, "BUT WOMEN DO IT TOO!". We know. But when you have a raging worldwide epidemic, from the beginning of human history, of men sending women to the hospital or to the grave, we should probably deal with that before we tackle the common cold. "With great power comes great responsibility", and no one should leverage their power to prey on the weak. It's just as simple as that.
