Brilliant scientis Patricia Taniis theorizes that the Borderlands’ psychos are so uniformly deranged due to knowledge of a strange place she calls “Vaulthalla.” Seeing as your ally psycho Krieg typically communicates via screams of threatening nonsense, you’ll need to seek out the true nature of Vaulthalla directly within his mind.
Krieg’s imagination is a dangerous place, filled with memories of slain enemies and the manifestations of deeply repressed demons. You’ll have to team up with both of Krieg’s opposing personas - a raging murder machine and a calm inner voice - to make it out alive.

Gonna be honest, after watching this, it really only made me more mad about how they handled the main story with Ava and Maya.
Yep I'm with you there. It just felt.... really off?? Just the way the vanilla story was made and to have this to try and tie back with it. I feel disgusted. There just wasn't enough or any at all build up to have an emotional impact with Maya. I'm sorry it's just not the same. BUT the story here about krieg's past and what made him who he is. Is pretty dope. :D
Pretty much all of the DLC campaigns were better written than the main game, with their weakest elements being pretty much everything that reminds you of what happened during the main game.
Very much the same kinda seemed out of character for Ava not to be some sorta focus of his anger at least a little like maybe the conductor of the train or something
It feels like they reused assault on dragon keep with a different coat of paint.
I am seriously not trying to be a troll here, but honestly, I have no strong feelings about Ava one way or the other
this officially makes Krieg one of the most tragic characters in Borderlands...along with Angel

Yeah as long as you remember her she isn't really gone
So... she may not be gone, in the games, other sirens like nyriad and angel have imbued their memories into objects (see "childhoods end", and the nyriad stones you find in-game) in one of the echo logs you find in the game, she admits to charging the echo log with her memories (they explain it better in the game) she exists in his head, she recognized you, she may not remember dying as she did this right before the rampager fight, but she does remember Krieg and you. (this is just a theory)
This DLC is quite amazing as story goes. I don't know about the community as a whole, but Krieg is one of my favorite characters in any video game that I've played. Not only he is insane and playing with him is really maddening and fun, but he's also just a dude that's trying to live. That's it! He's just tying to live his life. He suffered losses. He gained friends. He lost people he loved. He stood up again. Just like everyone in this planet I guess
I have never played any of the Borderlands games, but I keep finding myself drawn to videos involving Krieg, and various parts of his story. And I absolutely love him and Maya, the effect she has on Krieg. I actually started to tear up at some of the more tender Krieg and Maya moments in this video - the fact that she is the *one thing* that even Psycho-Krieg holds onto so dearly, the one thing he clearly loves above all else.
The simple fact that someone who talks like Krieg simply refers to her as "Pretty Lady" is a powerful statement, when just about everything else out of his mouth is foul, violent, or just deranged, and the fact that other characters like Lillith are identified as "Scary Fire Lady". But Maya? No. No blood, death, violence, or scariness about her. To the man with the Shiniest Meat Bicycle... she is the Pretty Lady.
People don't seem to understand that this isn't meant as a reveal or anything gigantic
It's a character study of the legendary psycho himself and how his mind sees things..

If anything, this DLC makes Ava even more hated, since Kreig had to go through all this.
Man, why did Maya have to die? Also I'm glad Kreig got more screentime, he's my favorite character.

They killed Maya for a pathetic but simple reason, in Borderlands 2 they killed Roland and it was shocking enough that fans talked about it for years, they wanted to recapture that but what they failed to do was make a good replacement for Maya whereas Roland was replaced by Lillith and failed to create villains we'd love to hate as when handsome Jack did it you couldn't fully hate him because of his smooth charisma but the twins are just irritating brats.
Basically it was a story cop-out hoping to build shock and callback and instead caused fan ire
i wonder if kreig sees brick as a genius because bricks simple and straightforward way of talking with lots of similes and metaphors, a lot like how a psycho would talk, and thus he seems more intelligent

Oh well, the ending was way more emotional for me than I'd like... What for is Krieg being happy in his mind, when it is just an illusion... For the whole span of the DLC I hoped that Maya's soul would be trapped or protected in the Krieg's mind, and we could save her and perhaps create a new body for her, but it all failed... Maya, perhaps not the best of characters, but she really got the worst of ends.
Remember, it's as Maya said:
Not even Death and Time can keep them apart. Nothing simply ends when the veil is lifted and our soul and body part ways. And for as painful as it was for those who loved her to lose her, at the very least there is comfort in knowing that there *is* something after this. And, perhaps, Krieg and Maya really can live that happily ever after together, after all. Once he has been freed from the mortal coil.

I gave up on the series after 3, but damn this DLC reminds me of why I loved it, it's so nice getting a resolution for my favourite character, Krieg deserved it more than anyone

Ava's a monster. If the game had been written ten years earlier, she would be the villain; her egotism would lead her down a dark path, and the moment she had power, she would be revealed as the true obstacle for the hero. Because that's the only way such a character works - either youthful ego gets beaten down in a moment of humiliating revelation that allows a hero to overcome their own limitations... or it doesn't, and they become the bad guy.
The DLC just proves that Krieg is the best part of Borderlands 2. And it's making me feel nostalgic. And sad.

I’m glad that even in the end when his past was gone and maya still being gone, he was able to make peace with himself and be happy in his own mind, reliving his best memories

I think it says a lot about the base game Borderland 3 narrative that I wish the story had been episodic character focused questlines like this as opposed to what we got

Best. Character ark. In this game. The ending is so fucking heartfelt and amazing.
It's not a bad DLC, but I feel like as the last official one of this Season Pass, this means this probably will stop here, as far as developing more story based DLC for the game. To be honest, I feel this was kind of mediocre. It had its cool moments, but at the same time, it felt very short and left so many avenues untouched. We never saw/heard from so many of the other Vault Hunters, like Salvador or Axton, and with this being the last official DLC, it feels rather disappointing that they completely dropped the Eridian Messenger you meet at the end of Pre-Sequel. That character was utterly dropped from the story altogether, even though it felt like it was what was going to link the second and third games together to be a much bigger story/threat than the Calypso Streamers.
This dlc was good for me but a do agree with what you’ve said, in the second game nearly every character we knew had an emotional reaction to Rolands death, in the whole of borderlands 3 you only hear it from Tannis, the ever annoying Eva (I hate her with a passion). Hell the only ones who were really emotional about her death and even directly mentioned it is Krieg, one of the best things about this dlc is Krieg himself, the story felt so rushed though, I don’t know if the guys that did the story for the second game were the same that did it for 3 but they sure as hell did a horrible job with this one.

I was really hoping that they'll be a DLC about Fiona. In of the echos, Rhys asked Zer0 of her whereabouts and his response was there's no sign of her and told him no one vanishes on sight. I thought their hinting that will be the next DLC like how they how hinted Krieg DLC by his echos but unfortunately, it never came to be
Not as interesting as the Capt. Scarlett’s Pirate Booty, and not even remotely comparable to the genius of the Tiny Tina’s fantasy DLC
Yeah, and they didn't really explore anything 'new' tbh, we all kinda learned all of this about Kreig in Borderlands 2 via audio logs/etc already. Pity.

Borderlands was never meant to be a lore heavy game, it was mostly gags and just, but the lore gave it a nice atmosphere
The third game kept the formula of just crude humor without realizing that people now where invested enough in the lore

1:00:32 what exactly was Krieg's past? Just assuming things, but the cutscene depicts 3 individuals: a bald man, a woman with spikey hair, and small child. Is it possible that Krieg is actually Tiny Tina's Dad? In Borderlands 2, Tina mentions that her parents were experimented on by Hyperion and the woman on left with spikey hair kinda resembles the current hairstyle of Tina BL3. Thoughts?
During the lab experiments you can hear Dr. (whatever) say something along the lines of "he wants to see his boy again" but then again it is left up to interpretation

I have serious depression, the kind that is resistant to treatment, that makes it so i get out maybe 5 times a month if i have appointments or for bills, and all though i wasn't literally tortured, it feels like if i didnt fight every day, i could turn into that gibbering mess that is krieg. That the part of me thats well, me would get swallowed up not by a rage monster crying about meat bicycles, but but just a void of pure sadness and nihilism. That id just stop talking and never start again and thats the biggest fear. That the sheer weight of pain would rob me of my logic and faculties .
But perhaps its better to just embrace the poop train, at least then i might get to toot the horn and steer where i go huh.
Why worry about living life the way your depression forces you to? Live your own life on the internet, become strong in your own way and consume lots of different media to open your mind to everthing and all personality types. I went from severe crippling heart throbbing anxiety, crying in the middle of class upon being asked "whats this answer Tyler?" All as a child. To a jack of all trades game wise and fully secure about who i am and what i can do. Entirely by living my own life on the internet and indirectly destroying all trace of my once crippling anxiety that destroyed everything about my daily life. Granted, Crippling anxiety and severe depression are two different psychological and medical monsters. But if starting living a brand new life and throwing away my old one fixed me 9 years ago. Then it can for anyone else.

Dammit now I'm crying and even more pissed off that they killed off Maya, and even angrier at the reminder that Ava exists.
Krieg and Maya remain my two favorite characters to play as in Borderlands 2, and while I know happy endings don't happen in Borderlands (it's like Dark Souls in that regard, in that no one you grow attached to has a happy ending), I always held out hope that Krieg and Maya could get that happy ending.
Instead we have Krieg left alone, while Maya got fridged cause of fucking dumbass Ava, who now has Maya's powers and leads the Crimson Raiders without earning either of those in the slightest, and while blaming everyone bit herself for what happened.
Krieg and Maya deserved so much better than what they got. I just wanted them to be happy together forever, but we can't have nice things it seems.
Here's to the first video game couple I shipped from day one, wishing things were better for them.
Oh, and screw you Ava. Still the worst character in all of Borderlands, and always will be.

the rest of Borderlands 2 characters where just average in terms of backstory and got their proper closure. Axton banked in their newly found fame to get various gigs, Salvador just kept fucking around and Kaige got hunt down even more than before, forcing her into hiding. Zer0 is just... still being the edgy mfer he always was.
But Krieg was by far the most complex to get closure on
