  • The Turbo actuator has totally failed. Lets find out why and I will install a new unit and calibrate it.

    Very helpful I have an Audi a1 that I’m trying to set my actuator up correctly and it looks suspiciously similar to your tiguans so I’m going to give your pdf a read ! Thanks you

    Thanks, great video. I did much the same and actually removed the turbo cartridge from the manifold housing to inspect the vanes because I wanted to confirm they were doing their job correctly before ordering parts. Pig of a job, mainly because the pipe union for oil supply loosened the fitting from the turbo rather than just from the pipe union. Eventually got there. Actuator should be here by the weekend.

    Very interesting, I have an issue with my Golf (stuck VNT vanes) which I will attend to shortly. Can I ask what diagnostic tool are you using there, very handy to be able to check those voltages. Thanks for putting this video up.

    Cost me $1200 at Barloworld VW to replace this part! My TDI Tig was going into limp mode off and on, hope this fixes it!

    On mine the 3 nuts on the side are blocked by a metal tube. Did you have to remove that to get the bolts out? Thanks

    When u did pull out the actuator,
    Was only one bolt on ,
    After watching the video , a second bolt was showing on the rod ,
    Can I know where did u find the second bolt ?
    Where about in Australia are u ?
    Are u in Victoria?

    • @PetesWorkshop
      @PetesWorkshop  2 роки тому

      Do you mean the nut that is on the rod at 0:35 seconds into the video? There are two nuts on the shaft to clamp to the vane arm. One nut above and one nut below. This is how you adjust the position of the turbo vanes. To remove the actuator you must remove the lower nut AND the 3 mounting bolts. Make sense? I’m in Brisbane, Australia.

    Excellent video ,but...missing most important part ! how you dismantled old actuator step bu step! thanks anyway !

      If the actuator fails the vacuum test, then there is no need to dismantle it. It must be replaced.

    I’ve got an question a friend of my says the actuator is broken but I don’t get any fault in vcds My symptoms are that the turbo kicks in at 3000rpm🤷🏼‍♂️ and nearly sometimes It kicks in at very low rpm like it normal TDI does 🤦🏼‍♂️

    • @PetesWorkshop
      @PetesWorkshop  2 роки тому

      The VNT actuator requires vacuum to operate. You should use VCDS to monitor the values and apply vacuum (use a vacuum pump) to check it. The Vanes in the turbo can get stuck and stop boost from being created. I think this may be your problem since you are not getting fault codes. You could also set up live data logging to compare ‘required boost’ to ‘actual boost’. I’m sure VCDS could do this. Let us know what you find out.

      Hey! Just wondering if it was the actuator?
      I’m having the same issue you describe, I’ve ended up onto this video so I’m hoping this is the issue!
      Thanks

    I love my VW but shit man this car is made of glass. No other car forced me to become mechanically inclined than this car has
