This was such a pleasure to watch. Being a female that really enjoys wearing and learning about bespoke suits, I was so happy to hear and see another woman’s perspective. Thank you. I hope to do more videos as well about this topic
This is still one of my favorite videos from Sartorial Talks. Sonya does such a great job of explaining what a gentleman is and how he dresses. Well done. Please make more videos on this subject.
Hi,Sonya I can see in your eyes or persona how much this subject means to you thank you so much for sharing your perspective on the subject.I wish you much happiness in the profession outside the profession .Thanks Charles E.Huggins Jr.
What makes Sonya attractive? She is very well mannered, has a soothing voice and great vocabular and she's radiating mature femininity without the flashing neon light on top of her head screaming for attention. All in all, she's a lady!
Wonderful lady! Such a pleasure to hear her speak as everything she says is beautifully and eloquently put. Not to mention the fact her demeanour is, just like Hugo's, completely mesmerising. Thank you!
Honestly a woman wearing a suit is not my cup of tea and a bespoke dress can also be a sartorial masterpiece. But this is just my personal opinion following my own taste. But there is something much more important to this video and this channel: did anybody notice that there are no hate comments in the comments section ? That is so very special on an internet platform. Which leads to only 1 conclusion: if the most important attribute of a gentleman (and a lady) is to make everybody in his enviroment feel comfortable and at ease - and I truly believe this is the No. 1 character - than Ms Sonya and Mr Hugo are simply epitomzing this in the most charming way.
Hardy: If you look at her suit, shirt specifically, the cut is very feminine. the fluffed tie. A take from the early woman's suffrage movement. So it's all about how you look at it.
This channel is simply a jem in deep sea. I am really glad to come across this channel. plz continue creating such great content. I am 25 and I simply love this, all these conversations helps me build and refine my taste in clothing and suits. Thank You
Sonya's American English is absolutely lovely! As an Englishman its always a pleasure to listen to Americans speak. Sonya's floral delivery is pure Bach !
That's funny. I'm an American woman who always has had a weakness for listening to English guys speaking! It would be nice if a lot of English guys felt like you do. 😊 I had an Irish guy tell me once that Irish guys just loved American women.
I have only recently discovered this channel. Everything about these videos oozes sophistication and dedication to the subject. Sonya is a delight to listen to and her love of style shows through. She is obviously a very classy lady with a voice of pure silk. Additive videos. Well done.
I'm impressed with the generosity of talking about what those on a limited budget can do. This is really giving and supporting those still climbing their mountain of choice.
Solid advice and fantastic public speaking and presentation from a radiant and well informed woman. I am willing to bet she hails somewhere from the southern US. As many great personalities do.
Excellently told, Sonya! I found myself identifying my style within the big picture you so eloquently articulated. Good luck with this wonderful series, to you and Hugo.
Thank you so much for this video. My wife, who is of English heritage, has challenged me to refine my style. I found Sonya's perspective insightful and thought provoking. Tastefully done!
Thank you for leaving a comment. It helps to move forward when receiving such encouragement--and I wish you well as you begin the path to refine your own style! ~Sonya
It would be so cool if this channel would dedicate an episode on Spanish suiting style and men's clothes in general. The Spanish style, somewhere between British and American style is just as awesome but sadly not well known. remember that many famous designers (Balenciaga, Francisco Rabaneda aka "Paco Rabanne", Fortuny and many others)were "sastres" before becoming famous in France or Italy. these are the guys that invented the term "haute couture " (from the Spanish term "alta costura"...meaning the highest art form of sewing). I love your channel and i just subbed! What an awesome job you do!
Hey Gil and thanks for the comment. It's widely believed that London starting the entire sartorial movement for the simplified suit (with Beau Brummell), after which, other countries studied English crafting and eventually put their own spin on style elements of the suit. You're right though--it's high time we included information on how the Spanish interpret the suit. ~Sonya
Hi Gil, one of the most stylish men I ever met was out walking with his wife and young family in Playa D'Aro. He wore perfectly matching, superbly cut linen trousers, a yellow shirt and matching suede shoes. Casual but immaculate.
Haute couture is French for haute couture. It's French people that invented and spread the concept. That's why the name is in French and used in its French form worldwide. I'll be interested in Spanish sartorial style.
I was touched this morning by your insights and gently passionate delivery. Finishing the last few minutes, this evening is a perfect capper to my day. Particularly, the overview of the geographical personalities of suits was the most helpful I've seen. Thanks ever so much, Sonya and Hugo.
Loved listening to you, hope you do more on this channel. One suggestion is it would be nice if you did a cutaway to show some examples of the different region's suit types as you described them.
Simply wonderful. You are so right about getting lost in yourself, there is a thin line between taking pride in ones appearance and coming off as overly confident. If you just try to be yourself, that’s always a good balance in my view. A true gentlemen doesn’t need to work in overdrive all the time. It should be effortlessly natural.
Yes Josh, this effortless elegance is also called nonchalance. Some people have it naturally (Gary Cooper being the epitome of nonchalance) and some people have to work hard to acquire it (Fred Astaire was anything but nonchalant, but ended being extremely elegant). Cheers, Hugo & Sonya
I'm late to the party watching this Sartorial Talk but I believe it's timeless. Very interesting perspective Sonya. Good ideas on how to define one's own style.
Dear G.W., Thank you for taking the time to tell us that the info and quality shines through. Feedback like yours really helps us to push forward. ~Sonya
I would say the essence of being a gentleman is being lost, i.e., honoring your word, have integrity, be compassionate, etc. or in short, do the right thing.
As your inner beauty shines to form the beautiful person you are, my lady, I find the beauty from within that gets reflected on the facade of the person is what makes them appear in what we call "gentlemen and ladies". All what you truly mentioned I can summon up in "Honor", its the essential and most profound attribute that all the amazing attributes that forms what we describe as a "gentleman" are derived from. People have forgotten how to look honorable and dignified, the focus recently has been on how to look "hot and sexy", which in the vast majority comes across as vulgar. In my opinion: Honor is the source what drives people to "do the right thing", being proud yet humble, being courageous but not insane, being confidant but not vain. Behaving and looking honorable are things that the vast majority of people have forgotten this concept and way of life. All the beautiful facade we may see in a person, very rapidly fades away in our eyes the minute we discover that under all this beautiful exterior exists an ugly person. There is a term which is being used recently among youngsters to describe that, which I will refrain from using, however, the most amazing attire would be merely a decoration, if there is nothing under it to substantiation it. There is an old saying that goes like: "People receive you based on what you wear, and say goodbye to you based on your mind and heart". It is of paramount importance that our inner beauty is a reflected and complemented by what we wear, which also reflects whom we are. In the center of all of this, I remain myself mindful to the fact that there is also a financial element attached to getting the right attire that people with beautiful minds and hearts may not always be able to acquire, or those who are very focused in life on the things that they do and produce but not what they were because their minds are entirely focused on their mission. Hence, I always keep an open mind when meeting new people since it's the mind and the heart that are the main foundations for me to call someone a gentleman/ lady or a cad.
I absolutely love and respect this lady. Her voice and demeanor not to mention her absolute knowledge of men’s fashion commands respect and admiration. And she looks absolutely devine in her suits.
You are a beautiful and elegant lady Sonya, Hugo is a lucky man. I agree completely with what you said. Thank you for your contribution on this. I think the "Gentleman" needs to make a comeback in this day and age.
Omg. I just randomly clicked on this video and FINALLY saw a woman that dresses like this. So classy, elegant in a suit--not a dress. And thank you for the Carminas recommendation. Holy shit--you just changed my life.
Had to watch this after the 'Oxford' video, although interesting, had Sonya on standby most of the time. I watch these Sartorial Talks even though I'm a t-shirt & jeans guy. Sonya is a pleasure to watch and listen to.
Dearest Sonya, How did you begin and continue in your knowledge in the art of Gentleman's Sartorial Elegance? You have opened my eyes. Kindest Regards.
I began in the surgical world of all places, learning about textile production. And after being trained in writing, I began producing pieces on male elegance. Thanks for asking and for your kindness. ~Sonya
Sonya, not sure if you practiced the tone, speed and pitch of your voice but even if you did you come across exceptionally well and undoubtedly are an influencer of mens style. Kudos!
Hello RSS, This was my first solo completely impromptu talk with no notes. I had no clue how it would go--so I truly appreciate your assessment. I had 10 minutes notice before the shoe talk & I was much more (obviously) nervous! Thanks from the heart, Sonya
A very eye-opening video. I've always believed that you should wear what is you, as a form of open dialogue. But not being afraid to discover yourself in the form of experimenting with clothing can be fun and rewarding, instead of just stepping out of your comfort zone. Nicholson mentions the "pantsuit" from a feminine point of view. Notice that whilst she wears a pale green necktie, the collar is not actually "buttoned-up", so that a very subtle adjustment can be made - without making it seem so obvious. Very courageous, but also very classy.
If you were my engineering teacher I would never bunk my class at all. Your way of explaining things is on a another level. Much respect from my side! From - MUMBAI, INDIA
As a round guy (300ish lbs 5ft 7) I find when wearing suits and more formal clothing I look and feel better in myself. Watching this video, and others in the series have been vital in moving from living in jeans and chinos with shirts to a more formal wardrobe. Thank you. One thing I would ask is have you considered a guide or video for gentlemen of my build?
Hello Adam. I enjoyed reading your response and am inspired by your resolve. I wrote an article on Parisian Gentleman entitled "12 Ways a Heavier Man can Look Thinner". Perhaps we will do a talk on the subject. Thank you for the suggestion and keep moving forward. ~Sonya
Sonya epitomizes a more compelling argument in favor of bespoke suiting. Sonya is a woman of style and beauty, but I couldn’t help but notice how nicely her vest conformed to her bodice without looking stretched or draped. This is the compelling argument. No matter your shape, a quality tailor will be able to showcase the most attractive you and simultaneously mask any flaws; a “trompe l’oeil” effect. If you also appreciate the cut and fit of Sonya’s vest, you know of what I speak. Bravo!
You point is well taken about bespoke (thank you for that). Sometimes I hit the bespoke mark and other times I miss it, but absolutely savor the journey, and perhaps you can relate. I appreciate your comment very much! ~Sonya
I love these videos! Fashion is not something that I can easily find a mentor in, but these videos are fantastic! Much appreciation and respect! I want to dress well for the ladies and these videos are a HUGE help! :D
There are common themes in this community, and I understand the familiarity you mention in regard to the sartorial journey. I'm glad you've joined us here. ~Sonya
Is there a possibility of an episode being dedicated to women? Perhaps even a book? Im having a difficult time finding shoes and clothing of a higher standard for the wife. Your reference of Walker Slater has been a great help. Best regards, David van Veen.
I got rid of my Hickey Freeman suits for just a couple of basic Isaia suits (navy and gray). I don’t have to wear suits anymore but these are last ones I will need and just go with fun patterned Isaia dress shirts to go with them.
Isaia is one of our all time favorite ready to wear brands---adore the vegetable dyed fabrics and tight collar fit (cut at a bias to prevent most collar gaps). Cheers! ~Sonya
Great comments. Challenge is exchanging and opening up for people like me who are introverts. I once had a person opened up to me that people thought I was snobbish because I kept to myself at social gatherings. Hurt badly because I am not a person who socializes easily with people I don’t know- quite unlike my wife. However I do believe in being in being properly dressed. As an American we have become very badly dressed. Recently I attended a funeral for friends mother. People showed up in jeans and collarless shirts. I was appalled- other than my friend and I not one suit. OBTW part of my background is Catholic school in the 60s. Coat and ties every day.
sonya is simply delightful. inspiring, enchanting, sophisticatedly warm and sparking, appeasing. yet sassy and modern with her hair and suit. plus, her skin inspired me to change my routine! i'd learn more in two cups of tea with her than in a finishing school.
Sonya is so elegant. Hugo is a lucky man, and together they are a wonderful couple :)
Dear PZA, Thanks for this heartwarming note. ~Sonya
This was such a pleasure to watch. Being a female that really enjoys wearing and learning about bespoke suits, I was so happy to hear and see another woman’s perspective. Thank you. I hope to do more videos as well about this topic
Hi Kyra, I appreciate your perspective as a woman and am so glad you watched and commented. ~Sonya
This is still one of my favorite videos from Sartorial Talks. Sonya does such a great job of explaining what a gentleman is and how he dresses. Well done. Please make more videos on this subject.
I am delighted to read your impressions. Thank you so much. Sonya
Thank you for saying what you did about being 30, trying to craft a style, all while supporting a family. It was something I needed to hear.
Thanks for taking the time to let me know this was meaningful for you. ~Sonya
Hi,Sonya I can see in your eyes or persona how much this subject means to you thank you so much for sharing your perspective on the subject.I wish you much happiness in the profession outside the profession .Thanks Charles E.Huggins Jr.
Hello Charles, Thank you for tapping into the intention of the talk--which is in itself a quality of a gentleman. Happy New Year, ~Sonya
What makes Sonya attractive? She is very well mannered, has a soothing voice and great vocabular and she's radiating mature femininity without the flashing neon light on top of her head screaming for attention. All in all, she's a lady!
You know how to infuse wonderful energy around you, as is the case with me and I'm grateful for what you wrote. Thank you, Sonya
You are most welcome!

It's said Brava, she's a girl not a man
Wonderful lady! Such a pleasure to hear her speak as everything she says is beautifully and eloquently put. Not to mention the fact her demeanour is, just like Hugo's, completely mesmerising. Thank you!
What a pleasure to ear a woman speak about suits, that show a different vision and perception of it.
I'm really happy to know your thoughts, Jo Chris. Thanks for commenting. ~Sonya

You make a great point.
Aha! So true. I was admiring their word choice and how they advanced their view in a respectful manner.
Wonderfully said. I agree with you 100%. God bless the kind and courteous.
This channel is simply a jem in deep sea. I am really glad to come across this channel. plz continue creating such great content. I am 25 and I simply love this, all these conversations helps me build and refine my taste in clothing and suits.

I'm definitely odd, so thank you, I think. ~Sonya
Ah, thanks! ~Sonya

You mean she are honest, have knowledge and are real. Everything TV is not.
She's elegant.
I appreciate this perspective, compared to television. ~Sonya
Excellently told, Sonya! I found myself identifying my style within the big picture you so eloquently articulated. Good luck with this wonderful series, to you and Hugo.

It's refreshing to hear a lady speak without exuding anger, neediness, or shrillness.
That was excellent. I was disappointed to see you don't have any content on your channel! Would love to see more videos w/ you talking about style.
Words like these help so much. Much appreciation. ~Sonya
I love these videos! Fashion is not something that I can easily find a mentor in, but these videos are fantastic! Much appreciation and respect! I want to dress well for the ladies and these videos are a HUGE help! :D

Many thanks! ~Sonya
Bravo. Sonya and Hugo are true professionals, artists, and good people (as we say in the south).
Glad to have you here, Alan, and many thanks. ~Sonya
Is there a possibility of an episode being dedicated to women? Perhaps even a book? Im having a difficult time finding shoes and clothing of a higher standard for the wife. Your reference of Walker Slater has been a great help.
Best regards,
David van Veen.
I love to hear this woman talking with so much simplicity for men's clothing. Congratulations
I appreciate your encouraging words. ~Sonya
Cheers! ~Sonya
So Classy Woman. Actually i´m learning english and this is a very good form to learn many interesting things at a time.
This is wonderful to know. Thank you for commenting.
I promise you that when word gets out you guys will have 1million plus subscribers!Bravo
Such a wonderful sentiment. Thank you so much. ~Sonya
Thank you so much Guy. Hugo
Dear Sonya, may I ask you where I can get a tie tack like yours?
This one is from Tokyo, sorry I don't know where to find it. Cheers, ~S

Very classy...thank you.
sonya is simply delightful. inspiring, enchanting, sophisticatedly warm and sparking, appeasing. yet sassy and modern with her hair and suit. plus, her skin inspired me to change my routine! i'd learn more in two cups of tea with her than in a finishing school.
Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year to everyone who provides and watches this cannel. M.
I wish captivating talking as all these people I have seen from this channel would come with clothes. But that is priceless, no one can buy. 😌
*Excellent.*
