In real life the usable range is around 2 to 3 miles. The battery lasts 31 minutes maximum and at 15 miles per hour it takes 20 minutes to go 5 miles. That's not accounting for wind, climbing and decending and doing any photography or video time. So 10 minutes out, 10 minutes back with 10 minutes of reserve or loitering time. Trust me, I tried to reach an offshore navigation buoy that's 2.5 miles off the beach and I didn't get there (I was probably about 300 yards from it) and I made it back with 4 minutes left. It's pretty intense when you're a mile out over the ocean and the battery is at 20%. 2 miles away. That's about it.
This is the reason enough to love mini 2 with heart n soul. Thank u soooo much for making such video... Highly appreciated man and your commentary was super cool too! 👍
When I saw that hawk I got chills lol Luckily the mini doesn't seem to upset them much but larger drones they normally attack! Another good thing about the Mini 2. Great footage!

Congratulations for your amazing range test. Very nice test. It seems that this drone has intelligency and was impressive how after running out of battery he land in the middle of the garden without hitting any tree.
@@Matanumi it does but it doesn’t use those sensors to avoid obstacles it just senses where the ground is so it can slow down/abort landing if the ground isnnt suitable
Nice flight. I noticed that you didn’t use the compass in the corner of your map screen to help you keep your RC Controller pointed in the same direction as the drone. You might have had less interference. But either way still a nice flight I wish I had an area as flat and open as you were flying in.
I have had a thought on these range tests. Some don’t make it back because of battery. Well looking at the shape of the drone it occurred to me that the drone may actually more streamlined in reverse, and maybe it could go further, easier going backwards. Just as flying sideways must create the most drag. Perhaps a test for this may assist those drone pilots who seem doomed on the way back, maybe it could save the day. A test showing a range test in reverse vs forward may establish an important drone action to perform on returns.
Great range test. What drone is that ? Is it the dgi mini 4k ? Or dgi mini 2 se , shot in 4k ? Or the dgi mini 2, in 4k , shot mode ,? Or the dgi maverick mini 2, shot In 4k ??
Great flight and showcase of this drone. I’m about to get my first serious one and it’s between this and the Air 2S, however this footage is more than perfect enough and the big plus, aside from Mini 2’s price, is that the size doesn’t require registration. Just hoping DJI doesn’t release a Mini 3 too soon thereafter.
The Mini3 will probably get a front facing sensor, not much else of consequence to be honest with you. They will not upgrade the camera I don't think as it is already 4k and they don't want to cannibalize the Air2 sales. The significant upgrade to the Mini2 from the original Mavic Mini was the inclusion of Ocusync2.0 which made it a spectacular drone in my opinion. I rushed and bought the original Mavic Mini, it was horrible, no wind resistance and signal would get choppy at 300-400m in urban settings. So, back to the potential of the Mini3; If I am correct and its only the addition of a front facing sensor, just buy the Mini2 now. People think 'sensors' are important, they really are not. In order to get some range out of the drone one must fly it at altitude (50m+), what is there to hit up there that would make sensors useful?
I got a adrenaline rush watching this video...well done. Question: how did you find your drone, did you have enough battery power left to use "find my drone"?
Thank, it was very interesting! As I understood, after drone lost connection and landed, you checked exact home point on DJI Fly app, and found it this way, right?
No actually not, it wasn't very precise with the positioning. I didn't receive a signal either when I was close to the drone because the battery was already out. So I had to look around the area a little bit to find it.
Thats a great range test. I haven't been to far with mine, but not scared to do about anything with it. The mini 2 I probably the best drone out there for the money. I have a mavic air and I like it, but the mini 2 is definitely better. Glad you got it back.
Yeah, this is just occasionally, not doing this everyday. Better to be safe and fly within range. It's the best. I'm glad you prefer the Mini 2 thou, I do agree it is worth alot for the cost.
That was a serious range test, Kudos to you! I'm quite surprise that it was able to reach that far, the Drone range i think is limited to CE range(CE mark restriction) and would be shorter than 10km. The FCC variant has a stronger signal thus can do further distance. anyway what a great way to illustrate the range of this drone.
It was a mistake that I did it in someone's yard, yes. But setting the home point was not a mistake. If I would have not set the home point. The drone would have tried to go back to the last home point when I lost connection with the drone. I did not want that to happen, I wanted to have a safety measure.
Now do that in an urban area and you get maybe 1km at best :D what firmware version you were on at the time of recording, 01.04 is doing much worse now in terms of transmission
DJI, has created a perfect drone, the best of the best, they didn’t realize themselves that the Mini 2 would be as good. As it is. They put together the right technology and opened the secret combination that blew the socks off the users.DJI You threw a 7, far from snake eyes. DJI I know you are surprised to know that you figured out the right combination that created a drone that can complete with any drones out there. Even with the smaller lense it still speaks loud and produce breathtaking videos and pictures. I think you can communicate with the pilot verbally along with the weak signal, loosing connection with controller. Make suggestions on adjusting altitudes., to evade interference signals at lower altitudes. Onboard audio verbal company for the pilot. Mini 2 at high altitude reminds me of a albatross journey across the skies.Crow
Gorgeous with the light rays breaking through the clouds 😀 taking it seriously to the max! It answers our questions of what happens indeed, again though absolutely gorgeous video!
Wtf that is actually insane. I always thought that the 10km range is just the "best possible outcome" that looks good on paper, but does not really translate well into reality. But it can actually do it, amazing
I noticed at one point early on in your flight that your return to home altitude was 15m. Possibly a bit low considering there are wind generators in your area amongst other things. Also noticed it at 56 m later on.
Good notice and thank you for your consideration. Even if it shows 15m in some tiny moments, it is actually not 15m. When you lose signal with the drone it looks like it is set to another levels in both altitude, distance and so fourth. As soon as you get connection again, it will go back as it was before. Basically the drone saves the settings you have put in your phone/remote controller. Even thought your phone is showing something else while lost connection, it is not correct. The drone "knows" the settings you have set while you had connection. You can only change the settings while you are connected to the drone, otherwise it will save the recent settings and keep that in mind until you change it. Also very good to know! If you own a DJI Mini 2. Whenever you have set your Altitude in Return-To-Home, let's say 20 meters and you are flying at altitude of 120 meters. You lose signal or turn on RTH or your remote controller rans out of battery. Your drone will never lower to the set altitude then go to the home point. Actually it is the other way around, first home point then lower the altitude. If you are above the set altitude of the RTH in the settings, it will actually stay in the same altitude and fly to the RTH instantly. When the home point is reached, then it will lower the altitude. If you have an DJI Mini 2, you can actually try this out yourself if you want =) Keep safe and thanks for your comment 😊

Hey, unfortunately I don't know since this is a year ago and I have updated and used my drone since. That's weird, the drone should work perfectly within 2 km as long as there is no obstacles or buildings between the controller and the drone.
