I think the biggest misconception is to try to put him in a category, because he’s created his own. And it’s badass.
Exactly!
this is like prime example of generic country. how american are you if you listen to this and feel you cant put him in the country category? lmfao. its people like you that provide european with constantly fresh ammo to use to make fun of americans with.
It's amazing, but it also kinda sucks tbh. I want more Country like this and I just can not find any. There's a handful of other country artists who are fantastic, but nobody I like as much as Sturgill
This sounds like speeding down a pitch black, country highway in the dead of night, with the windows down and wind blowing in your face on a summer’s night. In other words it’s badass. Also, this kicks corporate, radio-approved, clean, plastic pop country in its non-existent balls.
Best comment I've read in a while.
@@blueridgebackwoods4231 get his stuff on vinyl, $200 turntable and a few speakers that are worthy of playing sturgill, change your fucking life. these you tube videos ar so compressed
@@randomjackson574 sounds interesting. Vinyl? You mean like flooring?....of course vinyl sounds better. I'm thinking most people agree. Be nice if vinyl was more portable
@@randomjackson574used to have an older stereo cabinet like the big floor model from the 70s that thing would shake the house. Like to get some sturgill on vinyl tho that would be sick.
Anyone else turn off their headlights for a few seconds and drive through the black-black? ... if you do it on a bright moon night when the fireflies are out it's prettier than the city IMO
This is an artist peaking and coming to grips with who he is while acknowledging what he can truly accomplish, musically. It’s everything bullshit “bands” like Florida Georgia Line aren’t. It’s bold, genre ripping and easily my summer album of 2016.
It again gives me hope in music...
word
its the same here
FGL isn't qualified to wipe the sweat off of Sturgill Simpson's nuts .
Fuck You. Where's the moonshine lemon cooder song?
+KannabosmHealerOfNations. I 2nd that ,WORD! He even let it ride with a Moog , he's a throwback to tradition country without the limits and boundaries. I like his first album and I'm a true to the bone, 2 turntables and a microphone Hip Hop lover bt 99.9% of all music now is garbage,so I take GOOD MUSIC anyway I can get it.
Finally some original and creative country.
When I recommend it to people, I never call it country. Genre is necessary for general description, but it seems like a marketing tool to me. This album has a lot going for it and to define it by a genre is to limit the art. It gives me hope that so many people that love different types of music are in to him. Sturgill and Shooter Jennings are redefining what it means to be a "country" artist.
+Freddy Caple check out Cody Jinks dude, he's in the same boat as Sturgill if not better.
Def checkout Cody Jinks, he's damn good too!
Just checked out Cody Jinks, and he is pretty damn good!
"Remember that the "Country" in Country Music is America." President Carter.
Lyrics:
One day you wake up
And this life will be over
Every party must break up
For burdens to shoulder
We're dying to live
Living to die
No matter what you believe
And all of us cry
For the ones we must leave
So go and live a little
It all turns brittle
The skin withers before your eyes
Make sure you give a little
Before you go to the great unknown in the sky
Some will beg for forgiveness
From someone above
For something they did
Someone they love
Some scream like a baby
Some go out crying
Some bid the world goodbye
And welcome to die
Oh I can live a little
It all turns brittle
The skin withers before your eyes
Make sure you give a little
Before you go to the great unknown in the sky
bones turn brittle
Bones turn brittle...
Thanks much!
If these lyrics dont confirm the hitman hypothesis....well then just go read the lyrics to nearly all of sound and fury....this good ol boy got dirt under his nails for sure!
Awesome !!! Hope to see you in real one day sturgill simpson
I lost my sister this week. This song means so much right now. I miss her so much already. Love you sis. I will live a little before I see you again. You were my best friend.
❤️
Hey im sorry to hear you lost your sister. God bless
I know its two years gone but I hope you're doin ok
So much Truth, Friend
Yes it has been 3 years… time means nothing as I read it for the 1st time. I’m sorry man 😢
That's why I'm proud to be from Kentucky. where Sturgill Simpsons still the king.
I always thought Bill Monroe was from Kentucky...
He was. I just love the song bob wills is still the king. So i changed the line.
Thanks for Sturgill, Kentucky!
You and me both, brother 💪
I lived between Elizabethtown and Bardstown for 5 years, saw Shooter Jennings and Willie play live, but had never heard of Sturgil until about a month ago
Sturgill is one of those artists, that goes tremendously under appreciated until theyre gone. Then people will say, wow what a visionary,,
HERB
Love you comment and your handle
Like Townes van Zandt
When an artist wins a Grammy for best album of the year, you can't say they're under appreciated.
just like Keith whitley
He's the Beck of Country music. Bending genres and creating new ones while sounding completely unique. Love this guy.
Okay guys so I don't know much about country because I don't listen to the genre, but I just discovered Sturgill today and I'm fucking loving it. I just listened to his new album after I found out its up for album of the year. I'm mind blown! it's been a long time since a modern album has made me feel all kinds of emotions. this very good stuff, if this is country, then I'm fucking IN!
Same. The only modern country artists I'm listening to is Sturgill and Kacey Musgraves. Great musicians, both of them.
Traditional country my friends, not pop country!
This is the traditional type country the older generation listened to...welcome😉
Look up tyler childers. Wont be disappointed. Sturgill produced his last album
Listen to Tyler Childers as well!
This is Hard Country, son. Not g*yboy, tshirt, ripped jeans sh^t on some jacked pickup truck blasting out of 3100.00 sound system. Good luck finding this on the radio, though. Meanwhile, thisis sometimes on the radio ua-cam.com/video/6YmFv3yrpO0/v-deo.html/
Sturgill speaks to me. He's a real artist. I'd like it again if I could.
I'll do it for you.
A well needed divorce in country from Budweiser and tailgates.
Keep it up, Sturgill Simpson.
Sturgill himself said he would never make anything other than a country record. Go check out his "In Bloom" cover. If you're not a country fan you'll be disappointed.
+Tyler Phillips he's saying its a well needed divorce from country music that just goes on about beer women and tailgates.
+707king I disagree I think it's about the people that showed to just be apart of the scene and not the art itself. Sturgill blew up and with that came the leaches.
707king
What he said.
I discovered Sturgill awhile ago. And every song of his is a well-needed divorce from what has become modern country. The genre lost its roots when every blue-jean wearing guy with a half-beard thinks he can be the Kanye West of Americana.
+Aaron MK I apologize I thought this was the in bloom video. Brace for impact is pretty straight forward if you ask me but that's the great thing about art, it's objective. Country music doesn't need saving. Yes there is pop but what genre doesn't have the bullshit that floats on top. Sturgill Simpson wasn't the first guy to bring psychedelic, sonically diverse music to country. You just won't find those guys on the radio.
I just discovered this awesome man and his music.....I cannot get this song out of my head......I did not think I could like anyone as much as Joe Bonamassa but I have....
So sad we're not playin this dude on Country radio.... but the 'powers that be' dont like to be slapped in the face...keep rockin Sturgill.
He's going to make his music how he wants whether it's radio friendly or not. A very honest artist.
Labels are for soup cans, this is just damn good music....period.
🤘
I grew up in an era when radio would play mixed genres. I don’t believe in letting labels limit good music either. My play list on random is liable to go from patsy cline to AC/DC and then to prince.
Well said
I put this song on repeat & it doesn't get old 👍🏼
we love ya sturgill show them what real country's all about
This is a solid rock song. I think this would be well received on most rock stations. Well done. I'm glad American Songwriter turned me on to this musician.

All the new "so called" country music sounds like southern rock now. It sux in my opinion. I quit listening to country when King George retired...THATS GEORGE STRAIT FOR YOU KIDS !
@@kellymiller3105...How about George.....as in George Jones ?
Totally melts the lines of country / southern rock / blues
@@greatbyrondo the possum's the true king, man
Sturgill is a combination of 80's country and early-mid 90's rock. Even his videos have a 90's feel to them with the imagery and dark contrast.
I've blown up 2 systems listening to this ! And so many more of your music !
I can't get enough!!!!
Years on, and I'm here for it. I hope you all appreciate watching the great underrated genius of our time, unheralded and evolving. This is our Mozart.
So many want him to be one of the saviors to country music. He already is. He's had two great albums already, now he's doing something a little different. Maybe even progressive. I can't even really tell what this is Really, I wanna say psychedelic country. And Sturg is the king. Some will love it, some won't. But there's no denying that this guy knows what he's doing. I feel like this video itself shows how much he is influenced by Tool. He has said before that it is one of his favorite bands, and I'm not surprised you can hear it in this song and his video. If the only genre you listen to is outlaw country/independent really whatever you want to call it, you really need to branch out a little bit. Good music doesn't stop at the Waylon Jennings sound and others. I really think Sturgill has developed his own sound instead of the typical traditional country, not that it is a bad thing. He wants to make his mark and be unmistakable.
Well said
Tyler Price I also thought of Tool when I viewed this. Like Tool, a lot of people don't understand him. That's ok by me.
This is incredible...a beautiful, well-crafted and thought provoking video to go along with an amazing song. Sturgill is an incredible artist.....can't wait to hear the new album.
Ryan Carey
Gosh.. All I could come up with was 2 emojis & 3 letters .. ( smile)
You are so right.
This man definitely has passion for what he plays. This is what belongs on country radio.
Not one song that hasnt had me at Sturgill. 🤘💜❤
Are you freaking kidding me? They play this guy on a local radio show I listen to that plays ppl you never herd of. They don't play country music at all. I stopped listening to country because they play the same shit everyday all day. I herd this song and blasted my truck radio. Huge fan and please keep the awesome work. Freaking LOVE IT!!!!!!!
OH HELL YES!!!! Real music, real soul. Nuclear. Love you Sturgill Simpson. Take that, corporate music industry.
The ambiance, the sound the feel and the visuals are perfectly matched with what this song is screaming. Sturgill and the crew nail it again.
Further more this song is saying stop your daily routine and live, give and love a little(a lot). Old ass man is fucking up tombstones! Some of us are so consumed in our lives that we hope and pray to the invisible man upstairs that we forget to live, we tip toe and assume if we stay quiet, trouble will not find us.
Say sorry once or a million times you may not have truly lived in any said moment.

Congrats on the Grammy nomination man, even if those awards are bullshit. I hope you win the award and finally get the platform you need to show the world what great music truly sounds like.
if it's loud...you'll hear it. if it's marketed good....they buy it. But if it's REAL you feel it!! Thanks to the OUTLAW SPIRITS OF YESTERDAY for sending us this guy.... I'm a fan for life..
Me too
his music videos are wild. i love the style
I braced for impact on January 10, 2020 after I learned that my dearest wife passed while I was in the Air Force training. That Sunday morning I woke up to find our world was over. Death would come upon me to protect you knowing that you live, now I must live to protect the memories of you upon your death. This is such a great piece. Keep writing, your new album is fantastic.
this band sounds so good. drummer is sooooo good and that bass, DAMN. THEY ARE IN SYNC.
Such a badass song
A excellent song from an xcellant album..congrads for the nomination and I am hanging in there to see what the future brings us from Sturgill Simpson.
Yet another Sturgill masterpiece,He is the best thing that has come along in music in a long long time.Seen him live and dollar for dollar the best show out there!Keep rockin Sturgill, you are awesome.
No matter what type of music you typically enjoy . . this song jams . . I'm typically not into country but this song/video is awesome!
I hear a heavy Pink Floyd influence when I hear this song. I absolutely love it!
I hear Lennon. Weird
Psychodelic country, brought to you by Sturgill Simpson and nobody else
@@ibelieveyourlies1984 My thoughts as well....I could close my eyes and believe the music was early Pink Floyd. I also feel a Springsteen vibe about him. The only thing that is country about him is his voice. Great American artist writing and playing great American music.
Kind of a “Learning to Fly” feel. I get it
Definitely some Floyd
Preach brother Sturgill!
Good lord… It sure is nice to be able to listen to a full album in its entirety and actually enjoy the whole ride… kudos to you Sturgill 🤟🙏✊
I just cannot imagine who those thumbs down people would consider as a good singer......Sturgill is freaking awesome
Way to go!!!!!!!!! We always knew, now the rest of the country will, too
I fuckin love this song
You are a genius
Mighty Gemstones episodes with you in them were bad ass! You’re on my bucket list. 😉✌️
Correction Righteous Gemstones! 😂 so be it. Love you all!
i knowbest🤙
its my purpose 💫
Sturgill Simpson is redeeming country music, damned near singlehandedly. Saw him at Eaux Claires last year. True story: I'm a Democrat, my girlfriend is a Republican. She's from a dairy farm, I'm from the nearest airport. She loves country, I can't stand most of what's called country music these days, all these all-hat and no-horse poseurs. But I introduced her to Sturgill Simpson and we appreciate him together. There's really no comparing him to anybody. To quote Oh Brother Where Art Thou: "He's gen-u-wine."
P.S. Buy the damned album, okay, folks?
A much deserved nomination! Been on my radar since Vinyl came out, safe to say he's my proudest discovery of the year.
love this
damn this is good
I wish they show the whole band in the video. They are ALL amazing musicians not just Sturgill
Powerful Sturgill Simpson
This guy is incredible. Instant fan.
Don't really know why but everytime I'm feeling blue if I listen to Sturgill any of it makes me feel so much better I just love him love his music Love lyrics it just makes me happy
Sturgill continues to impress. Truly an amazing musical talent. Wonderful job yet again!
We are the paradigm shift and I am grateful Sturgill is an enlightened country boy, playing anthems we can sing💗here’s to braking molds and shattering stereotypes!!! Cheers 💗💗💗
This a GREAT song ! People that cannot see it are TOO young to appreciate it. I am 65 yrs old and I love it. Good music IS good music. People that are hung up on an artist are just that....hung up !!!!!! Sturgill is talented and innovative. Grow up people.
Fantastic! Sturgill has evolved. His talent mixed with video/technological production.....ingenuity, and depth. Kudos!
instantly my favorite song

Thank you for not doing the POP Country thing. This is much better. someones gotta break the mold!
This guy has some best music i have ever heard
Sturgill Simpson the baddest Outlaw country singer today!!
The direction on this video managed to match the tone of this song. Sooooooo good.
Masterpiece
AINT NOBODY FUCKING WITH THIS MAN, POINT BLANK PERIOD....
An amazing musician, song writer and story teller..... This is MUSIC at its best hands down!!!
can't... Stop... replaying...
My husband was listening to Sturgill long before he got his "break."
Now he's got me hooked on him. I'm glad, too. The originality is refreshing. The creativity is awesome. New favorite of mine.
Wow. I could listen to this kind of “country “. 🙌🏽
Alternate country...a break from the POPerflucies. 😎
I am a ol boy from the sticks where music is a everyday way of living for me when my cousin turned me onto sturgill I have been hooked ever since this song is in a class of its own badness of assness lol
Had people tell me about this guy. I've listened to a lot of different country artists but had yet to listen to him. Don't know why I didn't sooner but glad I did.
Another breakthrough by Strurgill. He has that grand perspective that all the great artists have displayed. Sturgill Simpson panders to no demographic and expresses the deepest fathoms of his being. He's a true artist.
Hey Sturgill can you consider a Canadian visit? Would pay top dollar to see you perform in Vancouver, think you'd rock it.
Pocas veces te encuentras artistas que aportan TODO, excelente artista, en años lo mejor que he escuchado y visto.
Love this. The beat the poetry ...beautiful
I like the way you talk and I love this song too ✌️

Finally great country music!! I can truly feel the pain...... keep them coming
Wonderful. Perfect way to welcome the spring and say goodbye to the cold dark winter.
Nice video by the way. It really clothes the sound.
I'm so tired of most modern shite out there- this is a breath of fresh air in a very stagnant pond. Glad I found this in dec 2019.
The pain this guy portrays is amazing. Refreshing to have someone blow the doors open on mainstream country for the first time in a while
I am totally stiff now. Sturgill is too fucking cool. See you in Dallas!
+Zack Rickman See ya there! Just got my tix!
+Zack Rickman I'll be there too. Can't wait!
Yeah I was bummed tickets were sold out!
I can't wait to see him in concert!!
Keep all that noise coming, and making good music brother. Good shit right there.

Thank you Mr and Mrs. Simpson for Sturgill!!!
So happy to find out about the Grammy nomination . . you so deserve it!!!!
STURGILL has so many great songs.
Total Badass !! Nothing like him or his music!!! 🎶 🎵
Please come to Canada next tour!
The assassin is back again
Takin motherfuckers out
And to think I abandoned country music, thanks for the welcome back.
Never heard music that had such an amazing sound like this album does.
Just got back from Nashville. All I heard on Broadway street was pop country (top 40s). I then went to the country music HOF and same sad story, Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean stuff everywhere. Sturgill nowhere to be found or heard. What a crying shame. Thank God for Sturgill sticking to the roots of country music and giving us something still original that we love to hear.
country music I can actually hear without my ears bleeding. thanks wtf pod
A musical simplicity of country groove and vibe at its best.
Sturgill, a true original. Can't wait to have the new album spinning on my turntable.
My thoughts during the intro: "Yeah, okay, this is a cool song. Nice groove and OHMYGOSH IS THAT SYNTH? THAT'S SYNTH! I LOVE IT!!!" Seriously. Awesome.
This is GOOD country....more of this please
This guy kicks it his voice & guitar continue traditions & begin new ones. Follow this one he's going places...
This song and the album is the SHIT!!! Finally Music from this century that I can listen too.
