I built the system with identical components except substituted the Allegro 9903 shield mask. (couldn't find a deal like Dean did!) Just assembling, but first impression is that the air flow is good, but the hose is a bit bulky. Need to work on some type of support or tie off in order to manage the arrangement. Spent just under $300 with an open box sale price on the shield mask of $150. I removed the hose that came with the 9903 and attached the Rockler hose directly.
Even on hi there is no fan noise coming across. The helmet does put you in a bit of a cave, but very clear and understandable. Remember to cut the mic input back just a touch and you should be good to go.
The new system is a definite improvement audio wise. I couldn't tell before this video where you did a side by side. The new one does have a slight echo or hollow sound. The only thing I would have a problem with would be being tethered to a fixed point. Let us know in the future if you find it to be a problem. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.
I know that HEPA filtration can be expensive. Your system needs to be plugged in so that limits you to either having an outlet nearby or dragging around a long hose. I use the 3m versaflo system and the filter battery pack and pump all mount on a belt. It's basically the same as the Trend Airshield but without all the weight on your head and I don't notice any noise. Your audio comes through just fine.
Thanks for this video! I've been looking into the VersaFlo systems and i really like them... not so much their price. But, with a 3M helmet and hose, and a filter like this, i can get very similar results for sub $1000, thanks!
Great idea, Dean! I have a Triton helmet/shield comb, but the belt worn system that feeds it is dead. I'm been tinkering with the idea of using computer fans, but I like this idea, better. Thanks for sharing!

hi Dean, I use a trend shield,it's a bit heavy but fan is a bit loud for me to hear my music,old country,but works well and I am not going to make any pics so will work,good work though,but am going to make a air filtration system for my shop to pickup the dust that's in there,take care
Thanks for the video, I'm probably going to buy a Trend Air shield as I don't care about audio. I've had sinus problems lately, probably from dust. I wear a mask, but I also have a beard which makes it less effective. Mike Peace has a video out about toxic woods which makes me want better breathing protection.
I have the trend and love it the only issue I had with it was the fan noise on video. I also recomend it and have a link in the comments to one. So in my opinion you can not go wrong with it. Thanks for Watching!!

Very good idea! I had been considering something similar but was going to run a 3" pvc pipe down the center ceiling of my shop with connections points near each of my stations (lathe, table saw, router, etc.). Let us know how long the filter lasts.
The one I have is a 3M 407 for painters they make a 307 and others that do not have the cloth coming down around your sholders, and they are less money. 3M has ear muffs that attach to the side of the helment. Thanks for Watching!!
The specs say filter life is 3-6 mos. - this is with relatively clean room air. How long are your filters lasting in a shop environment? Does the unit come with an indicator as to when the filter needs replacing?

I also bought a HEPA air purifier and I'm planning on rigging in a similar manner you did. All in, I'm at about $300 which is far cry from current systems. Wonderful idea Dean. I've been looking for a solution to dust inhalation for quite some time, but so far haven't pulled the trigger on anything. Please keep us informed on how this works long-term. I'll be particularly interested in how long it takes for the filter to clog and how hard it is to clean. Would some sort of pre-filter be beneficial?
Can you tuck that draping neck piece into your shirt collar? I’ve been told to never have anything dangling over a lathe for safety, and that cloth seems a bit too loose. 😬

I used a cpap machine that I got from a family member who no longer uses it. Have a 3m dust hood but not as sturdy as Dean's.

What is the make and model of your face shield. Like the ability to tip it up; also can you fit a full sized 'ear muffs' inside that?

Not sure due to health reasons I have not been able to spend much time in the shop but I am still on the original filter.
