The note about the gas not controlling the speed was REALLY helpful. As I'm learning I have been really reluctant to up the gas when doing manoeuvres in case I shoot forwards. This is soo good to know!

Omg nobody told me about these details of gas + clutch pedals, so I was always confused when my instructor told me to add gas every time when I needed to move just a little bit because I thought I'd go too fast by adding gas! It's so important to know details like that to understand how to really control the car. Richard, you are the best!!!

You're absolutely amazing !!! I'm from India, and learning clutch control is so much essential here because of extreme traffic density. I watched your video at least 4-5 times and practiced clutch control which had immensely helped me gaining accuracy and command over it. Just like you said, lifting the clutch the same height as the thickness of a schilling gets the job done. I felt so related as I also used to make the same mistake of using it in reverse direction. Thanks a lot again for making this video.

Thank you very much for this. Very helpful!
I did all the common mistakes you've mentioned during my last lesson and want to improve.
    1. Prevent the clutch moving to the middle arch of foot and keep it steady by positioning the left heel on the floor once at bite point.
    2. Moving the clutch: Up=faster, Down=slower
    3. You can control the speed with clutch instead of gas.
    Im taking down notes! 📝

Just had the most embarrassing driving lesson of my journey. I was practising manouevers and my car kept accelerating even though my foot was nice and steady on the clutch. This video is a lifesaver! I will try to implement the advice.
My driving instructor did not tell me what to do to control the car better. All she said was “you are losing control a lot today” and i kept asking is it because I am doing xyz? And she never told me what exactly is the problem.
First 1 minute of this video is exactly what was happening during my lesson.
I am glad to know I am not alone!

Conquer Driving is the best channel for beginners to understand how to handle the car. Well, cars are categorized as with manual or automatic transmission, but as I watch these series I came to conclusion that cars are with the clutch, and without a clutch, because this part of the car really plays the main role I guess. Thanks a lot for awesome videos Conquer Driving. This channel is the best!

New driver here, about 2 months in, learned Manual as a first time driver and I just want to say, learning Clutch control (Pretty much everything he mentioned here) is when I fully acknowledged the fact that I truly know how to drive manual. My car has an ECU, but I barely rely on it. Knowing how to do Clutch control to slow down and speed up is useful for almost anything. In any clutch scenario (Pun intended) like tight turns or going uphill and suddenly encountering something on your way up, using the clutch to control your speed is super helpful. Not to mention that in bumper-to-bumper traffic or stop lights this helps you get faster starts than doing Clutch-bite-point first, relying on the ECU to accelerate then adding gas later. This is 100% an essential skill for any manual driver, new or old, ECU or no ECU.

I have been feeling anxious about driving my car and no one understands, everyone keeps telling me to just drive my car and i couldn't explain why i feel anxious. I recommend refresher lessons. If you pass the test and don't use the skill it will fade quickly. It's OK to have a break from driving when you have already been driving for a number of years because the skill will stick. But if you just learnt it and never used it you will forget it.

I love this guy I just got a 5 speed manual 2014 Scooby WRX a few months ago and I already intuitively learned a lot of these things just from practice but he has a lot of little tips that I have absorbed into my memory banks. Super helpful dude. And my other car is an automatic with paddle shifters, so I am able to take my time to learn and also practicing when to shift with my paddle shifters so I don't waste too much gas in the high RPMs in the WRX, which is a bit of a gas guzzler especially with the mods on there.

I really wanted to hear what you will tell us about keeping slow and I’m not disappointed. My instructor told me a bit different approach - I learn in a car which doesn’t required extra gas at the start, so I’ve been told to keep one foot and the clutch and second one on the brake. Fully lock the wheel, find the bite point and slowly release the brake, holding the clutch steady and moving the wheel - basic rule is “fast hands, slow feet”. Well, it works as recently I am getting better with angle start, but... I keep in my mind that very important point you remind us all the time - to use some gas before finding the bite point. However it is easy to forgot about it, especially that our car even release the hand brake for me 😳 I’ve got a feeling that after passing my test and having my own car I’ll have to learn some things all over again as I’ll have different habits... unless I’ll buy similar car 😂 but I really don’t want to be a lazy driver from the other side 😉

That's true, you may need to learn some different techniques when you drive a different car. This is why I like to make sure my customers can drive any car. My car will also easily let you lift the clutch without gas. I get my customers to practise both methods.

    Great video as usual.
Can you make a short video about buying a first car?
Mainly the things like buying insurance, taxing it, etc. What you need to do before you can (legally) drive it away, and how to do it.
Like... do you buy the car, then insure it via phone? Insure it before you buy it? What paperwork is involved? Etc.
Plenty of videos from other channels show what to look for in a first car, but not really much about the the "boring" paperwork.

Thank you for your video. I just got my driving license (in France) on a brand new diesel car and was heartbroken when driving my own petrol 2011 car for the first time, realizing I needed to learn the pedals all over again :( it took me ages to learn to use the clutch in the first place and now it turns out I've learnt it wrong for the car I have

Very helpful vid. Exactly what I was looking for. Just started learning and having trouble at junctions as cars are parked so close that I've no view of any oncoming traffic. I need to know how to "creep" forward a little before driving off. Thanks. Ray.

Really good video Richard. This is something I have noticed since passing my test and trying a different car. In my examiner's car, I could do manouvres and go very slowly purely just by using the clutch and no gas from my input. I assumed this was in all cars but quickly found out this is not the case! 😂 I always use gas then clutch in every other aspect, I just thought when going very slowly you could just use the clutch but I now know this isn't a universal thing. Thank you

Really superb video bro@Conquer Driving bravo bro👏👏🔥🔥...btw when moving off manual car in order to listen the engine go up pitch and revs start to increase do we need to hold the gas still or keep pressing the gas pedal?

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  5 років тому +1

Thank you. Keep the gas steady, if you keep increasing the gas your clutch will have more and more work to do and you would maybe overheat it. Maybe increase it a tiny amount if you feel you're not getting anywhere.

Great video! It was really informative. I have a question - when you are using clutch control to do manoeuvres like forward bay parking, do you keep your foot on the gas pedal as well or is it the clutch and the brake you use for control? I hope that made sense.
