Abel's commentary on this album:...”picture the album being like the listener is dead. And they're stuck in this purgatory state, which I always imagined would be like being stuck in traffic waiting to reach the light at the end of the tunnel. And while you're stuck in traffic, they got a radio station playing in the car, with a radio host guiding you to the light and helping you transition to the other side. So it could feel celebratory, could feel bleak, however, you want to make it feel, but that's what 'The Dawn' is for me."
YES. I actually did it on my sixth listening (i didn't like it at first, cuz I was tired and just didn't feel good), I closed my eyes and imagined that I died, that I see some large open place with dark blue light and there's gap, in this gap there's golden light stsrting to come through (cuz of his album cover, it was actually like it), and there was some old radio in that place, and Jim Carrey's voice introducing to 103.5 Dawn FM is really brilliant.
And gap is far far away, I can't reach it, because Jim says: *"You've been in the dark for way too long It's time to walk into the light And accept your fate with open arms Scared? Don't worry We'll be there to hold your hand and guide you through this painless transition But what's the rush? Just relax and enjoy another hour of commercial (Free yourself) music on 103.5 Dawn FM Stay tuned"* And it actually blows your mind, cuz it consistently leading you to that light, there's smooth story going on, while Jim guiding you. And I put it on my S-tier of Weeknd's album tbh, it was great after listening to it from start to end several times.
Makes sense why Jim Carey did this. He's had (ego death) and considers himself dead already and just a bunch of tetrahedrons vibrating at incredible speeds blah blah blah. Jesus is lord
The weeknd has balls. He moved away from his natural sound and still killed it. It's a masterpiece. Just takes listens because we arent use to this style from him.

I think “Less Than Zero” is the perfect combination of all his music. It combines the dark twisted Abel with his newer synth pop type beat which truly brings a masterpiece bound to spark emotion whether u want it to or not lol
My favorite track for sure, its one of his darkest songs i think he ever came out with imo but its weird how he meshes those lyrics with what i feel like is an up-beat/vibe type of beat throughout the song
Kudos to Abel for making that rarest of things: a true concept album. An immersive experience into a whole, cohesive, dark and moody world. Also, it's like the Human League and MJ had a glorious and unexpected baby.
seriously so brilliant. as an 80s kid i was taken back in time into some dusty old memories, and into all of our futures and the inevitability of death all the the same time. really creates some powerful emotions. the theme of right and wrong and what that means in the context of all of us dying anyway is something that's only natural to ruminate over and he expressed those ruminations more beautifully, disturbingly, effectively than i've ever heard. i never cared that much for 80's music because the technology just wasn't there and it sounds a bit tinny and thin. so i love this revival of the sound now that they can make it sound as full and impactiful as it should have sounded in the first place. i love everything about this album. it's going to go down in history as a great classic.
I hadn’t heard Take My Breath until this album, and I can indeed tell you I LOST MY MIND on the transition lmaooo 😂 my favorite song on the album for sure too
I loved this album so much. The project as a whole is so cohesive you EXPERIENCE this music. It’s not like any song really sticks out as THE HIT, but the whole project is just so flawless
This is clearly his most cohesive album in terms of the songs blending into each other and creating a storyline. It’s definitely going to grow on most people who have listened once or twice and don’t like it as much as his older stuff. I prefer his older music however I’m not going to gate-keep the trilogy stuff especially when he was making that music as a drug & sex addicted 20 year old. He’s clearly in a better place now and has developed tenfold as an artist. I’m excited to look back at the songs I find “mid” right now in around three months to see how my opinion has hopefully changed for the better. XOTWOD.
100% agree I was not crazy about the album at first but my second listen through actually hit differently for some reason. Still not as great as after hours but its fantastic nonetheless!
One thing that's so clever is that its a clear follow up to After hours. After hours ends with Until I bleed Out, so it seems that Abel's hedonistic self indulgent character has died and has transitioned into the afterlife which is what Dawn is able to encapsulate so well.
I disagree - Until I Bleed out wasn’t *Literally* him dying- it meant he’s doomed to repeat the same mistakes of After Hours till it kills him “Until I bleed out” The Dawn was just hinted as being the horizon sunrise that washes away the dark.. it’s just entering a new phase in his life - i don’t think it’s that heavily connected.
I think it’s both. UIBO is a killing of the dark party monster side of Abel as well as a killing of the character and Dawn FM is him waiting in purgatory waiting and listening to 103.5 Dawn FM which results in him thinking back on his life choices. Really smart
@@Nehru22 thank you man 🙏 I love over analyzing my favorite music and trying to pick apart the small details under the surface. Tbf Abel said the purgatory part himself, but the UIBO thingy I came up with this morning
@@coastercraziness cool, I saw your other comments and responses on this video as well and they're great. Tbh this album gives you a "feeling", it's hard to describe lol. On first listen ngl I didn't really take to it. I especially didn't like certain tracks at all. But now I'm finding myself listening to it over and over today and it the album really transports you with its vibe. The most important thing I think is that he went in a different direction with this album and it's better to alienate some fans than for your music to be predictable.
This man truly can do no wrong musically omfg. Whether it’s haunted strip club r&b, an old r&b sound, an 80s synth pop sound, a radio pop sound, etc I swear his vision & producers execute it so well
the weeknd probably has the best production team on the planet right now. I don't even know most of the lyrics of these songs but his voice syncs so well with the beat and rhythm. he's also mastered the art of transitioning between songs. he's easily the top artist now in the world and It's not close.
Every single weeknd album starts off leaving you feeling a bit unsure but they always grow into classics with time. I remember Kissland feeling different and unusual for abel and nearly 10 years later it’s a masterpiece. Same with every single project he puts out and I know that this will evolve into something even more beautiful with every listen
@@stillnotchill2560 after hours sucked for me at first I didn't like it until 6 months after it come out when I just happened to listne to it all the way through again
To me, the album is incredible. To see this man's evolution, sonically and personally, from the kid in Trilogy, to this, just amazing. The soundstage, the narration throughout, the lyrics, the vocals, the instrumentals. Maybe I'm more amazed because some of the lyrics hit a personal note, but still, his voice is beautiful, the instrumentals always take you to a new place, and I find that his every album is a new experience, and for the people who really appreciate the story behind the albums and his journey, this will be a treat. 10/10
I simply cannot believe how The Weeknd is capable of producing such great albums with such great storytelling continuously year after year. Creative exhaustion doesn't seem to be a thing for Abel. I absolutely love how this album has been put together. People who are expecting a "one hit song" from the album should rethink the way they listen to this album. It completely makes sense why he designed it as a radio broadcast. And Jim Carrey's inclusion is just sublime
I 100% agree with you, I really love how the weekend tells the story , a real body of artistic work, story of starboy ( his rise to fame), after hours ( the epitome of celebrity, money, fame, plastic surgery, drugs ), now dawn fm ( the grand showdown, reflection of one's life), I wonder what album is going to be after dawn, x
7 days later I listened to DawnFM 14 hours (2 times day) plus watched most reactions. I can't choose one song to play, every time I listen I start from the beginning and let it ride. It's a total experience each time. I love it.
Exactly. I have the whole album in order on my favorites playlist because it’s honestly a crime to leave any of the songs out with out smooth the transitions are and how cohesive the whole album is.
After Hours only contained fragments of the 80s aesthetics, there was more of a blend with his older style within that album which fit that dark aesthetic from front to back of falling into a void of drugs, mistakes, etc. With how he rolled out Dawn FM as a sequel and stating this is like being in purgatory (in traffic with this as the radio station playing) on the way to the light. This album goes full 80s with production and pushes the lighter tone, understanding his mistakes and ascending to heaven. Even the order of the track-list with the party vibes out front seems like him being tempted with the dark side. As soon as we get insight from the OG Quincy about how his mother was not in his life, took a toll in his future life with his relationship with women, the album crescendo’s into Abel accepting his fate and wanting to change his ways. This is a work of art and it astounds me of how someone from my city has gotten so big and successful.
The best description of the album!!! AH only had 4 or 5 songs with the 80s songs sound. The majority were the typical R&B experimental of always of Abel. Now he release a full 80s sound album.
Afterhours didn't hit me the first time and now it's my favourite Weeknd album. This one also was hitting the 2nd time I listened to it. I remember when people said blinding lights was lame, now it's the most successful song in billboard top 100 history
I’ve been listening to this album nonstop since it came out and I can’t get away from it 😭I also can’t play it on shuffle cause the transitions and production are so good
Blinding lights is such a catchy yet complex bop. There is no way a casual listener or a person with good musical knowledge wouldn’t at least like it in some way.
Jon i’m glad you’re enjoying it as much as I did mate. The best musical experience i’ve ever had. Intergalactic, sonic, beautiful melodies, the harmonisation, the ambience. You are my go-to for experiencing this music with someone who values the degree of music this man produces.

When you said it gets better the more you listen, you are so right. I've listened to the entire album probably over 20 times now and every time i get more and more into every song!
Gasoline's production never fails to take me to a completely different world for the length of the song. It's just an incredible track and quite possibly one of Abels top 5 songs.
This album grows into you. Music is not meant to listen only once. Everytime you listen to this album you're going to like the songs more and more till you cant get enough of it. The album is so different than his past albums BBTM,MDM,Starboy,After hours. It has experimental sounds, themes. From upbeat to slow to poetry of jim everything is here. So i get it when you're surprised on your 1st listenting. BUT DONT JUDGE ONLY BY HEARING ONCE! Thats what i love about him. He doesnt make consistantly same type of songs. With new era comes new sounds. But some assholes still gon' hate. Some said after hours is his worst album when it first came out. Now look where it is 💀 Im already lostenting for 8th time now and man i love those transitions, the story. I feel like imma ascend to hevean.
@@coastercraziness i was disappointed with every angel is terrifying. The intro was so good, i was really looking forward to it being an actual song :(

People want that starboy vibe we’ll go listen to that album lol we’re in a different era now and that’s what I love about The Weeknd it’s something different every album different storyline
It’s not really 80s music - it’s a small slither of what 80s music was like cos it’s just retro / synth pop which wasn’t the only thing released back then.
@@firstlast9846 It's heavily inspired by '80s New Wave, though. You can hear the Depeche Mode and Human League influence all over this, especially on tracks like Gasoline and Don't Break My Heart.
Fam I love trap and new school music, I was born in 2006, and this album is an absolute masterpiece , from take my breath to is there someone else, what an absolute banger
It's crazy to come back to this reaction since all the singles and cinematics for Hurry Up Tomorrow. The whole of Hurry Up Tomorrow is literally described in "Every Angel is Terrifying" which is crazy. Abel said before that his music is planned years in advance and I think Dawn FM solidified that fact. I am beyond stoked to see how Dawn FM links from AH to Hurry Up Tomorrow. I'm in aw at how long it has taken me to realise this.
Holy shit someone else had the same thought. Legitimately my first impression with the Dawn FM radio snippets and album cover, mixed with the heavy disco themes
I wish Abel had never released Take My Breath as a single. If I heard that transition from How Do I Make You Love Me? into the full extended version of Take My Breath, I would have fucking lost my mind. I can only imagine how I would have felt hearing the bridge towards the end of the song where the synths just go fucking nuts but Abel decided to release it as a cut down radio single so 🤷♂️

All I can say is that this album came when I was at my lowest. I can't be more grateful to Abel. This album grew on me and I ended up crying after hearing Less than zero. It was such an amazing ride. Thank you XO crew and Abel !!!
I had covid and I was isolating a week ago, this album healed me for sure. Less than zero is a very powerful song in terms of emotion and message, it's the track that people will notice later, now everybody talks about is there someone else, gasoline or out of time, but they'll see soon that less than zero is actually insanely good
@@michaelmentality I get ppl who are wanting old Abel music to see this album as “just okay” upon first listen but this album is far from garbage. It’s the dance, disco, pop record that he’s always had the chops to do and he did it with flying colors. It might grow on u if you stop looking for xerox copies of his old music. It’s been less than 24 hours. Give it a month and you’ll be rockin to this at every function w a drink in ur hand and ur dancing pants on
The album will definitely grow on you. It surely is a vibe. We’ll get to understand the album more once the music videos are all out and see what he has in his bag for us this time! But this feels truly a great sequel to After Hours
Indeed part of Weeknd projects is the narrative - but most the tracks here just kind of boring as opposed to After Hours or any other project he’s dropped.. this is by far the weakest.
I hope it does grow on me Definitely need a music video that explains how this is a sequel to After Hours cause so far this does not sound or explain how this is a sequel
Never knew there would be someone who could mash together my love of Retrowave, depressive self-hating narcissism, and beautiful vocal riffs quite like this...
idk if u knew this coming into the album, but Abel said that Dawn FM is supposed to be the radio station you listen to while you're driving down the highway to afterlife. jim is your spiritual leader, trying to ease your transition into peaceful death. it really clears up what the album statement is.
Also I cannot explain the full body goosebumps I get when Less Than Zero starts. I don't know what it is about it but it makes me feel like I'm riding into a desert sunset in an old convertible smiling into the beautiful nothingness.
I am so glad I have a diverse palette for music bc I can see why the album is getting mixed reviews from fans who want to hear more Trilogy-esque type of music from Abel. But as person who enjoy music as a whole, it’s hard not to get lost in the production and vocals and overall cohesiveness of this album. Hip-Hop and R&B will forever be my favorites but seeing Abel explore and seriously nail these 80s vibes makes me enjoy this album so much more. That being said, even though it’s a very upbeat album… for the most part, it’s very dark. A lot of talk of the afterlife/death and I think he brings a new dynamic to the genre which is meant to be more happy and energetic.
This album will be my very first album I ever bought. I don't usually buy albums because they're expensive and I can just listen them anytime online, but this album is just my cup of tea.
Abel took a tremendous step away from his regular sound on this album, and I really, really liked how he achieved it. It's not on the same level as his prior albums yet, but as with other great albums, people will begin to connect with it and discover that it's just as sonically cohesive as After Hours. This is definitely dark and gritty electronic music, which isn't something you'll hear very often in the mainstream. This album is like Future Nostalgia's big emo brother.
@@Nehru22 I find it similar only to the 80s vibe, heavy synths, and drums that resonates throughout the songs. Apart from that, this one is grittier and more experimental.
Couldn't be more proud of all the swedish boys delivering some insane production once again. SHM x Abel is the pinnacle of perfect collaboration and happened at the perfect moment of the weeknd's discography
Whats amazing is where he is getting his influences from, this album has heavy City Pop vibes For those who don't know: City Pop is a Japanese genre that was basically the sound of 80s music in Japan, look up Mariya Takeuchi or Tatsuro Yamashita if you want hear two of biggest names in City Pop
I felt like I was in a fucking trance listening to this album, eyelids were getting heavy, body sinking deeper into my bed...idk bro this album hit different and I'm all for it
After listening and watching the "DAWN FM broadcast live", yesterday, I swear, I couldn't speak for one an hour. I was totally exhausted. So much my music, the rhythm, the beats, the synthies, so different tracks, Abel with his heavenly voice brilliant as always, Jim, Quincy, WOW, all so overwhelming. A very, very sophisticated album. I don't know any similar. Fantastic work!
I listened to The Weeknd since the beginning and at first, this album didn't hit too hard until the 3rd time i heard it, then i found it to be absolutely AMAZING!!!! Now i can't get enough, Less Than Zero and Is There Someone Else became too good!!!
I never expected him to make an album so thematic and theatrical as this... but i knew if he did he would pull it off. After the first few listens of this albums i can say without a doubt that is true.
I love the story of this album, and Jim Carrey was perfect in every sense of the word. His narration was absolutely beautiful and enchanting, yet it had a dark tone to it and it felt like a warning. “You better enjoy this last hour of your life, you better come to peace with everything that has happened, because you’re about to die and think about it forever and ever.” Out of Time, Gasoline, How Do I Make You Love Me?, Sacrifice, Take My Breath, I Heard You’re Married, Less Than Zero, there are some phenomenal tracks on here even by The Weeknd’s standards. I didn’t care for Tyler’s feature too much, I thought it was a little too short. But I loved Wayne’s feature. He flows on it really nice, I love his lyrics that he spit, and I thought he fit right into the song. On a first listen, it’s not quite there with After Hours. The pacing issues in the middle on a first listen dragged it down for a couple of tracks. But when you get to the last 3 tracks you’re sucked right back into it. On 4-5 more listens, this album will only get better and better and better. I’d give it an 8.5/10. Loved your reaction Jon! The Weeknd comes through once again!

The intro track seems like it takes place just after the ‘Until I Bleed Out‘ mv, where we can see Abel lay lifelessly in a mirror for a split second and at the end of the video where he seemingly lost his will to live. After his death, he is encouraged by Jim Carrey‘s voice to step out of the dark which could be seen as a description for some sort of existential plane for unresting souls and accept his death as his ultimate fate and wander into the light to begin his final journey. Everything following in this album could be seen in one of two ways: Either Abel revisits his past relationships and mistakes because he holds these moments precious and as we know from his comments all over the album about his nihilistic view, he thinks he is experiencing his last conscious moments ever and these are the memories he cares about the most so he relives them one last time; or, as we hear Jim say 'You gotta be Heaven to see Heaven' at the end of Phantom Regret, he decides to contemplate about his mistakes not for the sake of reliving them for the last time, but rather to accept them as part of who he is and find closure, bringing him inner peace and achieve a heavenly state for his soul. Whether Abel will go on to live forever or if his sceptical view on the concept of afterlife will be his ultimate demise and leave his soul dead for good is up for the listener to decide.
I really appreciate abel for not going too mainstream with this. As a concept album, it was a great listen. Even though it's not as good as after hours, it still delivers.
I think this is Abel‘s Masterpiece. It‘s a spiritual experience unlike any I‘ve seen & heard. Even sonically this is just beyond its time. Only he could do something like this without seeming pretentious and messianic
Never listened to this type of music aside from synthwave type of instrumentals. I love it and I can't get enough of it. My second listen was on Saturday night in my car with the windows rolled down in 40 degree weather. It was amazing
"A Tale by Quincy" gives of a real "Giorgio by Moroder" vibe to this album, and I LOVE IT. a nice little interlude to bring the tempo down JUUUST long enough to kick the album back off afterwards.
If you enjoyed this DEFINITELY watch Uncut Gems where The Weeknd works with this absolute synth-loving genius for the first time. You'll hear the iconic synth sounds in the soundtrack all throughout
I have a theory about Abel’s career from here on out. Until I Bleed Out is a metaphorical death not only of the character as seen through Dawn FM, but is the death of The Weeknd as a character and transforming from a party monster who loves the fast life to someone who’s settling down and just wants a long lasting relationship Until I Bleed Out is the turning point of The Weeknd. Up until this point he his loved the fast life which he’s been living for so long at this point. He finally realizes that he doesn’t want it anymore and he just wants a long standing relationship with someone that he loves. That’s where the focus of the lyrics of Dawn FM. He’s actually finding someone he’s interested in, but he loses out on her. Then is sent to heaven as Jim Carrey makes apparent in Phantom Regret by Jim The whole album is him in purgatory rethinking his life listening to a radio station 103.5 Dawn FM while waiting to move into the after life. He’s rethinking all of his life choices and his decisions and realizes he screwed up. This I think will lead to a new reformed version of Abel in the future, where he’s chasing real love instead of all the darkness that was in his life beforehand What do y’all think?
@@easonchen900 Ik that side of Abel is great, but he’s just not that kind of a person anymore and I’m guessing he doesn’t wanna make music like that anymore
Damn, that's a good theory, I completely concur with the idea of him transforming from a party person to more of a mature and wanting real type of love person
I swear "I heard you're married" bring me back to "Liberian girl" from MJ in some The Weeknd's intonations. + That "I want to thank you" sample on "Sacrifice" is just amazing. Best track for me.
It's really good tho I mean it could have been after hours track of dawn fm but one reason could be that it will be way too long and won't fit as a radio theme or his love for 80s is way to much that he wants everything including ads or maybe just to tease us. Definitely not a waste
@@lalithr9272 I think he is going to use that sound for his next project ‘After Life’. He’s been hinting at after life on his social media and Every Angel is Terrifying almost seems to be an ad or some sort of promotion/hint towards his next project. But I’m not sure, just a hunch🤷♂️
@@matthewstansfield1353 that’s what I thought while listening to it. Since the whole song is framed as an ad, my theory is that the intro of the song, would be the first track of “afterlife”
finally listened to the album and it's easily one of the best to come out in the past few years. he's reviving new wave, funk, and soul in a modern way and i love it. his artistry never disappoints.
What I love the most about being a fan is the constant evolution. When we get an album, we also get to experience where he is in his life but also sonically, and The dawn FM shows us that he's in a better place. I'm not sure about his next move. I highly doubt that Abel can ever be predictable musically. When he released starboy and MDM that was a very strange transition, but it all goes to show how he refuses to put unauthentic music. Also, I don't understand people that don't like 80s music??!! I truly enjoyed this vibe. I will be soaking up this album until the next and forever indulge in whatever he puts out. Not only that, but I have an album for each mood, each stage of life. And we get to have more in the future? Come on. The ungrateful fans that complain about this one don't get any sympathy for me. I listen to his earliest stuff all the time, my second most played song last year was coming down, but hear me out! You can also, at the same time, listen to the new stuff! It isn't mutually exclusive. There's way too much music to enjoy.

And that’s exactly what it feels like 👏🏻 Abel
Damn guess I'm dead then...

DAWN FM Review and analysis of it's deeper meaning
that’s his most well criticized album ever
Abel cried during “Phantom Regret by Jim” in the live show, you can tell this album meant a lot to him.
I think he also cried during starry eyes but I’m not 100% sure!
I also cried on Phantom Regret but it felt like a father figure was guiding me to death and afterlife
he also cried during less than zero
Wait where can I see the live show?
It's very emotional. It feels like a roll credits/videogame end screen, but of your life. And your just praying and hoping your score was good enough
Kudos to Abel for making that rarest of things: a true concept album. An immersive experience into a whole, cohesive, dark and moody world.
Also, it's like the Human League and MJ had a glorious and unexpected baby.
Only other person I’ve seen mention Human League which is exactly what I’ve been thinking this whole time!! Kudos to you!!
@@beaniealex and me! For real that specific 80s genre shining through
seriously so brilliant. as an 80s kid i was taken back in time into some dusty old memories, and into all of our futures and the inevitability of death all the the same time. really creates some powerful emotions. the theme of right and wrong and what that means in the context of all of us dying anyway is something that's only natural to ruminate over and he expressed those ruminations more beautifully, disturbingly, effectively than i've ever heard. i never cared that much for 80's music because the technology just wasn't there and it sounds a bit tinny and thin. so i love this revival of the sound now that they can make it sound as full and impactiful as it should have sounded in the first place. i love everything about this album. it's going to go down in history as a great classic.

XOTWOD.
Kiss land?
the storyline on after hours was better but i agree with everything else
This is exactly where I am
vivalasexy kiss land TELLS a story yes but the songs don’t blend into each other and aren’t as pleasing to the ear as the songs on dawn fm imo
@@coastercraziness you have some great takes on The Weeknd bro 👍🏾
@@Nehru22 thank you man 🙏 I love over analyzing my favorite music and trying to pick apart the small details under the surface. Tbf Abel said the purgatory part himself, but the UIBO thingy I came up with this morning

Same, kissland/ after hours I had the same initial reaction
Afterhours hit me hard immediately. Dawn FM growing on me but I don't think it's better than after-hours for me

When I read nearly 10 years later, I thought hold up kissland ain’t that old. Then I remembered we’re in 2020
To me, the album is incredible. 10/10
MyGe a hot take but this is probably my favorite Weeknd album. Only 1-2 ok songs. Rest are great to perfect
This is his weakest vocal performance on an album
Tako je Jovane! xo
It’s pretty sad that he went from making the songs that he made on Trilogy to putting out hot garbage like this
Yeah bc you’re a Weeknd stan who will love anything he drops. Tbh this is his worst album to date.
And Jim Carrey's inclusion is just sublime
he is a genius
I 100% agree with you, I really love how the weekend tells the story , a real body of artistic work, story of starboy ( his rise to fame), after hours ( the epitome of celebrity, money, fame, plastic surgery, drugs ), now dawn fm ( the grand showdown, reflection of one's life), I wonder what album is going to be after dawn, x
Sacrifice is the hit if they are looking for it anyway. Shit is incredible
I actually start with Phantom Regret and let it loop from there. Something cinematic about it.
@@kadeshdubose5535 you gotta be heaven, to see heaven I guess. 🤔
Omg yes i listened to it all day every day when it first came out hahah

Honestly coming back to the album, as a whole it’s The Weeknd’s best work since Trilogy days. A complete album.
idk if u knew this coming into the album, but Abel said that Dawn FM is supposed to be the radio station you listen to while you're driving down the highway to afterlife. jim is your spiritual leader, trying to ease your transition into peaceful death. it really clears up what the album statement is.

Abel took a tremendous step away from his regular sound on this album, and I really, really liked how he achieved it. It's not on the same level as his prior albums yet, but as with other great albums, people will begin to connect with it and discover that it's just as sonically cohesive as After Hours. This is definitely dark and gritty electronic music, which isn't something you'll hear very often in the mainstream.

exactly how i was
After listening and watching the "DAWN FM broadcast live", yesterday, I swear, I couldn't speak for one an hour.
His ability to create masterpieces and such beautiful albums is beyond me he’s honestly amazing
This album is so damn good, love 80s synth and needed more of it. And what Jim Carrey was saying was so profound, I love it!
Those transitions and the experience of feeling like I was really listening to the radio just had me in a euphoric state alone. Such a great album
I love the story of this album, and Jim Carrey was perfect in every sense of the word. His narration was absolutely beautiful and enchanting, yet it had a dark tone to it and it felt like a warning. “You better enjoy this last hour of your life, you better come to peace with everything that has happened, because you’re about to die and think about it forever and ever.”
Out of Time, Gasoline, How Do I Make You Love Me?, Sacrifice, Take My Breath, I Heard You’re Married, Less Than Zero, there are some phenomenal tracks on here even by The Weeknd’s standards.
Definitely gonna be one of my fave non-rap albums of the year. A strong 9. Needs a definite or almost 10 to top it.

Exactly what I been saying, he kept it fresh at the risk of alienating some people but that's better than being boring
I think it’s his best album lol.
how is this not too mainstream? it’s 80s pop garbage
@@ilikeu1010101010101 i mean House Of Balloons exists and he'll never really surpass that but it was still great
I think this is Abel‘s Masterpiece. It‘s a spiritual experience unlike any I‘ve seen & heard. Even sonically this is just beyond its time. Only he could do something like this without seeming pretentious and messianic
🤣🤣
Completely agree with you.
Agreed
Never listened to this type of music aside from synthwave type of instrumentals. I love it and I can't get enough of it. My second listen was on Saturday night in my car with the windows rolled down in 40 degree weather. It was amazing
I feel like “Here We Go… Again” will be a grower. Idk to each their own but listening to it just made me happy and Abel’s parts just made me smile.
Facts man! I loved the song tbh
One of my favorites 🤌💯🎵🎶🎵🎶
here we go again sounds like a song i'd hear in a dream and i'm about to lose it as I wake up, i love it so much
I was born in 1985 and Abel fully took me back to when I was partying in my dads balls.. WHAT AN ALBUM.. what a start to 22 .. there is no better imo
😂
Pause
🤣
you typed that out and still decided to press comment
😂
7:00 that transition alone makes this album a masterpiece.
thisss !!
The Weeknd's talent is just unbelievable, he doesn't even have 1 bad project.
Honestly this album is still not upto his standards. Im being more optimistic that this would grow
this album is bad
@@criss9586 haha. You probably listen to Travis Scott
@@Fyi66661 lol
2 weeks later and I haven’t gone a single day without listening to a song from the album, if not the whole album. This album is AMAZING!
"A Tale by Quincy" gives of a real "Giorgio by Moroder" vibe to this album, and I LOVE IT. a nice little interlude to bring the tempo down JUUUST long enough to kick the album back off afterwards.
I was saying that and no one got me what I was saying THANK YOU
When The Weeknd releases any new song, the next thing I desperately want is your reaction! Absolutely spot on, on this one too!
Dawn fm is garbage
@@michaelmentality Ahh dude, trash talk won't demean it one bit.
this album feels so much like Thriller to me, by far the best production on a The Weeknd album.
This album literally took my breath I love it, it gives you all the 80s vibes🕺🏿✨
Your reaction was gold.
I like it when album covers are this unique. It's so authentic.
If you enjoyed this DEFINITELY watch Uncut Gems where The Weeknd works with this absolute synth-loving genius for the first time. You'll hear the iconic synth sounds in the soundtrack all throughout
duuuude you're so right, haven't realized cause I watched that movie long time ago but now that you mention it makes so much sense
OPN aka Daniel Lopatin!
I have a theory about Abel’s career from here on out. Until I Bleed Out is a metaphorical death not only of the character as seen through Dawn FM, but is the death of The Weeknd as a character and transforming from a party monster who loves the fast life to someone who’s settling down and just wants a long lasting relationship
Until I Bleed Out is the turning point of The Weeknd. Then is sent to heaven as Jim Carrey makes apparent in Phantom Regret by Jim
The whole album is him in purgatory rethinking his life listening to a radio station 103.5 Dawn FM while waiting to move into the after life. He’s rethinking all of his life choices and his decisions and realizes he screwed up. This I think will lead to a new reformed version of Abel in the future, where he’s chasing real love instead of all the darkness that was in his life beforehand
What do y’all think?
Could be but i love the darkness abel ,that is what i became XO
@@easonchen900 Ik that side of Abel is great, but he’s just not that kind of a person anymore and I’m guessing he doesn’t wanna make music like that anymore
Damn, that's a good theory,
I completely concur with the idea of him transforming from a party person to more of a mature and wanting real type of love person
@@bhu0019 he really is making that evident in this album, I think he’s not gonna be as dark of an artist anymore. Still sad, but very little toxicity
@@coastercraziness exactly :))
This album is just a prime example of why 80’s music will forever be the superior era of music.
90's music was better imo
@@lavarball528 respect that I’m 20 and 80’s is mine!?

I loved Less than Zero, really had a similar vibe to After Hours.
I swear "I heard you're married" bring me back to "Liberian girl" from MJ in some The Weeknd's intonations. + That "I want to thank you" sample on "Sacrifice" is just amazing. Best track for me.
Less Than Zero literally got me levitating
I honestly love “Phantom Regret by Jim”, thinking about adding it to my playlist as well
He is a self realization guy. Very unique
Nobody cares
Most creative artist of all time. I love it how he try different styles with his music 🖤 XO
I wish the first 40 seconds of Every Angel is Terrifying lead into its own song. I can’t believe he wasted it on a skip.
Thought the same
On Goddddd
I'm so so so incredibly happy that OPN co-produced most of the tracks on this. I've waited for so long to hear a project with Abel over OPN's synths
finally listened to the album and it's easily one of the best to come out in the past few years. he's reviving new wave, funk, and soul in a modern way and i love it. his artistry never disappoints.
The first 4 songs are just mind blowing back to back
What I love the most about being a fan is the constant evolution.
"Is There Someone Else?" It's my favorite by far!
playing "in your eyes" after "phantom regret" feels like entering a parallel dimension
Una joyita
Gotta try this!!!
"Until I bleed it out" and "Phantom Regret" would make a better parallel dimension
