    Thanks for sharing the video. I need to build one of these cabinets this weekend as a Christmas present for me :-) Great save on the split board - stronger after the repair. Nice technique to assemble the doors.

      It is pretty heavy. But it is what my friend wanted. It's not too bad. It's screwed to the side of his house in his covered deck.

    Hi thanks for the video very useful, I'm looking to take the idea and build one for LG 65UN71 4K tv very slim for a shared lounge area, any advise would be greatful thank you!

      Thank you! It has been a while since I made this, and I made it for a friend so I haven't actually use it. But, the one thing people seem to comment on is the weight. I used pressure treated wood, which is heavy, so you may consider using something else if that will be an issue. I have a little more information on my design on my site if you have not seen it.

    Over kill on the 2x6 boards

  • @danny302
    @danny302 3 роки тому +1

    nice build, but I couldn't understand why you trimmed the box as a unit as opposed to trimming the 2x6's individually on the table saw before assembly. That might be a little safer way. Either way nice job.

      Well, I have been meaning to go back and watch the video to answer this, but I haven't had a chance, so I'm sure I either was correcting a mistake or worried about the corners being perfect. Ill give you a better answer when I get a chance to watch it.

    • @JohnHamerProjects
      @JohnHamerProjects  3 роки тому

      I see, yeah, I expected the boards to be the same width, but after screwing them together, I realized they weren't. So, I was correcting a mistake.

    Hey John what size is the this tv cabinet? What type of wood are you using? This is a great looking Enclosure...

      @JohnHamerProjects  2 роки тому

      Hey Lawrence, the cabinet is made from pressure tested lumber. I have details on the size at the link below. This was made for a 55 inch TV.

    Does this really allow for use of an indoor TV, under a porch, outside?

    • @JohnHamerProjects
      @JohnHamerProjects  3 роки тому

      This cabinet does not protect against the weather. It is more for decoration and security. I don't know if the guy I made it for keeps his TV in it all the time or not. You would need to use your own judgment. An outdoor tv would be ideal.

    What's the material size you used . What size tv will fit inside the cabint

    • @JohnHamerProjects
      @JohnHamerProjects  2 роки тому

      It was built for a 50 inch tv, but the exact dimensions can be found at the link below. The biggest issue will be finding a wall bracket that is small enough to fit behind the tv and still let the doors shut.

    How did you mount it to the siding of a house? Did you just drill right into the siding?

    • @JohnHamerProjects
      @JohnHamerProjects  2 роки тому

      It was mounted on a porch with a roof and it was mounted to the posts that hold the roof up. I don't know how I would mount it to the side of a house.

    How would you recommend hanging this on a vinyl siding wall

    • @JohnHamerProjects
      @JohnHamerProjects  Рік тому

      I'm probably not the person to ask, but I would screw through the back of the case into studs with some lag bolts.

    Is this under a covered porch area, or exposed? How well does it keep the rain/water out?

    • @JohnHamerProjects
      @JohnHamerProjects  4 роки тому +1

      It is under a porch. I would not use this for an indoor tv in an uncovered area.

    Estimated weight of the cabinet?

    • @JohnHamerProjects
      @JohnHamerProjects  3 роки тому

      It's pretty heavy, like 70 or 80lbs. Pressure treated pine probably wouldn't be a good choice if you're worried about weight. The guy I made it for wanted to stain it to match his deck, so I made it out of the same type of wood.

    What kind of wood is that

    • @JohnHamerProjects
      @JohnHamerProjects  4 роки тому

      The frame is pressure treated 2x8's and the doors are made from 6' pine fence pickets. I'm going to make some drawings soon and put them on my website. I'll post a video when I do.
