The history of the Finns has also been saved by the Germans and Germanic people in general several times. Most of the Finnic peoples were completely wiped out in the middle ages due to the expanding Russia back in the day. Finns and Estonians were spared that fate because Germanic states like the Teutons, Swedes and Danes took the area over first. The original Finnic culture was ofc entirely replaced by the Nordic culture, but that was also probably for the best, because when the Russian Empire finally did manage to get Finland for a while between 1809-1917, the Finns at that point were so indistinguishable from the Germanic states (Russia's mortal enemies) that they just left Finland alone for the most part. They didn't even try to integrate us to their empire until it was falling apart, at which point it was too late. They also easily gave us our independence too, because we were so foreign to them.
