Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it! Be sure to check out my video where I retrofitted this cart to address the issue of the bunks turning when they’re not supposed to. Stay safe!
I have watched like 10 videos on pvc carts and I like yours best. Big eheels and still stowable, smooth axle instead of threaded rod, movable handle, easily removable wheels, easily replaceable foam. Great design my friend! I will be copying with pride.
Hi, Josh! Thanks for watching and for the kind words. I’ve found this design to be stout and adaptable…probably be building another soon to fit my Hammerhead Kayaks Bull Shark. Stay safe!
I have watched about a dozen of these cart build videos. You are the first to address a good way to secure the tie downs. My cart works great, but the ratchet straps are awkward for my wife and kids to use. Elastic tie downs are the perfect solution. Thanks!
Hi, and thanks for watching, I'm glad you liked it! I originally had no provision for tie downs on the cart, relying on the kayak's weight to hold it in place. My first trip down a bumpy ramp with it made my mind up that I needed something to keep from bouncing the boat off the cart, and I felt that ratchet straps would be too likely to damage the PVC by over-tightening them, so bungees it was! Stay safe!
Great concept. I've been debating buying or building a cart for my Lifetime Yukon. This looks as good as anything I might buy. Thanks for the in depth look.
Hi, and thanks for watching! We’ve used my cart on my wife’s Yukon. It works fine, but obviously the dimensions could be tweaked a little for a custom fit. I have a video where we looked at my cart under a Yukon, a Perception Striker, and an Ascend FS120. Stay Safe!
Loved it. The only thing I did differently was using a small metal screw into the pieces that you glued. That way I could take everything apart without losing function of a single piece if I wanted to tweak the design later. Love the way you explain everything in detail. Thank you.
Hi, and thanks for watching! It should look great in orange! Be sure to catch my other video about retrofitting it to keep the bunks from turning while you’re using it. Stay safe!
New subscriber 🙂 Best cart diy I’ve seen. Great instructions also. I use a modified little trailer that came with my sons electric tractor from many years ago, but need to upgrade soon..This is it! Enjoyed some of your other videos also..the UA-cam fame Cafe prank was great! 😂 Looking forward to going over more of your past and seeing future videos. Have a great one and best wishes from central Texas. Many thanks for the cart ideas! 👍👍👌✌️
Hi, Charlie...thanks for watching and welcome aboard! I'm trying to figure out an upgrade to the cart to keep the bunks in line on longer treks. We went to a place yesterday where the kayak launch was out on the end of a 150 yard long "bumpy" pier, and by the time I got out there, the bunks were still in line with the kayak, but the wheels were a couple degrees off center, which made the kayak track to the right a little. When I get an easy fix figured out, I'll make another video on it and get it out here for everyone. Glad you enjoyed and will get some use out the videos!
Hi, Charlie! Here's the fix to the alignment issue I had with the cart...quick 5 minute video. Thanks, and stay safe! ua-cam.com/video/JeVBbGmRZ8k/v-deo.html
Hi, Bill, and thanks for watching! I hope to be passing through your area towards the end of this year, on the way to the Everglades to chase some invasive species...well, if I can get a good enough price for one of my kidneys to cover the gas! Stay safe!
Great tutorial. The price of everything is so jacked up right now. I wonder if making a u-style cart would be more cost effective. It wouldn't be as slick as your with the handle for placement though. 👍
The way everything costs now, it’d probably be cost effective to just buy Boondockers landing gear! A U-style would likely be cheaper, but you might lose the ability to break it down and stow it. Thanks for watching…Stay Safe!
Thanks for watching! That’s a good question…I’m at work for a couple more weeks, but when I get home I’ll try it and let you know what I find. Offhand, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work, though I’d imagine the measurements would need a little tweaking for a custom fit.
@@DEADorALIVEkayaking thanks man. Looks like it’ll work fine and it’s only $35-$40 hey, why not! I measured 15in from basically scupper to scupper so I’m thinking the cart’s top section (with the tees) should be 15 1/2in apart and it’ll hold that kayak well!! Thanks again man, I’ll be waiting for your feedback and I’ll also get back to you with mine 😉 Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🍁🍽
Okay...I'm home and I checked! The short answer is yes, it'll fit, but you would have to widen it a few inches to accommodate the Yukon's wider keel. Here's a short video showing what I found... ua-cam.com/video/IctyxHwOH68/v-deo.html
What's the axle bore diameter for the wheels you got from Harbor Freight? All I can find are 5/8" axle bore, but I'm having a very hard time finding 5/8" steel tubing to use for the axle. Are your wheels actually 5/8" and the 1/2" tube fits well enough?
Hi, and thanks for watching! Pretty sure mine have a 5/8" axle bore, as well, and I know I used 1/2" tubing. Loaded, the cart has enough weight that the axle sits on the wheel bearing firmly enough that the bearing does the turning, or at least most of the turning.
Hi, and thanks for watching! Kind of defeats the purpose of the whole “DIY” concept, doesn’t it? For the cost of materials, my labor, and packaging and shipping, you’d come out about even buying a C-Tug or other commercially available cart.
This is where the squirrel in the back of my brain was running to! Very nice! I especially like the addition of the eyelets for the strap hooks!
