Gettin My Groove Back!
Way too long since I've even been fishing, much less been able to make a video! The creeks and rivers are all low, but the tug is the drug and I needed a fix!...so why not make a quick multi-species trip right here close to the house?! I PROMISE there are some kayaking videos coming soon, especially with the Whale Shark! Stay Safe!

Comparing the Whale Shark, Cuda 14, and Frontier 12 Kayaks! Part 2...On the Water

Fossil Hunting With The Twins At Point A Dam
Переглядів 1143 місяці тому
Just below Point A dam on the Conecuh River has long been known for producing a plethora of fossils from the Eocene and Cretaceous Periods (40-69 million years ago!), most notably...Shark teeth. Today I took my 8 year old twin Grandsons to the dam to see what they could find, and even with a high water level from recent rains, the river didn't disappoint! We even ran into 2 helicopter pilots fr...

20 Relaxing Miles on the Pea River, 15 Oct 2023

On a chilly, dreary, and blustery morning in October of '23, I set out on a stretch of the Pea River I'd never kayaked before. I fished a little, caught none, and was mostly sight-seeing, anyway. I thought I'd lost all the footage of the 7 hour trip, and wasn't terribly upset about it because the wind noise in the audio was terrible and I didn't catch anything. Many years ago, my oldest son began making noise about keeping pigeons, at least to the extent that he was researching different breeds to see what kind he’d have. The smell of gasoline and perfume led him to a different hobby, though, and keeping pigeons never materialized. Thanks for watching, and Stay Safe!

    • @DEADorALIVEkayaking
      @DEADorALIVEkayaking Місяць тому

      Definitely! One caveat, though…there’s only one boat ramp, and depending on where you want to fish it could be a long paddle. I’ve only been there with a pedal drive, so that shortened the transit time some and reduced the effort expended by a good bit. I meant to get back out on Frank Jackson last week, but life was conspiring against me…soon, though! Thanks for stopping by, and Stay Safe!

      Hi! Thanks for stopping by and I’m glad you enjoyed it! I’m betting you’ll love the Whale Shark when you get it…I sure enjoy mine! If reverse isn’t a concern, the fin drive produces more torque and speed than the propeller drive for about the same amount of effort on your part. If you’re looking at buying the trolling motor in the future, you’d need the propeller drive’s cartridge for that, though. Whichever you decide on, stop back by and let me know how you like it…Stay Safe!

    Some nice teeth you found here! I’ll try to give some insight as to what you found and how old: That site is an Eocene site, so about 42 million years old. This was well after the dinosaurs went extinct. You mentioned the shark teeth may be from a goblin shark, I assume you are talking about Scapanorhynchus texanus, the goblin shark that’s commonly found in Cretaceous deposits in Alabama. It went extinct about 30 million years before these fossils here were ever laid down. The teeth you found are from Sand tiger sharks, I believe the two you showed at the beginning are Striatolamia macrota teeth. The flat, broad teeth are stingray teeth. It looks like Austin also found an extinct Tiger shark relative as well (the small, wide, serrated tooth he was holding at the end). Very cool finds, guys! The pointed, white objects are small corals. I’ve found plenty of them at that site. If you ever need help identifying any teeth you find, come swing by my channel and drop a comment, I’ll try my best to help out!

    See...you lost me at the start boss. You said you know the owner, which I dont doubt. But you also said you were there for the design phase and wanted it before it existed. That Sir is a pretty bold lie. This Kayak is a dropshipped Vicking Hamon Kayak with a brand label added. Its a fine Yak. The price is really good (if you dont know the price per unit to get them from Vicking) and I am probably going to buy one from Hammerhead in the near future (or pony up for a pack of 3 from China and sell the extras for a tidy bundle). That said...its a real turn off, for me personally, when all the reviewers make these blatantly false claims. Wouldnt it be better (and you feel better about the review) if you just reviewed the Yak on its merits ( which, again, are considerable) instead of making up stories that just dont need to exist? Hi, and thanks for watching. Not there for the design phase, though I did see it, although not in the “marine architect” sense…more like the “this will be what our product looks like” sense. The hull from Vicking is fixed and new molds are expensive. Each company, in this case Hammerhead, tweaks the product with add-ons or features, and that can be an ongoing process…the last time I stopped by there, they were building a prototype of a seat upgrade. If whatever that was proves feasible, I’m sure he’ll submit the design to the manufacturer. I know Eddie because I’m a customer of his, not vice-versa, and I’ve enjoyed doing business with him. If you do buy one of his kayaks and think of a feature or improvement that could be made to it, let him know. He listens to and appreciates feedback, and he’s always looking for ways to improve his product. I apologize if I misspoke or was misunderstood…I certainly intended no deception or dishonesty. Stay Safe!

      @@DEADorALIVEkayaking Im probably gonna buy a kayak from him, if shipping doesnt cost an arm and a leg. It just sounds odd to my ear as I know its drop shipped. A lot of fine Yaks are made in China...FeelFree, Vibe, HooDoo, Riot. So thats not an issue for me. And since you cant buy just 1 from Vicking the markup (ive checked on buying the 3 minumum with shipping from Vicking myself) is pretty fair...but if the shipping on top of that mark up is too much it swings to more economical for me to buy 3 from Vicking and have 3 for the price of one. I can buy a FeelFree Lure 13.5 with the pedal drive for the same price. I like this Yak more. The FeelFree ships free, this doesnt. Im willing to go a little extra for this Yak, so shipping isnt the breaking point. The breaking point is if Im paying what 3 costs plus enough to ship them from Vicking, why order one from your friend when I could order 3 from them. Thats what Im working over in my head and shopping cart.

    That really is awesome. I put my box up years ago and never have seen a bat. I need to put up another and relocate. I walk our street in PCB each night that I can and conduct counts. It is not high. I am pleased to see that we still have good numbers in some places.

    • @DEADorALIVEkayaking
      @DEADorALIVEkayaking 4 місяці тому

      If you’re seeing bats hunting in/around your yard, they know the box is there. They’re always looking for alternate housing, even if just to know where it’s at should they need it. If they haven’t taken up residence in your box, relocation might be the ticket…it needs to be between 10 and 25 feet off the ground, mine are 18’, with no obstructions underneath…no trees or high places for raptors to wait to ambush them if at all possible, at least 30+ feet away is preferable…face the box to the east or southeast to catch the morning sun, their body temperature is like 105 degrees, so they like it HOT! After that, wait. My first box was up four years before I saw bats, though judging by the numbers I saw then, they had probably been there awhile before I noticed. On the other hand, I know people who practically had bats circling while they were putting their box up! One other thing…do you know what kind of wood your box is made of? Despite most boxes being made of cedar, the old timer who made mine told me that cedar and other aromatic oils in some types of wood is bad for their young, which can lead to them avoiding it. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions or if you start seeing bats. Stay Safe!

    I just stumbled across this video. I am getting into fossil hunting in the area and am always interested in new areas to consider. This river seems to be one that is known to produce some fossils, so I appreciate your thorough video!

      Hi, and thanks for watching! The Sepulga is a great place for fossil hunting, as is the Conecuh, right below Point A dam! I also have close friends that fossil hunt on Econfina Creek in Florida. Good luck with the hunt, thanks again for watching, and Stay Safe!

      Hi, and thanks for watching! Both houses have a baby-saver “shelf”…and despite having to rescue a bat here and there that accidentally wound up on the ground (they can’t take off like birds, so if they end up on the ground they have to climb to be able to get airborne again)…this one was the first baby I’ve had to rescue in the several years they’ve lived here. Usually scooping them up and tossing them into the air is all they need, this one was just obviously too young to fly, and was likely just too adventurous for his own good. Stay Safe!
