As a Meitei from Manipur myself,I thank your well-researched information and I am sure the rest of the world knows the actual complexity of our state and the rest of the northeastern regions of India. We have been a tool for the Indian government or the British government for many years in exchange for administration. I hope the world understands our unfortunate turn of events that had happened in my state and collectively help us to bring peace instead of listening to one side of a story and spreading inaccurate and false propaganda. The communal riot is never about religious differences. It’s about the many misunderstandings that piled up and led to this unfortunate incident. Manipur as a state has LIMITED resources. And I, as a Manipuri would like to state that I do want the government to take up appropriate actions according to Indian law and order on humane grounds against the immigrants. And I don’t think the Manipur government would target only one community to exploit. One cannot take up all the decisions of the state as per their whim. Our chief minister is a Meitei and both the DGP of the state in administration are KUKIs. It is a collective decision. So let’s not break our heads here trying to blame each other. Both are at fault for burning the houses of the innocent who has to flee their homes and fear for their lives and their children. Imagine the traumas they might have been having as a child. And many might tell otherwise but many of us do not hate each other. There are incidents of KUKI protecting the MEITEI neighbours from their own people and in turn, MEITEI protecting the Kukis from invading their homes by disguising them as a MEITEI. Humanity still exists among both groups. In such cases, it is the lives of many innocent civilians from both sides that has to sacrifice. So if a KUKI, NAGA or A MEITEI or A MEITEI PANGAL is reading this comment, I wholeheartedly hope that we collectively bring peace for the sake of our friends- those friends from all the communities whom we played, laughed and shared our memories together once. I have many such friends and I cannot imagine them being harmed or hurt by my own people. Let’s set an example for peace to the rest of those fighting for power because this is the only way Manipur can be developed. Let’s spread peace and love only. ✌🏻LIVE AND LET LIVE. 🕊

I am Kuki tribe from Manipur and I really appreciate your hard work. I would like to add one small point, while narrating the history of Manipur, you forgot one of the most remarkable incidence, ANGLO-KUKI WAR in 1917-1919. My forefathers had fought the British in protection of our Ancestral land and now majority meitei community including the present CM continue to insult us by calling illegal immigrants in our own ancestral land, which is one of the root cause of the Conflicts. Mutual respects can bring preaceful co-existence🙏🙏🙏

Indigenous people of Mizo Zo Naga Kuki native hills tribes were relative and living together thousands years on theirs own ancestors hills lands of Manipur Mizoram Nagaland and NE states before British colony and before India exist 1947 . In facts, native Kuki tribal are natural citizens of Manipur India. Therefore nobody cannot remove and eviction to Indigenous Kuki hills tribal from theirs own ancestors hills lands of Forests.

The situation in Manipur was like a ticking time bomb that finally exploded. Too many issues that were unaddressed or unresolved for years led to a growing indifference and mistrust among the communities which ultimately resulted in witnessing rage on the streets. There are so many issues in the northeast that needs deep analysis by setting up various committees and meetings between representatives to understand the complexity of facts and history in that region for the behalf of the northeast. Because there are loopholes in the acts and articles of constitution meant for northeast which are rather being exploited at the moment and needs to be amended or revised. The irony of high immigration in northeast states even those states that have Inner Line Permit needs to be strictly looked into by state and central govt. The illegal immigration from borders of Bangladesh and Mynmar to these states has become a suffocating situation. Insurgency is an aditional issue on economy and drug trafficking and so is high corruption due to dependency on govt sectors for money. But rest assure that northeast is developing and will contribute to the welfare of its people and country, we just need intellectual govt intervention and logical rules in this climax of change that is upon us. This was one of the best explanations I have so far seen on Manipur history and violence.. What is happening in Manipur is not at all acceptable. I am from Bagladesh and I know the tribal fights that happen here as well. Kuki community is here as well but we have 100+ more tribes and all of them want their independent reign. Even being the citizen by birth, we can't enter in many reigns in our tribal areas. Keep it up!! ❤

Let's talk about land now, you guys wanna settle down in the valley which is only 10% of the state's land where the majority of the ethnic group live but you don't want the meiteis to live in your land. It starts from here, it's actually surprising the meiteis still have place to live and they have somehow never really been against you being here in the valley until the tribals pick a fight with them (this is the second time this big communal riot has happened). The reason they have more seats in legislative assembly is because they are the majority, it can't be help while if you want more seats for tribals then you guys could appeal with it, the meitei probably won't care enough to even go rally to show opposition, it's all fine as long as it brings peace.

Most of them don't. I've seen so many mainland news channels and mainland people saying that this is about religion. Hindu Meitei vs Christian Kuki. The concept of tribes is too complicated, it flies over their heads. They only understand religion.

And even amongst Christian Naga and Christian Kuki there is violence. Ethnicity and tribalism is the no. 1 factor for discrimination in NE. In Assam, the Assamese and Bodo people who are majority Hindus don't like the Bengali migrants who are Hindus who fled away from Bangladesh. Same in Tripura also, Tripuri and Bengalis there is tensions despite being majority same religion, Hinduism. Only few cases of clashes are due to religion

THANK YOU SO MUCH. All the peoole who bring conflict down to Hindus vs Christian completely miss out on the fact that many tribal groups, who are Christian, fight each other (e.g. the Kuki vs Naga conflict highlighted in this video). Even among the Christian tribal groups, there are many different insurgent groups because the sole reason of this division is tribal division, not religious ones.

I remember I watched this video right after you posted this and I was actually very upset since I couldn't get what could be the solution for this and I said to myself that if BJP could find a solution then it can prove its competence. Unfortunately, now after that viral video, I am still wondering what could be a solution to this problem and I am very disappointed as well with the way BJP reacted to this entire fiasco. In India, we are so diverse and these kinds of problems are very tough to solve hopefully the central government finds a solution to this asap. Tbh, even though I am disappointed in BJP, I couldn't see a bright future for India with Congress. We really need some strong opposition political parties with a spine.

The violence in Manipur is once again a reminder that Quota system will cause a large scale civil war in upcoming years in India. The sooner we abolish this quota system the better. BJP and Congress are two sides of same coin. Both parties are evil. But one thing is more than clear that Quota/reservation is the seed of civil war in India. The ugliest Civil War world has ever seen. What you are seeing in Manipur just multiply that by 100 all over India in next decade. That's what will happen because of Quota system. Mohank bhai, we called kukis as Refugees to only those kukis which are immigrants from Myanmar and Mizoram. We recognized Manipuri kukis as indigenous and part of Manipur state.. The main problem is there are influx of lakhs of Kukis from other areas mainly from Mynmar.This results a great pressure to our society and those immigrants and Refugees are doing many illegal activities there like drug and poppy plantation...

The direct responsibility for controlling the violence falls on the home ministry and the CM of the state. Both BJP. It wont be surprising if Biren singh would be kicked out as CM of the state soon. As a Meitei from Manipur myself,I thank your well-researched information and I am sure the rest of the world knows the actual complexity of our state and the rest of the northeastern regions of India.
We have been a tool for the Indian government or the British government for many years in exchange for administration.
I hope the world understands our unfortunate turn of events that had happened in my state and collectively help us to bring peace instead of listening to one side of a story and spreading inaccurate and false propaganda.
The communal riot is never about religious differences. It’s about the many misunderstandings that piled up and led to this unfortunate incident. Manipur as a state has LIMITED resources. And I, as a Manipuri would like to state that I do want the government to take up appropriate actions according to Indian law and order on humane grounds against the immigrants. And I don’t think the Manipur government would target only one community to exploit. One cannot take up all the decisions of the state as per their whim. Our chief minister is a Meitei and both the DGP of the state in administration are KUKIs. It is a collective decision. So let’s not break our heads here trying to blame each other. Both are at fault for burning the houses of the innocent who has to flee their homes and fear for their lives and their children. Imagine the traumas they might have been having as a child.
And many might tell otherwise but many of us do not hate each other. There are incidents of KUKI protecting the MEITEI neighbours from their own people and in turn, MEITEI protecting the Kukis from invading their homes by disguising them as a MEITEI. Humanity still exists among both groups.
In such cases, it is the lives of many innocent civilians from both sides that has to sacrifice.
So if a KUKI, NAGA or A MEITEI or A MEITEI PANGAL is reading this comment, I wholeheartedly hope that we collectively bring peace for the sake of our friends- those friends from all the communities whom we played, laughed and shared our memories together once.
I have many such friends and I cannot imagine them being harmed or hurt by my own people.
Let’s set an example for peace to the rest of those fighting for power because this is the only way Manipur can be developed.

I am Kuki tribe from Manipur and I really appreciate your hard work. I would like to add one small point, while narrating the history of Manipur, you forgot one of the most remarkable incidence, ANGLO-KUKI WAR in 1917-1919. My forefathers had fought the British in protection of our Ancestral land and now majority meitei community including the present CM continue to insult us by calling illegal immigrants in our own ancestral land, which is one of the root cause of the Conflicts. Mutual respects can bring preaceful co-existence🙏🙏🙏

The situation in Manipur was like a ticking time bomb that finally exploded. Too many issues that were unaddressed or unresolved for years led to a growing indifference and mistrust among the communities which ultimately resulted in witnessing rage on the streets.
There are so many issues in the northeast that needs deep analysis by setting up various committees and meetings between representatives to understand the complexity of facts and history in that region for the behalf of the northeast. Because there are loopholes in the acts and articles of constitution meant for northeast which are rather being exploited at the moment and needs to be amended or revised.
The irony of high immigration in northeast states even those states that have Inner Line Permit needs to be strictly looked into by state and central govt. The illegal immigration from borders of Bangladesh and Mynmar to these states has become a suffocating situation. Insurgency is an aditional issue on economy and drug trafficking and so is high corruption due to dependency on govt sectors for money.
But rest assure that northeast is developing and will contribute to the welfare of its people and country, we just need intellectual govt intervention and logical rules in this climax of change that is upon us.

This was one of the best explanations I have so far seen on Manipur history and violence.. What is happening in Manipur is not at all acceptable. I am from Bagladesh and I know the tribal fights that happen here as well. Kuki community is here as well but we have 100+ more tribes and all of them want their independent reign. Let's talk about land now, you guys wanna settle down in the valley which is only 10% of the state's land where the majority of the ethnic group live but you don't want the meiteis to live in your land. It starts from here, it's actually surprising the meiteis still have place to live and they have somehow never really been against you being here in the valley until the tribals pick a fight with them (this is the second time this big communal riot has happened). The reason they have more seats in legislative assembly is because they are the majority, it can't be help while if you want more seats for tribals then you guys could appeal with it, the meitei probably won't care enough to even go rally to show opposition, it's all fine as long as it brings peace.

While these are important, Manipur should be important too. @@jaydev8148 I'm also from Northeast and I also know a lot of Manipuris, Naga and Kuki from Manipur. The fact is even Christian Manipuri don't like the hill tribals. And even amongst Christian Naga and Christian Kuki there is violence. Ethnicity and tribalism is the no. 1 factor for discrimination in NE. In Assam, the Assamese and Bodo people who are majority Hindus don't like the Bengali migrants who are Hindus who fled away from Bangladesh. Same in Tripura also, Tripuri and Bengalis there is tensions despite being majority same religion, Hinduism. Only few cases of clashes are due to religion

THANK YOU SO MUCH. All the peoole who bring conflict down to Hindus vs Christian completely miss out on the fact that many tribal groups, who are Christian, fight each other (e.g. the Kuki vs Naga conflict highlighted in this video).
Even among the Christian tribal groups, there are many different insurgent groups because the sole reason of this division is tribal division, not religious ones.

I remember I watched this video right after you posted this and I was actually very upset since I couldn't get what could be the solution for this and I said to myself that if BJP could find a solution then it can prove its competence. Unfortunately, now after that viral video, I am still wondering what could be a solution to this problem and I am very disappointed as well with the way BJP reacted to this entire fiasco. In India, we are so diverse and these kinds of problems are very tough to solve hopefully the central government finds a solution to this asap. Tbh, even though I am disappointed in BJP, I couldn't see a bright future for India with Congress. We really need some strong opposition political parties with a spine.

Lots of north Indians live here. Most people of North India don't know much about manipur.

Mohank bhai, we called kukis as Refugees to only those kukis which are immigrants from Myanmar and Mizoram. We recognized Manipuri kukis as indigenous and part of Manipur state.. The main problem is there are influx of lakhs of Kukis from other areas mainly from Mynmar.This results a great pressure to our society and those immigrants and Refugees are doing many illegal activities there like drug and poppy plantation...

The direct responsibility for controlling the violence falls on the home ministry and the CM of the state. Both BJP. It wont be surprising if Biren singh would be kicked out as CM of the state soon. The uproar from the whole of India has the potential to dent the political image of BJP, especially now when 2024 election is nearing. It would have to do something dramatic to win back the public. The incident forced the PM to speak, which means they are in panic mode big time.

Our country is unique in its diversity in religion, culture , ethnicity , food , language and a history of violence perpetrated against each other or through external influences.
Even countries without such major differences between the people , we can see violence between the communities and sometimes I think it’s in our nature .
The only way forward for us is through dialogue, diplomacy and inclusivity . Manipur is an example of what can happen when complex problems and insufficient solutions are offered to help defuse and build trust among our varied communities. One can only hope 🙏🙏
