Armed 85-Year-Old Woman With .357 Magnum Proves To Robber Older Generations Are Built Different

- An 85-year-old woman in Idaho woke up at 2:00 a.m. to an intruder standing over her, pointing a 9mm pistol at her. The robber hit her, then took her into her living room, where he handcuffed her to a chair and demanded valuables.
She then told the robber there were safes with valuables downstairs. When he went downstairs to look, she dragged herself-chair and all-to where she kept her revolver, retrieved it, and waited for the robber to come back upstairs.
He returned in a rage because he had discovered her disabled son was in the home.
Seeing her moment, the 85-year-old woman grabbed the revolver and shot the intruder twice.
He returned fire, shooting in her arm, leg, chest, and abdomen.
However, the robber’s wounds caught up with him as he struggled to the kitchen, where he died.
Being 85 means this woman is part of The Silent Generation. If you know anything about the Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, &Generation X, they're psychos, in the best way possible, because they were raised differently.
This actually reminds me of a post I saw that said:
"Don't mess around with anyone over 42, they built different, their families had them formally trained in something by the time they were 2, they had keys to the house by age 5, could cook full meals at 7 and were pretty much self sufficient at 9.
They left their house at dawn every Summer morning and didn't come back til nightfall and survived all day on water from garden hoses, they might get a sandwich on the off chance somebody's parents had went shopping, they spent three quarters of their lives by themselves with a parent maybe checking on them twice a month, most of them have evaded at least one kidnapping attempt, and, they know 15 different ways to remove blood stains from clothing.

And this robber learned this the hard way.
This demonstrates the power of self-reliance.
People from generation x and back lived an existence where they were thought that their safety was in their hands and no one else.
They didn't wait on the government to keep them safe, they did it themselves and they leaned on the second amendment to do it.

My parents are 81 years old, and are still self sufficient. Mom put a sticker on each door that says, "We don't call 911, we call the county morgue".
My dad had a sign on his door that said--"This door is locked for your protection, not mine"
I have two signs up on my property as well. The one at the bottom of my driveway says, WARNING: Due to a Price Increase of Ammo, Do NOT Expect a Warning Shot!!

My grandmother is 90. I'm 46. She can (and still does), hunt, trap, shoot and garden. She comes from a different breed, time and era. In those days women were known and able to shoot just as good as men. I'm so glad I've learned (and still learning) those same skills directly from her today.

Gen X here raised by baby boomers in the “old fashioned” way. What I want to know is why we didn’t pass this on. We like to talk shit on on Gen z being weak and I agree (not mine). There are some Gen x raising Gen Z, it’s not just Millennials like my younger siblings. Why complain about our creations and handy work. The young narcissistic adults out there were raised by Gen X who are so proud of their upbringing but produced a-holes. WTF?

Im 49, live in upstate NY, was given my first shotgun at 9 from grandpa. In my room on the wall with ammo. Next to my compound bow. I reloaded for 30-06 and knew how to tig weld stainless steel well. Cooked for myself during the day, was allowed to go ANYWHERE by my self. No problems. We never locked our doors. No one would ever dare dream of breaking in. Instant death sentence. At age 12 I was today's 21 yr old at least, more like 33 yr olds. It's sickening how we have become.
And sadly, it's gonna get much worse. One day soon the majority of Americans won't know how to hunt, fish and survive for one night in the wild. H3ll, we're already there. 🤦🏻♂️

Well, that's becuase we prioritized math over teaching kids in school how to work trades when they're prime for learning 15 different trades, all complementary (bricklaying, wiring, locksmithing, plumbing, etc etc) that would give turn the economical independence by the earliest age, instead in school teachers look down upon trade workers who made triple what they made.

My mother in law worked with her brother in the fields at age6. He was 8. They worked from 6 am to 12 noon. Her dad would send them home to start supper, while he and her mother continued working. Her brother started a wood fire in a pot belly stove, while she sorted and rinsed the beans and then proceeded to cook them over the fire. My father in law started hunting at 8, from horseback, to supplement the family meals. His family still farmed using a team of horses until 1952. Both of my in laws knew how to do everything without modern conveniences. They both came from families where traditional life ( and guns) were respected and handed on to the next generation.

My adopted grandmother, who passed at 105 years old, was a crack shot with a shotgun.
She grew up on a tree farm in the hills above Medford Oregon and learned how to shoot, hunt, survive in the wild, build buildings, and her dad taught her how to fix the family car...
She was an amazing woman.

Colton, I'm part of that 85 yr old's generation. We also learned how to sew, bake bread, can food & use chainsaws & run lawn mowers by the age of 12yrs old. We are not wimpy. Loved your quote. I will be 60 this year. I learned to shoot a 22 at 6 and had my first shotgun at 16. Was taught proper safe firearms handling before I was taught to shoot. Babysat for my younger brothers starting at 14. Could cook wash my clothes, iron and hem my clothes by 15. Worked in the family garden, starting around 6, and learned to can and preserve at my mother's side. I can hunt,fish, butcher, grow, and preserve my own food. I have raised three children and help with my four grandchildren. People you do notwant to break into my home or threaten my family.
My stepfather bought.me a .22 at age 12. I miss him.
Im 41 and was taught to shoot at 6 yo as well. My dad taught my best friend at 8 and we still shoot together to this day. 😉
All our sons are gun trained. They’re 31, 20, 17 and 10 years old and have been trained young! People say we’re wrong for it. The weapons aren’t just laying around! We’re responsible gun owners. But we want are boys all smart with guns.

Might as well add my 2 cents. =) I have the first firearm I ever shot at around 4 years old. I remember Dad showing me how to line up the sigts, the feel of the curve of the trigger and the little ridges on it. That was in northern New Jersey. When I was 7 we moved to northern New York State. 4 miles out of town you could get lost in the woods. We didn't. We had a 100yd fireing range behind the house. When I was 14 my youngest sister was born the end of April. When school was out, Mom went to Vermont for vericose vein operation. She was gone two weeks. It was up to me and my next younger sister to take care of that baby. Wash and clothe her, change diapers and clean them out, wash them and hang them on the line, cook supper for 4 other siblings and Dad, make sure Dad had lunch. My sister and I switched off every other day to do this. You know who is going to survive the coming chaos? The people who know how to do stuff like hunt, fish, grow and preserve food.

I am 77, old Marine, dad was born 1923, grew up in depression 1 of 7 kids, 28 months in tank ww2 combat. Grandparents born 1898-1905. Great grandmother born 1881 her dadfought in the union army civil war. I am just like this lady

Damn they were forged of steel then. My Great aunt from Delaware has shared stories of hobos trying to break in while her husband was working on the train yard. She had an old A5 and a model 27. Never told us if she used it though. She was a saint incarnate.

Love this video. I'm 64 yrs old. A gun dealer I knew put it this way "When seconds count, the police are just minutes away." We had a 22 rifle loaded, behind a door. My Mom was single. Did NOT need a baby sitter for me. Praise God!

Your description of people over 42 is right on. I tell people my first day of kindergarten was my mom giving me a key to the house. Pointing to my alarm clock to get up on time, Telling me there was food inthe fridge to make my lunch. Then said I will see you when I get home from work. (I had to walkover a mile to school.) then my mom gets a call from the school because I gave a kid a black eye when we were waiting outside before school started. The kid would not stop crying no matter what I said because he missed his mom.
Lets not also forget that the older generation like that 85yo grandma also lived through world wars, great depressions, multiple pandemics, etc and are tough and resilient simply because they had to be back then. My late father fought in WW2 as a teenager and then only a few years after returning home he had to take on the role of breadwinner for his family after his father suddenly died of a heart attack aged in his early 50's. He worked his ass off in multiple jobs to put a roof over his mother's & his 5 younger siblings' heads until they were all finished school & able to fend for themselves (which is why he married late and only had me when he was 44yo, which was considered very old for the 1960's).
I'm Gen X and took dad's hard-earned life lessons to heart and grew up to be self-sufficient just like him; I learned to hunt, shoot & fish before I was 10yo, could pull an engine & tranny from a vehicle and rebuild a 2-stroke outboard motor by my mid-teens, and moved out of home & got my own apartment at 18 (oh, and I'm a city kid too & not raised in the swamp or something). As my dad said he learnt from his time in the Army: "drop me in the middle of nowhere in a Jeep or Land Rover with a couple of rifles & ammunition and a good set of tools & butchering knives and I'll have everything that I'll ever need to get by".
It's a testament to the mindset of the older generations who grew up with a different sense of independence and resilience. This is a perfect example of why it's crucial for individuals to have the means to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Of course the door wasn't locked.. and my father worked third shift! My mother was home with her four boys!
Ages 13.. 12.. 11.. and 10.. yep they were busy for a while!
Luckily for us.. my father kept his firearms locked up in his bedroom. My mother woke the oldest son.. handed him a shotgun.. and he handed the next in line another shotgun.. and me a baseball bat!
Downstairs we go.. and I'm telling you.. I never seen someone run so fast out the door..

Hearing this story further fueled me to stay in shape mentally and physically. I'm 44, but look young so people often mistake me to be gen Z. What Colion said about having house keys, being outside most of the day, and drinking from water hoses as a child brought back some funny childhood memories. I'm glad I joined the Marine Corps after high school. It kicked me down and taught me some hard life lessons. I wish this 85 years young woman a full recovery, and God bless her.

My Mom was driving a tractor when she was ten. I'm Gen X and I was cooking for myself at five standing on a chair. We left the house in the morning in the summer and would only return for dinner then back out until well after dark. We got to roam the town with our friends and we were always respectful of the businesses we went into and never caused any trouble. We could go in stores and restaurants and get what we needed often by just telling the owner to put it in our parents account. We had so much autonomy. It was a really good time to be a kid.
As an early millenial, I caught the end of that. Parents worked long hours, used to pull a chair up to the stove so I could see the burners to cook on... once almost caught the house on fire trying to melt wax to make a candle for my mother 😂 didnt know you needed a double boiler.
At that age, I was calm enough to get and use a fire extinguisher (and then had to spend hours cleaning the powder up😂)

We grew up in a place where we didn't use the keys for the house and the car keys were always in the ignition. Now some of the homes have bars on the windows and the house doors are always kept locked.
Still remember the time people leave their doors open all day and kids playing outside on their own, but not anymore. House are now like prison.

I lived in a poor neighborhood and we knew to keep everything locked up if we didn't want it to wander off or be destroyed. It really depends on where you grew up.
The lock on our house was a latch on the screen door and it was in place to keep it from banging in the wind.

Your description of us is hauntingly accurate. Every single thing you said is like you read the inside of my mind accessing my memories. I thought it was only a tiny percentage, but more and more i hear like stories and the sorrow for todays youngsters that dont/cant/wont experience those times that we had.
They are not crazy. They just don’t take crap from this generation.

I grew up in the 60's. Raised by an Arny Drill Sergeant. I remember well him telling me as the oldest kid, never mess around with an older guy. They can get down right mean. Of course he raised us to respect our elders and be good people, never mess around with anyone.
If someone comes looking for trouble, then handle it. Make sure they get all the trouble and more they're looking for.
I'm glad this poor old lady was able to save herself and put this bad guy where he was apparently looking to belong. But I'm sure she was left jn a world of hurt and pain. I hope she fully recovers.
Yeah, I pretty much raised myself. No hate on my parents. I was very self-sufficient. I could cook as a 9 year old. I did have the keys to the house at 5. I took myself to church, walked all over the city...by myself. Occasionally, I'd get on the subway and go to NYC. Yeah, was almost kidnapped - kicked their ass. Did my own wash, washed dishes, cleaned. I had a little side job at 9 yo. I swept floors, washed dishes, tended the till for .25 cents per day at the local soda shop. (My parents didn't even know.) Yeah, I can take care of myself back then...and still do.

My husband and i belong to a gun and rifle club. one of the oldest members is a founding member and one of the best if not the best shooter. She's tops in shotgun/pull . Last I remember she was 92 and there for couple hours for practice. She may be 89 lbs soaking wet. She and her deceased husband's collection is passed through her family. She was raised in Texas and her daddy and momma taught her how to shoot and often times she and her siblings had to go hunt for a meal besides the vegetable garden they had. They proved their accuracy often when it came to rattlers. Her youngest son was 7 when he killed his first rattler which was bigger than he was. Her grands are also members of the club.

You just described my upbringing with my brothers. As the older boy, I was cooking my family breakfast when I was 8, we all had housekeys and walked to school since kindergarten. We hiked across pastures and scrub and oak covered mountains, starting at dawn if not earlier, and returned later in the afternoon and on time. Knowing there would be consequences, we were never late. In our teens we took bicycles on 50+ mile rides. Usually, to go fishing or just to look around. I made my own bow from a busted SEARS fishing rod and some leather lacing from a crafts kit, taking 9 carp in on the first three-hour outing. The arrows were made from shaved cedar roofing shingles and pop top metal. My daughters rode bicycles 10 miles with their mom at 6 and 8 years old. The younger one later became an Airborne soldier. My brothers are both retired military and avid outdoorsmen with stable lives and solid values.
She took multiple body shots and toughed it out for 10 hours.

My grandma always had her.22 in her purse. True story, she once made a son in law stay ducked down in a ditch full of fire ants while she fired rounds over his head. She got ultimate respect by everyone.
