TheRealMrMackey I love pink + white now but the first few times I listened to Blonde I didn’t understand that song at all, like, lyrically. I don’t blame him for that
Fun fact, the beat switch on Nights occurs exactly halfway through the album’s run time And it signals a tonal and lyrical shift between the first and second halves of the album
also goes with the binary theme of the album. the binary between his sexuality, and his masculinity/femininity. there's also the masculine and feminine spellings of Blonde. It says Blonde on digital versions, but Blond on the cover
It is halfway, but any other theory is a complete reach. There is absolutely no tonal and lyrical shift at all between halves. Each half has a mixture of tones and themes with no one single theme portraying the half.
WESLEY REACTS the whole album is about the duality between adolescence and adulthood, summer and autumn, traditional and experimental. The two halves of the album reflect this. Duality is all over the album, e.g. beat switches, high vs low voice, Blond/Blonde (masculine vs feminine), and lyrically as well.
Most of this album, especially like Siegfried sound a bit weird but then one day it will just hit you differently. I'm glad ur not all fake deep pretending to understand the whole album.

This album is like heart break medicine. Soul cleansing. So ahead of its time. Perhaps too complex for some to even understand, it will run right past those who aren’t ready for it. But it is clearly the best album of our generation , and will go down as one of the greatest pieces of music of all time. Its been three years almost and i still listen to it everyday, and still blown away every time i hear it. Every sound is perfect. It is a flawless album. I could talk about it for hours. A true gem, we are blessed to live in the frank ocean generation.
This is so true like I tried listening to it once and didn’t get through Nikes and then like a year later did it and it was the best thing that ever happened to me point blank period
"I'll do anything for you..... in the dark." This repetition hits me in my SOUL everytime. The honesty, euphoria, vulnerability and shame all wrapped in that line is jaw-dropping.
Blonde is easily in my top 10 albums of all time. I honestly can’t think of another album I’ve heard that compares to it. Such a beautiful piece of music.
thing is blonde is not an album that most of us loved the first time. u listen to it over and over and that’s where you notice how amazing it is and it slowly climbs to one of our favorites ever
I WISH I could hear this album for the first time again. I remember that Self Control & Good Guy hit me so hard. There is something so vulnerable about those tracks. The outro on that song sounds so inspired by Bon Iver. This album is incredible and a pinnacle of experimental music, impossible to define with a single genre.
I've watched like 10 different reaction videos of this album and yours is easily the best. Not because of the fact that you cried a few times but because you're the only one listening to this album properly. Everyone else is either just jamming to the instrumentals and ignoring the lyrics or they're overanalyzing the lyrics and messages too much and not processing the rest of the music. The best way to fully experience this album is to listen to it the way you did. I also hope you listened to it more than once because this album grows with each listen. I MADE IT! Awesome video Jon. This is one of those albums I wish I could go back and hear for the first time again, beautiful and brave the whole way through. I think this setup works really well for the more experimental albums like this, Some Rap Songs, Atrocity Exhibition, Avantdale Bowling Club, etc. It's cool you get to soak it all in. I hope more like this to come, and you find more music you love :)
i don’t remember her name, but the gospel singer really strikes a chord, i’m not really all that religious, but i feel like i’m floating into another realm
For me, it wasn’t Self-Control that hit me in this album, it was Seigfried. It was the first song in this album that I heard actually. Something about him saying “One solar flare we’re consumed so why not, spend this flammable paper on the film that’s my life, high flights, inhale the vapour and think twice, eat some shrooms, maybe have a good cry, about you. See some colours, light hang glide off the moon, in the dark.” Was nearly in tears once the song ended
The fact that White Ferrari reminded u of the movie Drive is crazy. I always thought the same, and that soundtrack always brings about the same vibes. I FEEL YOU JOHN
Oh man. Welcome to the club. I first heard Ivy as a single track, decided to listen to the album not too long after and Ivy made me cry like a baby when I heard it the second time 😫😫😫🤣🤣🤣
doesn't matter if you're a male, female, gay, straight, or anything in between, when Frankie comes in on Self Control we all have a moment of weakness 14:07
It's been 4 years since Frank blessed us with Blonde and I still can't get over his artistry and the honest display of his feelings. What a time to be alive.
Jesus, I love Frank so much. Been listening to him for years and years and his music never loses it's glimmer. Makes me tear up and is so incredibly nostalgic for me. Found him when I was in high school, and brings me back to that time and those feelings every time I listen to him. There is something so special about him that will always strike a chord with me.
It’s crazy, a comment as simple as yours gets all the right words and makes me feel exactly what I used to feel when I heard it for the first couple of times. The nostalgia, memories, feeling of that deep first love feeling. No matter how many years ago it was, everytime I hear this album, I’m reminded of the simpler times when blond consumed my emotions. We still all have core memories about this album and how it makes us reminisce
Pink + White is absolutely my favorite song on this album. However there are a lot of incredible songs on it. But the feeling created from pink + white is simply irreplaceable.
I dont know why i keep coming back to these blond reactions. Theres just something in witnessing someone experiencing something really important to me for the first time.
This album was my go to going through tough times walking around my neighbourhood during dusk. I literally now love listening to it whilst the sunsets. I’m in Australia so the sunsets are almost as amazing as this album.

End of godspeed be hitting me like a train😪
i don’t remember her name, but the gospel singer really strikes a chord, i’m not really all that religious, but i feel like i’m floating into another realm
m Kim Burrell. Her vocals have always been sick
When he said it I didn't contemplate it but seeing it as words on a page, it really is poetry.
Blond will forever be one of the greatest albums of all time
The fact that White Ferrari reminded u of the movie Drive is crazy. I always thought the same, and that soundtrack always brings about the same vibes. I FEEL YOU JOHN
It’s crazy that I’ve watched this video probably 5 times in the past year. Never disappoints.
Wish I could listen to this masterpiece for the first time again ;(. What a crazy experience it is. Can’t believe you waited this long JD!!
the instrumental in siegfried is from another planet. unbelievable track
I'm telling you, one day the second half of the album hits you hard but you'll never know when
"I'll just move on to pink and white" after ivy made him cry, oh man what a first listen this album was 😭😭
No matter where I’m at or what I’m doing, when self control plays I get deeeep in my feels, the whole song makes u feel things
